As you can tell, the excitement at the Disneyland Resort over the release of “Blank – A Vinylmation Love Story” is building! Just a few nights ago, several of my friends and colleagues had the chance to hit the premiere on The Walt Disney Studios lot and to meet several of the stop-motion, animated short filmmakers, designers, composer and artists.

ARM_7730

What could be more exciting? What if I were to tell you that some of those same filmmakers will be appearing here at the Disneyland Resort?

So let me tie up all of the event details in a nice little ‘bow.’ Yes, I went there (insert laugh here). On Friday, Feb. 14, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., D-Street in the Downtown Disney District will host a special release and signing of “Blank – A Vinylmation Love Story” merchandise with the following:

  • Mike Ambs (Director, Cinematographer)
  • Paul Foyder (Director, Editor, Sound Designer)
  • Alfred Montejano (Composer)
  • Gino Roy (Director, Production Designer)
  • Whitfield Scheidegger (Director, Cinematographer)
  • Greg Shewchuk (Director, Writer, Co-Producer)

Check out Steven Miller’s post from earlier today to find out what merchandise will be offered and for a glimpse at the product and related events taking place at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at the Walt Disney World Resort. If you are attending one of their screenings, you’ll find the merchandise available adjacent to the Premiere Theatre.

You can see more about “Blank – A Vinylmation Love Story” at www.Disney.com/Blank and remember to use the hashtag #BlankAndBow on any of your social networks.

Will you be joining us for this special release this Valentine’s Day?

Mechanical Kingdoms ~ Steam-Driven Visions of a Victorian Future Art to Debut at Disney Parks

posted on January 29th, 2014 by Michelle Harker, Manager, Merchandise Marketing & Communications, Disneyland Resort

Steampunk and Disney fans alike, this one’s for you! On February 22, The Disney Gallery at Disneyland park will unveil a new exhibit titled Mechanical Kingdoms ~ Steam-Driven Visions of a Victorian Future.

Steampunk, a subgenre of science fiction loosely built around retro-futuristic visions of a steam-powered society, has been gaining (pardon the pun) steam over the past several years. The movement, which is expressed culturally and stylistically in everything from technology and design to music and fashion, was dubbed steampunk in the late 1980s. Though certainly not part of the steampunk “wave” (at least not consciously), Walt Disney Imagineers have been creating their own visions and versions of retro-futuristic technologies since well before that time, incorporating them into Disney Parks and attractions around the world.

SPM1109721

Mechanical Kingdoms ~ Steam-Driven Visions of a Victorian Future features conceptual designs and ideas for an array of inventive vehicles, machines and gadgets. The collection also shares some of the same inspirations as steampunk – most prominently a fascination with the extravagantly inventive visions of tomorrow expressed by such Victorian futurists as Jules Verne and H.G. Wells. So don your petticoats and bustles or your suits and old military storm coats, pull on your brass goggles and get ready for an adventure that takes us forward into the past, as seen through the eyes of Disney artists and designers.

Here’s one piece that was actually done in collaboration with several of the artists, and for me, kind of tells the story of Steampunk and what you can expect to see.

SPM1109722

Of course, it was hard to pick one piece of art to show you, so I convinced the team to let me show you at least one piece from each artist. Take a look!

If you are a fan of Steampunk then mark your calendar now, because as part of the Steampunk launch, we will host artist signings at Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort.

Disneyland Resort:
Meet artists Dave Avanzino, Jim Crouch, Jeremy Fulton, Brian Kesinger, Noah, Mark Page, Michael Peraza and Javier Soto from 9 – 11 a.m. at Disneyana.

Walt Disney World Resort:
Disney Design Group artists, Costa Alavezos, Alex Maher and Mike Sullivan will appear from 2-5p.m. at Art of Disney in Downtown Disney Marketplace.

For event information and to see more images being released as part of the events, visit the event section of www.DisneyParksMerchandise.com.

Hear Ye! Hear Ye! February’s Black Forest Gourmet Apple is Fit for the Kingdom at Disneyland Resort!

posted on January 27th, 2014 by Michelle Harker, Manager, Merchandise Marketing & Communications, Disneyland Resort

Most fairy tales that we’re familiar with have far off kingdoms, royal families and, in the far off corner, some type of black forest that strikes fear in the hearts of the villagers everywhere. Rest assured there is nothing to fear with what I am about to show you. For the month of February, our Disneyland Resort Candy Makers have whipped up something fit for a royal family – a Black Forest apple. Even just at the site of it, without even tasting it, there wasn’t an ounce of doubt in my mind that it was the perfect addition to the gourmet apples series that you have come to know and love.

ALD837198

Imagine taking the essential flavors of a black forest cake and re-imagining it onto a caramel apple. Should I go on? The tart green apple is covered in creamy caramel, lost in a forest of dark chocolate and roasted almonds and adorned with sweet Maraschino cherries. How do you top that? Well I asked that same question, and of course, their answer was… ‘easy.’ ‘To top it off, this decadent confection is drizzled in sweet milk chocolate and crowned with additional cherries.’ Say it with me now… Yum!

Will you try this enchanting new gourmet apple? Look for it beginning February 1 at Candy Palace on Main Street, U.S.A., in Disneyland park; Trolley Treats on Buena Vista Street in Disney California Adventure park; and Marceline’s Confectionery in the Downtown Disney District!

2014 Merchandise Debuts at Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa

posted on January 22nd, 2014 by Michelle Harker, Manager, Merchandise Marketing & Communications, Disneyland Resort

Who doesn’t love the idea of a tropical getaway? So any time that I can share details about what’s happening in the world of merchandise at Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa – I’m in. Let’s be honest, I feel like I’m already there!

If you are looking to commemorate your stay at the resort, consider our 2014 Program which is available at Kālepa’s and features Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, Stitch, Chip n’ Dale and Duffy the Disney Bear. You will find elements of the art in some form or fashion on vast array of merchandise including tees for kids and adults, a mug, frame, magnet, keychain, ornament, jumbo pencil, pen and D-Tech phone case. Here’s your first look!

Aulani-2014-Logo

Vacation is a time to get away, so I encourage you to embrace your aloha Disney Side while you’re at Aulani with one of our four new tees.

Aulani T-shirts

Now, one thing that I hope you have planned during your stay is a trip to Laniwai Spa. I actually haven’t been myself, but I am looking forward to the opportunity of experiencing the massages and skin care treatments they offer. What I have been lucky enough to try is some of the amazing product that is used in many of the exquisite treatments. One of these great product offerings is the Laniwai collection, a luxurious skin care line, embodying the roots of Hawai‘i while providing natural and botanical benefits.

Aulani-Laniwai-Product

I was a bit curious about what made it so special, so I inquired with my friend and merchandiser, Emilio Martinez, who had this to share: “The Laniwai collection commits to providing luxurious natural products made from organic ingredients, from the most serene tropical wonders that Hawai‘i has to offer. If you choose the body polish, body cream or body wash, you will find that it provides the perfect combination of exfoliation, nourishment and hydration; giving you the relaxed and natural glow one seeks.” So if you long to re-live your stay at Aulani or perhaps an amazing spa treatment at Laniwai, take the Laniwai collection home with you, and recapture the natural beauty Hawai‘i has to offer.
