A Peek at This Year’s First Halloween on the High Seas Cruise

posted on September 8th, 2015 by Darren McBurney, Cruise Director, Disney Cruise Line

Ready, set, boo!

We’re off on our very first Halloween cruise of the season! It’s day four of Halloween on the High Seas aboard the Disney Fantasy, and it’s no surprise cruisers are having a wickedly good time. It’s always fun to see the creative outfits guests of all ages wear throughout the voyage, especially at yesterday’s costume parties.

In the afternoon, families joined Disney friends at Mickey’s Mouse-querade Party for dancing, and, of course, lots of candy. Then later that night, adults had their own fun at a costume party just for them. As always, it was highly entertaining and a great way to end the night!

On the first night of the cruise, we kicked off the fun with an interactive movie experience in the Walt Disney Theatre, A Nightmare Before Christmas—Sing and Scream, inspired by Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas. Cruisers watched this classic holiday film like never before with 3-D and 4-D effects. A special sing-along was even part of the action. Plus, at the end of the movie, families were treated to a surprise meet-and-greet with Jack Skellington and Sally.

We’re only halfway through this cruise, so there’s a lot more fun to come! Halloween on the High Seas began yesterday on the Disney Dream and starts early October on the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder. To see more of the excitement that will take place on all of our Halloween voyages, check out Jonathan’s post, Top Five: Halloween on the High Seas with Disney Cruise Line. We hope to see you onboard!

Disney Cruise Line Brings Guests from Texas to Walt Disney World Resort

posted on January 23rd, 2013 by Darren McBurney, Cruise Director, Disney Cruise Line

Hello, I’m Cruise Director Darren, writing to you from onboard the Disney Magic. I am brand new to the Disney Parks Blog, but not to Disney! In fact, this month I will celebrate my 15-year anniversary with the company. I am proud to say that I was part of Disney Cruise Line’s opening team and the launch of the Disney Magic in 1998.

Most of my years with Disney Cruise Line were spent sailing out of the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder’s first home port, Port Canaveral, Florida. But with the expansion of the fleet, I’ve had the opportunity to sail from several new home ports the last few years, including Los Angeles, New York City and Barcelona, Spain.

Currently I am sailing out of one of Disney Cruise Line’s newest home ports, Galveston, Texas. This 8-night Bahamas voyage is particularly exciting because it is the first of six special cruises that take guests from the Lonestar State to Walt Disney World Resort!

Yesterday, guests eagerly debarked in Port Canaveral, Florida, where they were whisked off to the resort with a Walt Disney World Park Hopper ticket in hand. And with a late evening “all aboard” time, guests even had the opportunity to experience the famous evening fireworks display over the parks.

On Monday, we spent the day at Castaway Cay, marking the first time many guests had ever set foot on Disney’s private island. Visiting this tropical paradise is truly an indescribable experience, and if you haven’t been there yet, take my word for it, it’s a must for your bucket list!

Needless to say, this has been one magical week. And we still have one more destination: Key West! As we near the end of the voyage, I must tell you, this cruise has been one of the many highlights of my 15-year career with Disney because of the joy I’ve seen in the eyes of so many guests. Can you recall how you felt the first time you visited a Disney park or Castaway Cay?
