Light-Painting Video Marks Fourth of July Magic at Walt Disney World Resort

posted on July 3rd, 2015 by Jennifer Fickley-Baker, Social Media Manager

Last year, Thomas Smith shared an amazing series of light-painting images that our friends in Disney’s Yellow Shoes Department, Matt Stewart and Paul Chase, created using just light pens and a camera. This year, the guys are back with more Fourth of July fun – this time taking their skills to the next level by creating this light-painting video that stars Mickey Mouse.

A lot of amazing work went into creating this – including Matt freehanding designs like the flag and fireworks in mid-air, and Paul snapping more than 200 photos.

Think this is cool? Check out some of their past light-painting contributions in the list below.

#DisneyKids: Creating Independence Day Memories at Walt Disney World Resort

posted on July 3rd, 2015 by Jamie Langdon, Social Media Manager

Independence Day is a wonderful holiday for families to spend time together and celebrate our nation’s birthday. Fireworks are almost synonymous with July 4, and if you’re planning to bring your kids to the parks for the holiday, you can see some amazing fireworks displays in addition to lots of other patriotic entertainment that will have your little ones saying, “oooh ahhh!”

Magic Kingdom Celebrates a Star-Spangled July Fourth

Magic Kingdom Park: Young and old will marvel at the specially-themed fireworks spectacular over Cinderella Castle “Disney’s Celebrate America! A Fourth of July Concert in the Sky,” which will be presented two nights in a row at 9 p.m. on July 3 and 4.

Epcot: Snap a family photo with Chip and Dale in their patriotic attire outside of The American Adventure. Then be sure to check out the Voices of Liberty performing a special set list of great American songs at the America Gardens Theater at 12:30 p.m., 1:45 p.m., and 3 p.m. Schedule nap time during the day so that the littles ones can end the day with “IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth” at 10 p.m., which features an addition of a heart-pounding, all-American grand finale.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios: It’s a family-friendly party over at the “Coolest Summer Ever” Dance Party, which leads up to a “Rockin’ 4th of July Celebration.” The DJ kicks the soiree off at 5:45 p.m., followed by an exciting pyrotechnic, rock ‘n’ roll road trip across America in the sky over Hollywood Studios at 10:15 p.m.

Tip: For long days in the parks, be sure to pack snacks and sunscreen to keep little ones happy and comfy during the day, and pj’s for the evening so they can fall asleep when the fireworks end. Don’t worry if you forget something — the Baby Care Centers at every park are fully stocked. Have fun!

Video Rewind: Celebrating America at the Disneyland Resort

posted on July 3rd, 2015 by Erin Glover, Social Media Director, Disneyland Resort

The Fourth of July is just a day away! From our daily flag retreat ceremony to special Independence Day entertainment, the Disneyland Resort has a variety of traditions that salute America’s heritage. In celebration of our nation’s birthday, let’s take a look back at three videos showcasing how we have paid tribute to America here at the Disneyland Resort.

In 2011, we showed you how the classic attraction, “Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln,” employs advanced Audio-Animatronic technology to honor one of our most revered presidents.

During the summer of 2012, the Voices of Liberty a cappella group performed traditional American songs at the Main Street Opera House.

This Independence Day, “Disneyland Forever,” the all-new fireworks spectacular, will be followed by a patriotic, pyrotechnic grand finale to celebrate America’s birthday. Before you enjoy that show, take a look back at last year’s “Disney’s Celebrate America! A Fourth of July Concert in the Sky.”

Will you be celebrating Independence Day at the Disneyland Resort? Check out Shawn’s post for this year’s special entertainment!

In honor of our country’s Independence Day one of our designers, Leo Cardoso, created a fun new wall paper. Leo was inspired by the nostalgia of classic Disney. In this design he features two things as patriotic as apple pie – our pal Mickey Mouse and the American flag.

Meet Aulani’s ‘Ohana: Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa Ambassador

posted on July 2nd, 2015 by Tyler Slater, Public Relations Manager, Disney Destinations

“Ohana means family.”

The magic of a vacation to Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa, comes to life thanks to the rich Hawaiian culture, unforgettable details and of course, our cast members. Today, I’m delighted to start a series on the Disney Parks Blog that features one of those key ingredients: our cast members. In fact, Walt Disney once said: “You can dream, create, design and build the most wonderful place in the world … but it requires people to make that dream a reality.”
