Add Some Local Flavor to Your Stay at Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa

posted on March 18th, 2015 by Michelle Harker, Manager, Merchandise Marketing & Communications, Disneyland Resort

If you are looking for tasty confections to delight your taste buds while on vacation at Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa, or you wish to treat yourself or your friends and family back home, I know exactly what you’ve been looking for. The packaging for some of you, might be instantly recognizable, for others, I’m talking about Big Island Candies! That pretty much says it all but for those of you who have never tried one of these delectable creations, here’s a little bit of history.

Big Island Candies has created mouthwatering treats at their chocolate factory and headquarters in Hilo on the Big Island of Hawai’i, since 1977. There are three words that come to mind whenever I think about them: innovative, distinctive and – did I mention? – delicious! One of their most renowned cookies is the Macadamia Nut Shortbread; however, when you visit Aulani, you’ll find more than just that.

Big Island Candies actually created a special formulation in a very unique shape that can only be found and are only available at Aulani. Fan favorites include Classic Shortbread (no nuts), the ever-popular Chocolate Dipped Shortbread, Macadamia Nut, Chocolate Macadamia Nut (not dipped) and even Guava Macadamia Nut. Take a look!

Something else that’s great to keep in mind, especially if you are traveling or off to see the sites for the day, are the grab-and-go boxes. These specially created smaller round cookies are the perfect snack size and come in Macadamia Nut Shortbread, Classic Shortbread (no nuts), Guava Macadamia Nut Shortbread and Chocolate Macadamia Nut Shortbread (not dipped).

I couldn’t stop there. So I asked my dear friends at Aulani what else our guests could expect to find. Here’s what they had to say.

“The newest addition to the line,” said Eldon Delos Santos, “is the Macadamia Honey Chocolates, exclusively in milk and dark chocolate.” What makes it so special? “The honey used in this particular confection comes from the honey bees that pollinate the macadamia nut tree fields on the Big Island during the winter blooming season. The result is a slightly nutty flavored amber honey that adds a sweet and distinct aroma and flavor to the overall concoction.”

weuio654321

I don’t know about you, but I’m hungry and definitely craving these tantalizing treats. So the next time you visit Aulani, make a beeline for Kalepa’s Store and be sure to pick up a box, or two, or maybe more. I guarantee you’ll be hooked!

Cinderella Coach is a Magical Treat at Disney Parks

posted on March 16th, 2015 by Michelle Harker, Manager, Merchandise Marketing & Communications, Disneyland Resort

Who’s seen Disney’s “Cinderella,” now in theaters? If you haven’t yet, move it to the top of your list! My fellow Disney Parks Blog author, Steven Miller, recently shared some of the exciting new “Cinderella” merchandise headed your way, but i have a special treat for you … actually I have two!

Debuting this month at the Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort is a Cinderella Coach inspired apple. It’s safe to say that candy makers got a little ‘carried away’ with this concoction. The apple has been dipped in caramel as well as edible shimmering white chocolate and comes complete with carriage-looking wheels. What are they made of? I guess you’ll have to try one to see!

Another fun way to celebrate the film’s release is with our Cinderella Coach krispy treat, sure to be a fan favorite for any movie-goer.

Here’s a list of locations where you can find them!

New Indiana Jones Merchandise Discovered at Disney Parks

posted on March 12th, 2015 by Michelle Harker, Manager, Merchandise Marketing & Communications, Disneyland Resort

Is it visions of the future, eternal youth or earthly riches that you seek? One of our excavation crew members just returned from the deep jungles of Adventureland at Disneyland park … just wait until you see what they uncovered!

indind836991

As you can see, artifacts range from precious metals (pins), leather (hats and whips) and cotton (T-shirts and fleece), along with other ancient remains (mug). Are you brave enough to battle snakes, spiders and anything else that crosses your path? If so, head due west towards the Indiana Jones Trading Outpost to see for yourselves. Special Tip: If you stop by the shop, take a moment or two to play a game of Indiana Jones Pinball Adventure!

