As we look forward to the reopening of Walt Disney World Resort theme parks in July, we’re excited to share a few details about the attractions and entertainment guests will be able to experience when they return. Though these may look a little different than in the past, there will be plenty of magic for everyone to enjoy when Magic Kingdom Park and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park open on July 11, and EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios open on July 15.

Young guests on Prince Charming Regal Carrousel at Magic Kingdom Park

Most attractions will be available at each park – for example, live your adventure at Disney’s Hollywood Studios with attractions like Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. At Magic Kingdom Park, classics such as Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Space Mountain and Pirates of the Caribbean are waiting to welcome guests with thrilling adventures for the whole family. Time travelers, take note that the iconic Spaceship Earth attraction at EPCOT will also continue to be available in its current state while we pause on its planned refurbishment, along with other favorite attractions like Soarin’ Around the World, Frozen Ever After and Test Track presented by Chevrolet. At Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, the magic of nature awaits with Kilimanjaro Safaris, Expedition Everest – Legend of the Forbidden Mountain and Avatar Flight of Passage.

If you’re hoping to see some familiar friends or take in the tunes of treasured performers, you’re in luck! Just as you may have seen recently at Disney Springs, our characters will appear in new and different ways that bring a smile to your face while also being mindful of physical distancing. From special cavalcades down the Magic Kingdom Park parade route and friends sailing the waterways of Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, to processions along the World Showcase promenade at EPCOT and motorcades on Disney’s Hollywood Studios’ Hollywood Boulevard, each area will come to life throughout the day. You never know when a party of your pals may come by, so be prepared for plenty of surprises!

For example, after rocketing through space in Tomorrowland you might see that famous Space Ranger, Buzz Lightyear; or discover a captive Captain Jack Sparrow as you traverse the Castillo del Morro on your way to Pirates of the Caribbean. You could cross paths with Queen Anna and Elsa as they venture “into the unknown” on a journey around World Showcase at EPCOT or spy members of the Resistance hiding out from the First Order throughout Black Spire Outpost on the planet Batuu.

Looking beyond our beloved characters, several musical groups will also return. You can look forward to seeing Main Street Philharmonic at Magic Kingdom Park, plus the Mariachi Cobre and everyone’s favorite funky drumming crew the JAMMitors at EPCOT, just to name a few.

  • I understand it is a very trying time, have been on the phone hours, and get no where, Disney is trying to suit everyone and sometimes big steps forward are hard to do. My problem if you have an dvc or passhopper already in the new system, we should not yo wait to buy tickets for people it the end of summer to get them in the system to come, trying to get 90 year old mom her last chance to visit and I am very frustrating.

  • When will military members be able to purchase tickets again? Despite having resort reservations for November for over a year and January already, as well as a lot of money sunk in to runDisney, I’m unable to purchase tickets or make Park reservations. Why can’t we have an equal shot at park reservations, when those who made reservations yesterday were already able to do so?

  • We are all annual pass holders and yesterday I could only book 3 days even though we are booked for 12 days on site in December. Tried to get through all afternoon and evening but just kept getting busy signals and all circuits busy message. Tried to book park reservations this morning and was able to do the length of stay in December, February and April. My mother spent a total of 4 hours on hold and still having problems with my parents passes not being able to book park passes. She will try tech services again in the morning. My brother encounter another obstacle, he and my sister in law are annual pass holders but the kids are not and they have resort reservations only in December and can not purchase tickets for the kids. Tomorrow 6/24 you can purchase packages for 2021 but NOT for their 2020 reservations!!! Crazy! He spent 2.5 hours on hold for the cast member to relay that information and she had no idea when they can purchase park tickets for their December reservations. By the time they can purchase tickets they probably will not be able to get park reservations! Very frustrating and makes no sense!

  • I was able to reserve multiple days for myself and two kids, but for some reason they won’t let me book my husband. We all have annual passes, and are DVC. We have Dvc reservations in October, December, January. I could only book him for 2 of our four days in October and nothing else. When I select on his name, the parks are grayed out, with the message that one or more parks are not available for Disney park pass. The thing is, they are available, and I can book other people who are staying with us, but just not him. It is a bizarre glitch. I tried to call Disney travel company 1- 800 number yesterday. The first time I was on 2 1/2 hours listening to hold music before it hung up on me. In the evening, I was on for over three hours before it turned 11 o’clock Eastern and I hung up. This morning I was on for another 2 1/2 hours starting at 7 AM Eastern. Eternal hold music. None of the other phone numbers work, none of the chats are active, and none of my emails have been returned. Not sure what you do when you have a glitch.

