Disney Cruise Line Sneak Peek: Port Adventures in Venice

posted on September 27th, 2012 by Arnaldo Zanonato, Port Adventures Manager

Disney Cruise fans, I’ve got some really exciting stuff to share with you today! I just got back from a trip to Europe. The purpose? To plan Port Adventures for the Disney Cruise Line summer Mediterranean cruise season! (Yes, I love my job!)

New Port Adventures in Venice Coming Soon for Disney Cruise Line Guests

At each destination, we’re partnering with tour operators to create one-of-a-kind excursions geared towards families and exclusive to Disney Cruise Line. For example, Venice has a wealth of family experiences – but we’re taking them to a whole new level! In this video, you’ll see some of the adventures we’re developing in Venice – while they’re still in the “work-in-progress” state.

The one I’m most excited about is the Disney-exclusive Evening Doge’s Palace Tour & Character Experience where families will be treated to two very rare treats – a private, after-hours tour of Doge’s Palace and a royal reception with Disney princesses on the Palace’s loggia (balcony overlooking St. Mark’s Square).

Another Disney-exclusive excursion I’m sure will be an instant favorite is our Gondolier For A Day Experience. There is no greater symbol of the city of Venice than that of a gondolier navigating his gondola down the city’s world-famous canals. During this Port Adventure, guests 16 and older will be able to try their hand at piloting a gondola on the city’s lagoon!

New Port Adventures in Venice Coming Soon for Disney Cruise Line Guests

I hope you enjoyed this sneak peek at Port Adventures in Venice. Stay tuned for my next post about the family-fun adventures we’re planning in Turkey!

Three Ways to Splash in the Sun on a Disney Cruise from Texas

posted on August 3rd, 2012 by Arnaldo Zanonato, Port Adventures Manager

Starting in September, the Disney Magic will sail 7-night Western Caribbean cruises out of Galveston, Texas. During those voyages, the ship will call on the popular destinations of Grand Cayman, Costa Maya and Cozumel, Mexico.

Today, I want to tell you about three Port Adventures that highlight one of the main reasons why guests sail on Caribbean cruises: the beautiful waters and sunshine!

“Stingray

Grand Cayman – Stingray City Reef Sail & Snorkel – By far the most popular attraction in Grand Cayman, one of the few places in the world where you can swim and interact with wild stingrays in a sandbar in the middle of the ocean – quite a sight!

“Dolphin

Costa Maya – Dolphin Encounter – A popular choice amongst families and guaranteed to put a smile on everyone’s face. Learning about these friendly mammals may be the key to help protecting them!

“12-Metre

Cozumel – 12-Metre Regatta – Sail aboard an America’s Cup Yacht and race in the warm blue waters surrounding Cozumel.

These are just a few of the many options to soak up the sun and splash in Caribbean waters. Stay tuned for my next Disney Parks Blog post about Port Adventures offered on cruises sailing out of Galveston. And don’t forget, when the ship’s in port, venture ashore!

When the Disney Wonder sails to Hawai’i in October for a second time this year, guests will have plenty of fun ways to experience the breathtaking beauty of the islands.
The Disney Wonder in Hawai'i

We developed tons of fantastic Port Adventures so that Disney cruisers can get the most from this tropical paradise vacation. Here are a few of my favorites:

Kualoa Ali‘i (Royal) Experience (Honolulu, Oahu) – Explore Kualoa Ranch, the site of many feature movies and TV shows such as “Jurassic Park” and “Lost,” and follow it up with a private picnic-style lunch. It’s the perfect match of breathtaking vistas and dramatic cliffs paired with the delicious flavors of the islands!

Disney Cruise Line Exclusive Port Adventures in Atlantic Canada

posted on July 27th, 2012 by Arnaldo Zanonato, Port Adventures Manager

My favorite Disney Cruise Line Port Adventures are always the ones we design exclusively for our guests. I love the way we’re able to extend the art of Disney’s storytelling into the ports we visit, and that is especially true in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, Canada.

Check out this video to see two of the charming Port Adventures we developed in Atlantic Canada just for Disney cruisers.

Whether you choose to have tea with Alice in Wonderland, play solider for a day at the historical Citadel or join another exciting Disney Cruise Line Port Adventure, remember…when the ship’s in port, venture ashore!

Exploring Canada’s Bay of Fundy on a Disney Cruise

posted on July 20th, 2012 by Arnaldo Zanonato, Port Adventures Manager

Set between Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, shore excursions to the Bay of Fundy are a must on a Disney Cruise Line cruise to Atlantic Canada.

In this video, see the beauty of the Bay of Fundy and hear from a local guide about what you can do to enjoy all it has to offer.

Check out some of my personal recommendations for Port Adventures that allow you to experience the Bay of Fundy fully…

Bay of Fundy Whale & Wildlife Watching – Set sail on the Bay of Fundy to watch for whales like Humpbacks, the huge Finback and smaller Minke whales. You’ll also sail among islands and passages where tidal currents are strong to watch for eagles, seabirds, seals and porpoise.

Hopewell Rocks Tidal Discovery – Travel along the picturesque Fundy Coastal Drive to Hopewell Rocks, a unique coastal formation where you can experience the world’s highest tides that have carved the famous flowerpot rocks.

Ride the Rapids – On this exciting high-speed jet boat ride, you’ll get up close to one of the world’s most unique phenomena, the Reversing Falls Rapids, caused by the strong harbor currents reversing every six hours.

Adventures on the Bay of Fundy are not to be missed, so when the ship’s in port, venture ashore!

Excitement has been brewing since Disney Cruise Line announced Pixar-inspired California Coastal cruises sailing this fall. Aboard the Disney Wonder, Pixar characters like Woody, Jessie and Buzz Lightyear will visit with guests, and artists and filmmakers from Pixar Animation Studios will make special presentations, including sneak peeks of future Pixar films.

What’s more, special Port Adventures will allow you to see the best of California, and as a wine lover, one I am particularly excited about is the excursion out of San Francisco to the Lasseter Family Winery in Sonoma Valley.

Guests will explore the family’s private vineyard, owned by Nancy and John Lasseter (Chief Creative Officer of Walt Disney Animation and Pixar Animation Studios), and sample some of the unique red wine blends offered under the Lasseter label. posted on July 13th, 2012 by Arnaldo Zanonato, Port Adventures Manager

In this video you’ll hear more about that maritime charm from locals and find out where you can go in the seaside provinces of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick to experience it.

If you’re planning a Disney cruise to Canada this summer, here are a few Port Adventures I recommend to enjoy first-hand the quaint fishing villages, seafaring history and mouth-watering fresh seafood…

Peggy’s Cove, Lobster Lunch & Maple – Visit Peggy’s Cove, a famous fishing village known worldwide as having one of the most photographed lighthouses. Here you’ll learn about the lobster fisheries and enjoy a delicious lobster lunch overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.

Learn the Ropes Featuring Exclusive Youth Activity & Hop On Hop Off – Explore the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, where children can take part in an exclusive activity accompanied by Disney Cruise Line Youth Counselors, allowing parents some free time to explore. Next, re-group and explore the heritage of Halifax at leisure aboard a Hop On Hop Off double-decker bus.

St. Martins & the Bay of Fundy – Travel to the picturesque fishing village of St. Martins on the shores of the Bay of Fundy with its famous sea-carved caves, twin covered bridges, delicious seafood chowder and old-fashioned hospitality.
