What’s This? Jack Skellington Brings a Touch of Christmastown to Walt Disney World Resort for the Holidays

posted on November 7th, 2014 by Shawn Slater, Communications Manager, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Creative Entertainment

Fans of “Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas” have even more to grin about this holiday season.

The Pumpkin King himself, Jack Skellington, has decided to join the holiday celebration at Walt Disney World Resort by dropping in on Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at Magic Kingdom Park. Head back to Storybook Circus during the party, and you’ll find Jack making Christmas as “Sandy Claws” – just don’t count on any gifts from him turning out quite right.

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, which is separate from regular Magic Kingdom Park admission, starts tonight and continues on select nights through December 19.

Meanwhile over at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, there’s color everywhere and white things in the air as the 2014 season of The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights returns to the park’s Streets of America tonight.

This year, the song “What’s This?” from “Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas” has been added to the show, bringing with it all the wonder and delight Jack Skellington experienced upon first visiting Christmastown. “What’s This?” joins such favorites as “Feliz Navidad” by Jose Feliciano and “Christmas Is Starting Now” by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy on the playlist of holiday songs for the dancing lights.

The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights is presented nightly through January 4, 2015 (except November 20), and is included with regular admission to Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

The Stars of ‘Big Hero 6′ Are Ready for Their Disney Parks Debut

posted on November 6th, 2014 by Shawn Slater, Communications Manager, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Creative Entertainment

Hiro Hamada and his buddy, a huggable robot named Baymax, are flying into theaters in 3D on Friday in Disney’s new comedy adventure, “Big Hero 6.” And starting this weekend, you’ll be able to see them in person at Disney Parks!

At Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resort, look for Hiro and Baymax inside The Magic of Disney Animation attraction, where you’ll find recreations of Hiro’s garage workshop and the San Fransokyo Institute of Technology labs seen in the film. When Hiro and his robot companion head west to the Disneyland Resort, you’ll find them in Tomorrowland near the Starcade and Magic Eye Theater, where you can also catch a special exclusive sneak peek of “Big Hero 6.”

I caught an early preview of “Big Hero 6” myself, and I can tell you the film is fantastic! I can’t wait to take my kids to see it this weekend. They recently got some of the toys for their birthday, and I’m sure we’ll be out at the park soon to spend time with their new favorite characters.

Who’s ready for cookies, cocoa, and holiday cheer? I sure am! So I’m giddy with excitement that it’s almost time for another season of Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party!

This Magic Kingdom Park tradition kicks off Friday, November 7, and this year the annual event gets an extra dose of holiday magic with “A Frozen Holiday Wish,” additions to “Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade,” new character dance parties, and opportunities to visit with not only Santa Claus, but Santa Goofy and “Sandy Claws” too!

“Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade” includes lots of Disney characters, along with a holly jolly cast of snowmen, reindeer, elves, and of course, Santa Claus. Ralph and Vanellope from “Wreck-It Ralph” are new to the parade this year, as is a procession of visitors from the Kingdom of Arendelle with Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, and Olaf from “Frozen.”

The “Holiday Hootenanny!” boot-scoots into the Diamond Horseshoe in Frontierland, where you can kick up your heels for some down-home holiday fun with the Country Bears, Clarabelle Cow, Horace Horsecollar, and Clara Cluck. And over at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café in Tomorrowland, Club Tinsel becomes the top spot to get down when Phineas and Ferb show up. What are they going to do today? The brothers are going to rock their Christmas vacation with the holiday cheeriest dance party this side of Danville!

Christmas has come to Storybook Circus, too, and some of your favorite Disney pals are all dressed up for the occasion, including Minnie, Daisy, Donald, Scrooge McDuck, and of course, Santa Goofy. And what’s this? Pumpkin king Jack Skellington has been so inspired by everything in Christmastown, he wants to be part of the holiday celebration, too. You’ll find Jack in Storybook Circus – dressed in his finest “Sandy Claws” suit and ready to meet the boys and girls of every age!

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is held on select nights, November 7 – December 19, and is separate from regular Magic Kingdom Park admission. Tickets are available now. Get yours before dates start selling out.

After Disney’s new animated feature “Big Hero 6” hits theaters in 3D in November, the stars of the film are heading to Disney Parks to greet their fans.

BGS697042

At Walt Disney World Resort, Disney’s Hollywood Studios guests can step inside The Magic of Disney Animation attraction to tour the lab from the San Fransokyo Institute of Technology, and then meet Hiro Hamada and his huggable buddy Baymax in Hiro’s garage workshop.

Sneak Preview of ‘Big Hero 6’ Coming to Disneyland Park September 26

posted on September 15th, 2014 by Shawn Slater, Communications Manager, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Creative Entertainment

UPDATE: “Big Hero 6″ Sneak Peek opens to Disneyland park guests September 26, not September 25 as previously stated.

BHS797644

I recently had an opportunity to visit Walt Disney Animation Studios in Burbank, Calif., where modern Disney classics like “Wreck-It Ralph” and “Frozen” were made. Right now, filmmakers at the studio are busy putting the finishing touches on their latest animated feature, “Big Hero 6.” From what I saw during my visit, I think “Big Hero 6” is going to be a huge hit, packed with plenty of humor and heart.

We still have a couple more months before “Big Hero 6” hits theaters, but soon guests at Disneyland park will get to see an exclusive sneak preview of the film. For a limited time starting September 25 26, the “Big Hero 6” Sneak Peek will be presented in 4D with special in-theater effects at the Magic Eye Theater in Tomorrowland.

From Walt Disney Animation Studios comes “Big Hero 6,” an action-packed comedy-adventure about the special bond that develops between young prodigy Hiro Hamada and his closest companion, a robot named Baymax. When a devastating event befalls the city of San Fransokyo and catapults Hiro into the midst of danger, he turns to Baymax and a group of friends, whom he transforms into a band of high-tech heroes, to help uncover a mystery and save the day.

Disney’s “Big Hero 6” opens in theaters in 3D on November 7, 2014.

Oswald the Lucky Rabbit Is on His Way to Disney California Adventure Park

posted on September 2nd, 2014 by Shawn Slater, Communications Manager, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Creative Entertainment

Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, one of Walt Disney’s earliest cartoon stars, has had a presence at Disney California Adventure park for the past couple of years, from those delightful rabbit ear hats to the Oswald ice cream sundaes at Clarabelle’s. Now, Oswald himself is set to come home to Disneyland Resort!

NOI796548

Oswald made his film debut September 5, 1927, in the cartoon short “Trolley Troubles.” Walt Disney went on to produce 26 Oswald the Lucky Rabbit shorts, before losing the rights to the character in 1928. It was that experience that inspired the creation of Mickey Mouse, and the rest as they say, is history. Oswald finally returned to the Disney family in 2006 and made his first Disney Parks appearance earlier this year at Tokyo DisneySea.

Later this month, you’ll finally be able to meet Oswald on Buena Vista Street at Disney California Adventure park. Just look for the lucky little rabbit strolling along the sunny side of the street, starting September 14!
