You are as close to the Force as you can get! The opening scroll on Star Wars Weekends 2015 is rolling at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. All weekend long, there will be dozens of Star Wars characters appearing throughout the park, the “Legends of the Force” celebrity motorcade, the all-new “Star Wars: Rebels” show at Theater of the Stars, “Symphony in the Stars” fireworks and so much more!

And what’s this…? The Emperor is coming here?!

That’s right! Ian McDiarmid, the actor who portrayed Emperor Palpatine (aka the Sith Lord Darth Sidious) in the Star Wars films, has made his first hyperspace jump to our system as a celebrity guest for Weekend I of Star Wars Weekends. You’ll want to double your efforts to be here and see him, along with the other stars of the saga appearing this weekend. Here’s the complete list:

  • Event Host James Arnold Taylor: Obi-Wan Kenobi (Star Wars: The Clone Wars; Star Wars Rebels)
  • Ian McDiarmid: Senator/Emperor Palpatine (Star Wars: The Phantom Menace; Star Wars: Attack of the Clones; Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, Star Wars: Return of the Jedi)
  • Amy Allen: Aayla Secura (Star Wars: Attack of the Clones, Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith)
  • Tiya Sircar: Sabine Wren (Star Wars Rebels)
  • Ashley Eckstein: Ahsoka Tano (Star Wars: The Clone Wars; Star Wars Rebels)

Also new and not to be missed at Star Wars Weekends this year is Rebel Hangar: A Star Wars Lounge Experience and the Darth’s Mall complex on Streets of America, where you will find the droids (and T-shirts and other great merchandise) you’re looking for!

So who’s coming out this weekend? Let us know in the Comments section, and share the excitement on social media using the hashtag #SWW2015. If you can’t make it this weekend, Star Wars Weekends continues every Friday, Saturday and Sunday through June 14.

  • The event isn’t worth attending without the Hoopla. 🙁

  • We planned somewhat poorly (though saved some money) and are going to be there June 8-12 (Mon-Friday morning) – not the weekend. I was wondering which events and happenings continue through the week? I know the character dining is because we have a reservation and of course the Jedi Training Academy for my 5-year-old because that’s there all year long – but characters walking around? The parade? The fireworks? The Darth’s Mall and merchandise? Thanks!

  • The 501st filmed some stuff before the parade…any idea when it will be posted?

  • There are reports of the Boba Fett steins running out already. We aren’t able to come until weekends IV and V-will these be available again? Also the new glow cubes with specialty drinks look really fun! Hoping there is a big enough supply to last until I can get there:)

  • Why do you not have any womens cut Passholder t-shirts this year? VERY disappointing.

  • I enjoy Star Wars Weekends. How about adding Marvel Weekends? I know. Move along. Move along…

  • @ Spencer: It now says on the Star Wars Weekends section of the DHS website whether each celebrity is doing autographs or not. If they are not listed as participating in autograph sessions, they are not. For example, Ian McDiarmid is not doing autographs.

Click on “Read More” under each weekend under the Star Wars Weekends – Celebrities section.

  • The question is, who will and won’t be doing meet-and-greets? I was especially bummed to discover Mark Hamill wasn’t doing any last year.

  • Bring this to disneyland !!! HOW do we not have star wars weekends ?!

  • Unfortunately I am missing the opening Star Wars Weekend this year. 🙁 I love combining a visit for the first Star Wars Weekend with the last weekend of Epcot’s Flower and Garden.

Hoping I can make one of the Star Wars Weekends in early June!

  • Need to officially announce Star Wars Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios!

    • Kyle – This is not the post you’re looking for. Move along. Move along…

  • I’m seeing someone posted the guide map online, and it mentions limited edition magic bands with, what appears to be, Mickey and Donald duck on them.

My understanding is that the Limited Edition magic bands have audio queues on them. Do these bands play audio when tapped to the FastPass terminals? What sounds? And are the sounds limited to Disney’s Hollywood Studios like last years were, or do they work more uniformly across the parks?

    • James – I know that some of the limited edition MagicBands have produced special lights and sounds at the touch points. What these might do is a surprise my friends at Disney Parks Merchandise are keeping shrouded in mystery.
