“Ua mau ke ea o ka ʻāina i ka pono” – the life of the land is perpetuated in righteousness. This is our Hawai’i state motto, and it holds special meaning for all of us here in the 50th State. Through it, we have a glimpse of the importance that Hawaiians put on the land and environment. With our recent celebration of World Oceans Day at Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa, we wanted to share a little bit more about how we celebrate mauka to makai – from the mountains to the sea – perpetuating our environment. From guest activities to our VoluntEARS programs, caring for our island home remains a focal point in all that we do. Enjoy this video, and aloha!

Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa, is a Hawaiian experience with that touch of Disney magic that makes your island vacation unforgettable. Todayʻs exciting news highlights that touch of Disney magic here in paradise. For the first time in history, Aulani will have a Disney Ambassador to represent our Disney resort and engage our guests, cast and communities. For those of you who may not know the role of a Disney Ambassador, the tradition dates back to 1965 when Walt Disney first selected a cast member to serve as the official spokesperson and representative at Disneyland park.
Janelle Sanqui, Aulani’s first Disney Ambassador, currently works in Workforce Management at the resort and was born in Hawaii. She lived in California before returning to to the islands nearly 10 years ago. Her previous experience includes two years as a parade performer at the Disneyland Resort, and she was part of our Aulani entertainment team when we opened in 2011.
Our announcement was recently made along with news of the first-ever Disney Ambassador selections for Shanghai Disney Resort. Also earlier this month, new 2015-2016 Disney Ambassadors were named at Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney World Resort, Disneyland Paris, Hong Kong Disneyland Resort and Tokyo Disney Resort, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Disney Ambassador Program.
Please join me in saying hoʻomaikaʻi, congratulations, and giving a warm “e komo mai” to Janelle!

“An enchanting resort complete with Disney character experiences and a touch of local culture in everything …”
That’s what reviewers at Fodor’s Travel, one of the largest and most respected publishers of travel and tourism information, are saying about Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa, which is being recognized as a 2014 Fodor’s 100 Hotel Award winner, and one of the top 12 “Beach Getaway” hotels worldwide. Aulani was the only resort in all of Hawai‘i to be included in this distinguished category.
Fodor’s evaluated more than 5,000 properties around the globe, so cracking the top 100 – and being called out as one of the world’s greatest beach resorts – is a wonderful achievement.
What do you love most about your “Beach Getaway” to Aulani?

Malama means to care for, to protect and to maintain. April is Earth Month, and Aulani, a Disney Resort and Spa in Hawaii, has many ways to practice malama. Last week, Aulani was recognized for those efforts by the American Resort Development Association (ARDA).
At its annual awards banquet, ARDA presented Aulani with four awards, including the Green Sustainable Program within a Resort and the ACE Project of Excellence Award for being the “best of the best.”
During Earth Month, we celebrate these awards and touch on the green, sustainable programs at Aulani. As we announced last year, Aulani became the first Hawaii resort to be LEED certified, achieving Silver Certification. The effort began from day one, as much of today’s success started with the planning of Aulani back in 2007. As we continue into our third year of providing a deep Hawaiian cultural experience to our guests and Disney Vacation Club Owners, our efforts continue around energy savings, recycling and being good stewards of the aina – the land.
A few final notes on being green at Aulani:
- Our Aulani VolutEARS will spend Earth Day, April 22, at Kaʻala Learning Center in the native Hawaiian loʻi kalo – taro field – and helping to grow a native Hawaiian dry forest.
- Our favorite green character, Kermit, and his friends are hoping for an Aulani vacation as well. If you haven’t seen it yet, check out the Muppet’s Most Wanted Aulani Vacation.

