Meet Disney Artists Behind Vinylmation Park Starz 3 at D-Street in Downtown Disney West Side on June 27, 2014

A few weeks ago, the newest Vinylmation series, Park Starz 3, was released at Disney Parks. I love the Park Starz collections as they feature classic characters I love from attractions, shows and parades at Disney Parks. This newest series looks awesome (hello, Dreamfinder!!). On Friday, June 27, three Disney Design Group artists – Thomas Scott, Casey Jones and Caley Hicks – who designed figures in this series will be at D-Street in Downtown Disney West Side at Walt Disney World Resort. They will be signing figures and talking with fans from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. that day. I recently asked lead Vinylmation artist Thomas Scott about his favorite figures.

srarrr379482

“I love them all as they are my babies,” laughed Thomas who has been designing Vinylmation figures for a few years now. “I’m a big fan of space toys, so I included a Space Mountain-inspired astronaut in this series mostly because I wanted one. I also think the turtle from Disney’s Main Street Electrical Parade is one of the best figures we’ve ever designed. Casey Jones’ caveman from Spaceship Earth is also pretty unique as he is a character rarely found on merchandise.”

There are 12 figures in this limited release series – 11 known figures and one mystery chaser figure. They are sold either in individual mystery boxes or you can get the entire series by purchasing a tray.

srarrr639933

You may recognize new characters in this collection from attractions that were in Vinylmation – Park Starz Series 1 and Series 2 such as Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room, Pirates of the Caribbean and The Haunted Mansion. I’m guessing my fellow author Erin Glover is excited to see a figure of the Abominable Snowman from the Matterhorn.

srarrr039394

The artists also created some limited edition variant figures. Two of these items – the Pirate with pig and the Big Al with Trixie set – will be released on Friday, June 20. The remaining two – the Mission: SPACE astronaut and the clear Hitchhiking Ghost – will be released on Friday, June 27. These releases will take place at the D-Street locations in Florida and California where you can also find individual boxes or trays.

You can also find select items on our Disney Parks online store – http://www.disneystore.com/vinylmation/mn/1000828/

Which character is your favorite from this series? Please share in the comments below.

Chill Out This Summer with New Olaf Merchandise Coming to Disney Parks

posted on June 21st, 2014 by Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager

OTS706691

I imagine there is no character happier that summer has returned than Olaf from Disney’s “Frozen.” As we continue our first day of summer celebration on the Disney Parks Blog today, I thought I’d give you a look at new merchandise coming soon to Disney Parks that features the adorable snowman who loves warm hugs.

OTS706692

Girls will soon find two new sublimated T-shirts that include Olaf and other characters from this award-winning film.

OTS706693

In July, Olaf will be found on a new antenna topper (pictured at top) and a three-dimensional magnet.

OTS706694

An image of Olaf “chillin’” on a beach will be found on a beach towel, a tumbler, and an open edition pin (the latter will be released in August). A pin trading starter set that includes four pins (one being Olaf) and a lanyard also arrives in August.

Toward late summer, look for an Olaf-themed, fuzzy bag with a pouch to carry your mobile phone. Finally, Anna and Elsa will join Olaf on a new coffee mug (yes!) coming in early fall (the perfect time to remember summer as the weather turns cooler).

OTS706695

My favorite item, however, has to be the Olaf hat also coming this fall. I couldn’t resist getting a picture wearing it while dreaming of being on a beach somewhere in sun.

Look for these items in select merchandise locations at Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts in the coming months.

Happy summer!

New Pins to Collect and Trade Coming Summer 2014 to Disney Parks

posted on June 19th, 2014 by Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager

NDP669531

With the start of summer just around the corner, I caught up with Erin Catalano, merchandiser for Disney Pins. You may remember Erin when she wrote articles for the Disney Parks Blog as a member of our Merchandise Communications team. Last December, Erin transitioned to her new role and has since kept busy creating many new pins that are coming to Disney Parks this summer. In this first article of a series of three stories for the Disney Parks Blog, I asked her about the number of pins guests can soon expect to find.

NDP669532

“This summer will be an exciting time for guests who enjoy collecting or trading pins,” exclaimed Erin. “In the next three months, we will have about 250 new open edition pins that will be introduced at locations such as Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney World Resort or Disney Cruise Line. We know that finding pins of favorite characters, shows or attractions at Disney Parks is an important part of pin collecting. With these new pins, guests will have even more options to collect or trade what they like.”

