One week after the launch of the Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration in Anaheim, Mickey Mouse and the “Happiest Balloon on Earth” arrived in Sacramento to celebrate as the California State Senate and Assembly proclaimed today – June 1, 2015 – as “Disneyland Day!”

Disneyland has been part of the fabric of California for six decades, and marking this special milestone by bringing the magic of Disney to the State Capitol makes it all the more momentous. I’m told seeing the “Happiest Balloon on Earth” float over the Capitol lawn was pretty incredible!

Disneyland Resort’s visit to Sacramento went beyond the Capitol and into the community with a visit to UC Davis Medical Center, where Mickey Mouse and Disney Ambassador Allie Kawamoto visited young patients. It also included a stop in West Sacramento, where 500 volunteers from Disney, KaBOOM! and the city of West Sacramento built Disney’s largest KaBOOM! playground ever. Following the build, Disneyland Resort made surprise donations totaling $10,000 to Club West Teen Center and Yolo County Children’s Alliance.

“Disneyland Day” festivities concluded with a special screening of Disney “Tomorrowland” for sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students who attend an after-school program at Club West Teen Center in Sacramento.

  • My husband seen Mickey at the Capitol and took a picture with him!

  • This is by far the greatest thing since the cheese corns dogs came back to corn dog castle!

I am a HUGE Disney fan, I was supper bummed I could not make it to Disney for my birthday yesterday ( I have gone every year). Low and behold they go and make June 1st (my birthday) Disney Day!!!

  • It’s great to see the build up in West Sac on Sunday, even though I had to leave early before the build up finished. I really enjoyed how Disneyland is not only giving back to the Southern California communities, but also to the Northern California communities, especially at the State Capitol.

  • I was in the Assembly gallery in the Capitol in Sacramento for the vote. The assemblyman spoke of the economic benefit Disneyland has been to the State of California and the jobs it has created. We went as Disney fans to see the balloon but am glad I got to experience the vote.

  • It’s posts like these that actually make you proud to be a fan of something that, for all it’s merit and fiscal success, still takes the effort to reach beyond itself and support the community. Well done, Disneyland. See you in a week.

  • Looks like Mickey had his ears trimmed to pose with the hot air balloon in the background!

  • Congratulations!