  • Hi Melissa,

I am going on Day 2 and the website still does not allow me to select in the Park Pass. I still can not get through on the phone or on Live Chat. We got through on the Live Chat yesterday and asked can a CM call us back to help but no one called. We are beyond frustrated in having to deal with this on the second day but we will continue.

With that said, I am glad you were able to complete your selection yesterday. Enjoy your trip and have a magical time.

  • Can’t wait to come back to WDW! The Disney Park Reservation system seems to be up and functional this morning – which is great news. We were able to reserve dates/parks for our trip in September 2020 as well as our trip in April 2021. Is it too early to pack????

  • Hi Bryon, I had the same issues. Started since 8am. I was on with a Cast member and they were not allowed to book for us. It kept timing me out. I was beyond frustrated. But at 4p I was able to do it. Hopefully you didn’t give up and was able to get on.

  • Hi all! Curious if any parents have come across face masks thus far this summer that their kiddos find bearable while being outside? With summer heat upon us, I’m hoping for some recommendations from parents in the know that I can snag for my nephew! Thanks so much in advance!

  • We’ll be at BLT July 3-8. What will there be for us to do other than go to DS to eat and go to the pool?

  • I have been trying to get Park Passes since 7am and there issues on their website. I have tried Chat and called and neither were able to help. Who else have been having the same issues?

  • I’m so glad to be returning in September. I’m bringing a friend for her FIRST EVER Disney Park visit. We had this all plannedand had bought MNSSHP tickets prior to THE COVID shutdown. I wish she we’re going to have the full experience with parades, fireworks, etc. But more than that I wish Animal kingdom wasn’t going to close so early in the evening. That park is most beautiful at night. In my opinion it’s breathtaking. Watching the Tree of life in the evening, walking the walkways with all the lush vegetation with the soft flow of the lanterns. I absolutely love Animal Kingdom after dark.

  • We are just BUSTING at the seams with excitement! We can hardly wait for September at this point. Our original vacation for early May had to be rebooked and we are so glad we didn’t pause and just worked some dates our family was able to go with and so far fingers crossed 🤞 and wishing on Pixie Dust 🌟 all will go smoothly from here on out!

  • Looking forward to being back in Walt Disney World next month for our family reunion at Bay Lake Tower!

  • I really hope that when I come visit The Magic Kingdom, Splash Mountain will remain the same. I love it so much!! Mostly because it reminds me of Walt Disney’s love of stories and sharing them to all. From The Brothers Grimm, Hans Christian Andersen, and Uncle Remus!!!

  • Very glad to hear the Jammitors will be back!

(When do we get the return of Future Corps??? 🙂 )

  • Can’t wait to come back safely to Disney World! The cavalcade of characters sounds like a great way to be able to see the characters with some social distancing magic happening. So excited to see how that is handled in person.

Glad to see so many great rides like Haunted Mansion, Splash Mountain, Test Track, Rise of the Resistance, Avatar and more planned to be open up right away going to be so much fun to go on those rides!

My self I personally can’t wait to see Black Spire Outpost and hopefully be able to go to Savi Workshop! Been waiting what feels like years to be able to build a lightsaber! Soo excited to be able to build one and take it around the park!

Can’t wait to go I am so hoping the magic is back when I get there in September!

  • Hi Laurel! Thanks for sharing! Honestly reading this article made me as happy as simply walking down Mainstreet USA. You really have a gift for sharing the magic through words, and I can’t wait for guests to be able to spot their favorite characters in new places. I’m interested in pursuing a career in communications with Disney, and I’d love to learn more from you!

  • Is Haunted Mansion currently expected to open in phase 1 of reopening? It’s my favorite and would be a deciding factor for me.

  • Characters and performers and shows are what make the Disney experience for me. I’m happy to have as many as possible out in the parks as soon as possible!