Exciting News from Aulani for Fans of our Hawaiian Mele: Music of the Makaʻala Available for Download March 18

Mele means music, and it’s a key part of your Aulani arrival. When you get out of your car, you are greeted with an “Aloha,” a lei and the physical beauty of Aulani. But it gets better as you enter the Makaʻala Grand Lobby, where your senses are then filled with mele that is special to Aulani.
We are excited to announce that starting tomorrow, March 18, you can own that part of the Aulani experience. The Music of the Makaʻala will be available for purchase and download at disneymusicstore.com and other online outlets. These five special songs, written by Kealiʻi Reichel and Mark Mancina, help bring the Hawaii storytelling to life at Aulani … And now at your home, car and wherever you take your music with you.
One of the songs, “He Lei No Aulani” talks of the tranquil splendor and affectionate welcome that greets our guests. The lyrics begin, “Iā ʻoe ē keia wehi ē” – this adornment is for you. The song says that our greeting is told through everlasting love – “wear this lei, it is for you, the one who has come.”
E hoʻolohe ana mai – listen. The mele of Aulani is here for you.

One of my favorite activities that the whole ‘ohana can enjoy together at Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa, is snorkeling at Rainbow Reef. In fact, it’s the only private snorkeling lagoon on O’ahu. At Rainbow Reef, you can get up-close to nearly 50 different types of sea life native to Hawai`i. And we recently added an enhanced experience, S.A.S. (Supplied-Air Snorkeling), which is perfect for novice snorkelers. My fellow Disney Parks Blog author, Erin Glover, gave it a try on her last visit to Aulani – go along with her and see it for yourself in the video below.
Have you and your ‘ohana had a chance to snorkel in Rainbow Reef? What kind of fish did you find? Now is the perfect time to visit Aulani with this great offer.

Mālama – to care for. That’s what we do for each other here in Hawai`i, especially during this special time of the year. Mālama is also why giving back to our community through the Disney VoluntEARS program is something that’s so valued by our cast members at Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa. It gives them a chance to share a little bit of Disney magic while making a difference in our own community.
Last week, a holiday VoluntEARS event was made even more memorable for everyone in attendance with a special announcement. While visiting keiki, the children, and staff at Kapi`olani Medical Center for Women & Children we announced a $250,000 gift to the Kapi`olani Health Foundation for the renovation and rebuilding of their facility servicing keiki from Hawaii and throughout the Pacific. The gift will support a special family-oriented play area in the soon-to-be constructed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit building. Afterward, Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and Disney VoluntEARS toured the hospital, visiting keiki patients and their families in rooms, delivering small gifts and bringing smiles and holiday cheer wherever they went.
Mickey and Minnie once again were the Grand Marshals of the Kapolei Holiday Lights Parade with Disney VoluntEARS walking alongside and sharing Aulani’s support for the community it calls home. At the end of the parade, Mickey and Minnie helped turn on the lights on the City tree and fireworks closed out this special night for our local community.

I first became acquainted with the music of R5 and their continually growing popularity from my two kids. R5 is made of up Disney Channel star Ross Lynch, his sister Rydell, brothers Riker and Rocky, and their close friend Ratliff. I then had the special privilege to hang out with the Lynch family for a couple of days here at Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa, as the group took to the beach to perform their song “Pass Me By.” I shared a bit of Hawaiian culture with their ‘ohana, and they returned the favor by playing bit of their mele – music – for all of us. And a special “ALOHA!” to Ryland, the one sibling who doesn’t play in the band, but who certainly kept the fun going for the ‘ohana on the slides, in the pool, on the beach volleyball court, and everywhere throughout the resort. Check out the video of all the great moments they had here at Aulani.
Catch five unplugged versions of R5 songs from their new album, Louder, during Take 5 with R5 Night – tomorrow, December 21, starting at 5 p.m. Eastern – only on Disney Channel.
And don’t let an Aulani vacation opportunity for you and your ʻohana pass you by! Visit DisneyAulani.com to book your warm winter vacation and enjoy a 4th night free along with free breakfasts each morning (for two adults) at Ulu Cafe with a consecutive four-night stay purchase.