Don’t despair, East-coast fans – some of these trading goods have been shipped to the archeological site (known as the Indiana Jones Adventure Outpost) at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

‘Decades’ Art Debuts for the Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration

posted on March 4th, 2015 by Michelle Harker, Manager, Merchandise Marketing & Communications, Disneyland Resort

Take a journey back in time to the years 1955–1964. The opening of Disneyland is underway, new never-before-seen attractions have come to life for all to enjoy, magnificent mountains magically appear, a skyway leads to journeys in Tomorrowland, mermaids and sea-serpents grace the seas amidst submarines and monorails take flight high above the world below.

1956_r0623

Beginning this May, and over the course of the entire Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration, we will take a look back at milestones like these during each of the last six decades that have made the Disneyland Resort what it is today, with this special ‘Decades’ collection. Designed by artist Jeff Granito, the first piece of art in the series will debut in May. I wanted to find out more about what inspired Jeff to create this very special collection, and here’s what he had to share.

“What made this collection so special for me was the opportunity to create specific pieces of art that represented key moments over the past sixty years in Disneyland Resort history,” said Jeff, “especially from a stylistic approach. In the initial piece, I wanted to capture the excitement and optimism of Disneyland during its first ten years. For many, it’s the first moment of discovery into new worlds and magical lands; where else can you have the atomic age of Tomorrowland, meet the whimsical touches of Fantasyland. For me, it was a dream come true.”

Here’s how it works! New art themed to each decade will debut almost every 60 days on items including apparel, home décor, pins and more. There might even be a few surprises in store. What, you ask? I guess you’ll have to keep watching the Disney Parks Blog to find out more.

Tip: Keep in mind with each release that purchasing limits will apply and merchandise is available while supplies last.

Here’s one final fun fact! There is a diamond-shaped icon in each piece. Can you find this one?

posted on February 27th, 2015 by Michelle Harker, Manager, Merchandise Marketing & Communications, Disneyland Resort

UPDATE 4/3/15: Egg-stravaganza maps are hopping on out of here! Maps are egg-stremely limited, please inquire at Disney Showcase in Disneyland park or Elias & Co. in Disney California Adventure park regarding availability.

I obviously didn’t need an egg-scuse this year to tell you about the return of the ever-popular Disney Egg-stravaganza at Disneyland park, Disney California Adventure park and Epcot! Here’s what you can egg-spect! From March 27 – April 5, 2015, you’ll be able to search for special hidden eggs themed to Disney characters at some of your favorite theme parks.

The Egg-stravaganza Returns to Disney Parks The Egg-stravaganza Returns to Disney Parks The Egg-stravaganza Returns to Disney Parks

How it works, for eggs-ample!
Have fun eggs-ploring the parks hunting for eggs that portray Disney characters! I can tell you from personal egg-sperience, fans were egg-cited to participate, even taking it to the egg-streme. Just record your discoveries by placing the corresponding sticker on the specially themed Egg-stravaganza map to represent that location. Maps and stickers can be purchased for $4.95, plus tax, at the following parks and locations.

There’s no reason to walk on eggshells – whether you choose to hunt for eggs or not, return your map to a redemption location – Elias & Co. at Disney California Adventure park; Disney Showcase in Disneyland park or Port of Entry in Epcot – by April 30 and participate in an ‘egg-scramble’ to pick up your surprise.

eggswdwdl123456

I think you’ll be egg-static about the new surprises this year! They’ll bear a striking resemblance to what you are already searching for and will be an eggs-cellent addition to your collection. I’ll take it one step further if you pardon the egg-spression, and tell you this time, you’ll want to make sure you put all of your eggs in one basket, because all new characters have been gathered to delight you, no yolk.

Purchasing limits will apply, while supplies last. Keep in mind that no discounts apply and separate admission is required to enter Disney Theme Parks. The experience of course, is subject to restrictions and change without notice.