NDP669533

Erin’s favorite pins this month were created especially for Aulani, a Disney Resort and Spa at Ko ‘Olina, Hawai’i. They include a multi-pin set and some beautiful logo pins featuring Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse.

I selected a few of my favorites for the top image in this story. Being a Donald Duck fan, the “I Don’t Tweet, I Quack” pin is outstanding. I was also happy to see Mr. Toad and Rapunzel included in the mix.

NDP669534

Some other pins that caught my eye include chalkboard art-inspired pins that reminded me of products in Disney Centerpiece at the newly opened Marketplace Co-Op at Downtown Disney Marketplace and online.

I’ll check back with Erin in a couple of weeks to see other new pins. Meanwhile, you can see the latest pin release information by visiting http://www.DisneyPins.com.

Happy Trading!

New Soccer Merchandise Scores a Goal at Walt Disney World Resort

posted on June 18th, 2014 by Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager

MSM795484

My fellow author Darcy Clark recently shared a look at the United World Soccer store at Downtown Disney West Side. This new location is a must-stop destination for fans of fútbol (and it would appear there are many as the world watches the events unfold in Brazil). Elsewhere at Walt Disney World Resort, we have recently introduced new soccer-themed goods that have a splash of Disney.

MSM795485

Decorated in hues of blue, green, yellow and white, this small new assortment was created specifically for World Showcase at Epcot. The main logo features a silhouette of Mickey Mouse kicking a soccer ball, which was used on several apparel items, a glass mug and two open edition pins.

MSM795487

These items can be found in select locations at Epcot and at the World of Disney in Downtown Disney Marketplace. The two open edition pins will also be released in select locations at Disneyland Resort.

MSM795486

One of my favorite items is a limited release pin featuring José Carioca, a character not often seen on Disney merchandise. He was originally created for Walt Disney’s “Saludos Amigos” in 1942, and now stars in the Mexico Pavilion attraction at Epcot, Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros. This pin was released at Disney Traders and Village Traders in World Showcase at Epcot, World of Disney in Downtown Disney Marketplace and Sport Goofy at Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort.

Speaking of Epcot, you can watch many of the World Cup games in the Odyssey Center. That’s just one of many viewing locations at Walt Disney World Resort. See the complete list here.

Look for future updates on the Disney Parks Blog as development progresses.

May the Force be with you!

Commemorative Merchandise for the 20th Anniversary of Disney’s ‘The Lion King’ at Disney Parks

posted on June 13th, 2014 by Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager

01_ParksBlog_LionKing20_Logo

This year marks the 20th Anniversary of Disney’s “The Lion King.” I recently gave you a look at some merchandise we created for Harambe Nights, the special Lion King-themed events taking place every Saturday from now through August 9, 2014 at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. There are, however, some additional items that commemorate this milestone anniversary coming to Disney Parks and the Disney Parks online store.

02_ParksBlog_LionKing20_ShirtPinLARGE

From June 12-17, 2014, the Disney Parks online store will offer an anniversary T-shirt with artwork created by Disney Design Group artist Caley Hicks. This shirt will only be sold online at http://www.DisneyStore.com/ParkEvents. Please allow four-six weeks for delivery.

The Disney Pin team also created a limited edition pin for this anniversary. The pin has an edition size of 2,000, and it will be released in select locations at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resort. Unfortunately, this pin won’t be available online.

03_ParksBlog_LionKing20_ItemsLARGE

Disney Theme Park Merchandise has offered items for Disney’s “The Lion King” for many years. I first wrote about them for the Disney Parks Blog in October 2011 when the Diamond Edition of this film was released on Disney Blu-ray and DVD. Recently, I photographed some additional things at Downtown Disney Marketplace including plush, toys, artwork and pins.

Coming in July, you will also find a handful of new open edition pins with characters from this Disney animated classic. These pins will be released at locations in both California and Florida.

posted on June 12th, 2014 by Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager

New Merchandise Coming to Fifth Weekend at Star Wars Weekends From June 13-15, 2014 at Disney's Hollywood Studios

Being a long-time Star Wars fan, I’m delighted there is a fifth weekend for Star Wars Weekends this year at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This extra weekend takes place during Father’s Day on June 15, which is perfect since I regularly recreate a famous scene from Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back with my son. Here is a brief look at some new items that you will find at Darth’s Mall, our merchandise location found between Toy Story Midway Mania and Studio Backlot Tour.