Have I egged you on enough?

This March, think green and luck is sure to be on your Disney Side! Here are a few ways you can celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at Disney Parks.

Look for a specialty gourmet apple inspired by St. Patrick’s Day: dipped in caramel, enrobed in sweet milk chocolate, decorated with green sanding sugar and yellow jelly beans topped with a marshmallow hat.

SPDT7057913

Your luck continues with the re-introduction of March’s Triple Chocolate gourmet apple. This chocolatey confection has been dipped in creamy caramel, enrobed in sweet milk chocolate, rolled in a mixture of semi-sweet chocolate chips and white chocolate chips and drizzled with milk chocolate, dark chocolate and white chocolate. Fun Fact: This apple has been the #1 favorite among you, our Disney Parks fans for the past two years. Will its luck continue or will you choose another? Only time will tell. Mark your calendar for March 1, as these divinely delectable treats will go fast. Find them at Candy Palace on Main Street, U.S.A., in Disneyland park; Trolley Treats on Buena Vista Street in Disney California Adventure park; and Marceline’s Confectionery in the Downtown Disney District.

Perhaps our ‘lucky’ Mickey Mouse plush will help you find that pot of gold you’ve been looking for and the luck of the Irish will be on your side. This year’s brand-new St. Patrick’s Day pin features none other than Jessica Rabbit — a good luck charm.

Don’t miss out — The plush and pin are available now at select locations at the Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts!

This particular ‘window’ shopping trip shouldn’t cost you a thing – unless, of course, you are planning a visit to one of our many parks or resorts around the world. Take a look at some of the exciting new offerings and what our resident experts had to share.

aulshi293847

Traveling to Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa? Keep an eye out for the Dated 2015 collection at Kalepa’s Store. This year’s playful art featuring signature characters and icons lends itself to an array of items including adult and kid’s tees, souvenirs, mugs and ornaments that are easy to pack. Travelers Tip: If your trip is booked for later this spring, keep watching the Disney Parks Blog. I will be releasing details on several new collections set to debut this April which are guaranteed to make a splash! Now, off to Hong Kong Disneyland!

cnywdw293847

“We invite you to spread cheer and happiness this year,” said Fion Lai, “and celebrate Chinese New Year with us at Hong Kong Disneyland.” You’ll find special themed merchandise including apparel, plush (Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Duffy the Disney Bear and ShellieMay), festive candy boxes and biscuits as well as Disney-themed Lai See red packets and Fai Chun. Let’s keep traveling – next stop: Tokyo Disney Resort!

dblwdw293847

Our family and friends at Tokyo Disney Resort have cooked up something special as they celebrate a Sweet Duffy event through March 20, 2015. “This unique celebration is a recipe for success, says Director of Merchandise,” Gary LaTouche. “Our Disney fans love Duffy the Disney Bear, ShellieMay and Gelatoni, we have found that they can ‘bear’ly contain their excitement for some of the new offerings including plush, accessories, cooking essentials and sweet treats.” Where to next? How about Disneyland Paris?

Disneyland Paris Product Developer Regis Alart shared details with us about several new collections that have been added to Art on Demand at Disneyland Paris. “Some of my favorites include the Theatrical Mickey Mouse posters, reminiscent of the Fantasyland attraction, Meet Mickey Mouse,” Regis explains, “as well as the Circus inspired pieces designed for the Disney & Co. boutique on Main Street, U.S.A.; ‘Frozen’ and Disneyland Paris character art, designed by members of our merchandise art department.”

mmawdw291827

How does Art on Demand work? It’s easy! Simply find a kiosk (available at select art/collectible locations) and peruse the selections until you find what you’re looking for. Categories include characters, attractions, concept drawings and pieces by various Disney and Disney-inspired artists. Next, select the size and medium (canvas or paper), make your payment and within two to three weeks it will be delivered straight to your home.

Art on Demand is currently available at Disneyland Paris, Disneyland Resort and the Walt Disney World Resort.