New Merchandise Coming to Fifth Weekend at Star Wars Weekends From June 13-15, 2014 at Disney's Hollywood Studios

New items will include fun Darth Vader shirts, and some character T-shirts, a glass mug, and a spinner pin with characters from the upcoming Disney XD animated series, Star Wars Rebels.

Other new items include a 3-inch Vinylmation set that was originally designed for Vinylmation – Star Wars series 2 (it contains a Jawa and R5-D4), and a limited edition, D-Tech on Demand case for iPhone 5/5S featuring Goofy and Max. You can also find a new Disney Theme Park Tagalong, featuring Jedi Master Yoda.

New Merchandise Coming to Fifth Weekend at Star Wars Weekends From June 13-15, 2014 at Disney's Hollywood Studios

For the first time, we will release two limited edition, retail MagicBands with pre-printed images (edition size 2,500 each). There will be a green retail MagicBand with Yoda’s image and a red retail MagicBand with Darth Vader’s image (colors were selected to match their light saber colors). Each retail MagicBand will be packaged in a decorative Star Wars Weekends box (you can use the free Aurasma app on your mobile device to make the box image come to life).

New Merchandise Coming to Fifth Weekend at Star Wars Weekends From June 13-15, 2014 at Disney's Hollywood Studios

Finally to celebrate this fifth weekend, I would love your help in selecting the next Star Wars-themed Disney Racer that will be released in spring 2015. You may recall that we recently re-launched Disney Racers at Disney Parks. This is the first time we’ve asked our readers to select the next design to be made. When it’s released, the packaging for this die-cast metal car will have a “fan choice” call-out.

Please take a moment to vote for your favorite design from the list below. Voting will only be available for three days, June 12-15, 2014. We will reveal the winning entry on Monday, June 16, on the Disney Parks Blog.

The One and Original Country Bear Shirt Coming to the Disney Parks Online Store from June 23-29, 2014

posted on June 11th, 2014 by Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager

cbj700021

I love classic Disney attractions and the Country Bear Jamboree is no exception. I recently saw the show again during the Rock Your Disney Side Party at Magic Kingdom Park and loved singing along (I should sing those tunes during karaoke). The attraction had originally been designed as a show for the never built Mineral King ski resort in the 1960s. It opened in Frontierland at Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World Resort in October 1971, and eventually made its way to Disney Parks around the world (seeing it in Japan in 2002 was incredible!). To salute this classic show, we are releasing the next Disney Parks’ attraction poster T-shirt on the Disney Parks online store from Monday, June 23 through Sunday, June 29.

cbj528002

The original attraction poster was designed by Jim Michaelson, Marc Davis, and Eddie Martinez. Disney Design Group artist Richard Terpstra used elements of that poster when designing the shirt, which will be printed on a Hanes Beefy T-shirt.

cbj638993

Guests can order the T-shirt starting June 23 by visiting http://www.DisneyStore.com/ParkEvents. Please allow 4-6 weeks for delivery (yes, we now have a shorter delivery window!).

cbj570094

Besides the classic country music, the thing I remember most about the Country Bear Jamboree is the image found on this classic lunchbox (I’m sure I’m not alone).

Yee-haw!

Disney Parks Merchandise: Celebrating 80 Years of Donald Duck

posted on June 9th, 2014 by Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager

don839901

This year, June 9 marks the 80th anniversary for one of my favorite Disney characters, Donald Duck. I’ve been a Donald Duck fan since college when I attended a Disney Institute presentation in Lima, Ohio. During that presentation, the facilitator gave me a small Donald Duck figure for sharing a story about the time I applied to work at Walt Disney World Resort while still in high school (I really wanted to be a cast member!). I still have that critter today, and I have an even greater appreciation of the original angry bird. In recent years, I’ve loved Donald even more for the stylish red bow tie he wears.

don739902

To commemorate this milestone anniversary, the Disney Parks online store is releasing a specially designed T-shirt. From June 9-12, you can find this shirt by visiting DisneyStore.com/ParkEvents. Please allow 4-6 weeks for delivery.

don5789923

We are also releasing a limited edition spinner pin that contains both a black and white and a color image of my favorite bird (edition size is 2,500). This pin will be released in select merchandise locations at Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts starting June 5.

This also seemed like a great time to share photos of my favorite Donald Duck items found at Disney Parks. The suitcase “quacks” me up.

Happy Anniversary, Donald!
