Disney Parks Bento Box Magic: Turkey Lurkey

posted on November 26th, 2015 by Thomas Smith, Editorial Content Director, Disney Parks

We’re continuing our series of Disney-inspired bento box tutorials with a special Thanksgiving Day treat. Today, we’re showing you how to make Turkey Lurkey from the 2005 film, “Chicken Little,” using snow peas, corn, apples, eggplant and other tasty ingredients.

benben635111111

Disney Parks Blog reader Mike Kravanis designed his latest artistic bento box with paper and pencil. To create it, he used eggplant for the hat, ham (not turkey) for the face and neck, yellow cheese and nori for the beak, white cheese and nori for the eyes, red pepper for the wattle and comb, white cheese and red onion for the shirt and tie.

Apples are used to create Turkey Lurkey’s feathers and snow peas and baby corn for the bento box background.

And Mike also added a Chicken Little. It’s an egg, red pepper, snow pea eyeglasses, yellow cheese for the beak, nori for the eyes and eyebrows. And if you look close, he’s sitting on kale and broccoli stalk shavings.

Keep checking the Disney Parks Blog for more Disney-inspired bento box tutorials in upcoming weeks.

Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Celebrates Family Volunteer Day

posted on November 24th, 2015 by Thomas Smith, Editorial Content Director, Disney Parks

Our parks and resorts around the world give families and loved ones opportunities to make lasting memories together, and that vision continues to drive our citizenship efforts. We are committed to nurture, inspire, and empower kids and families by bringing them together to make lasting change in the world. Last weekend, our VoluntEARS around the world celebrated Family Volunteer Day. Now in its 25th year, this coordinated effort is a national day of service organized by generationOn and sponsored by Disney Friends for Change.

At Disneyland Resort, guests and Disney VoluntEARS made more than 5,000 snack packs for the Orange County Food Bank, wrote postcards to service men and women and built butterfly garden kits for after-school programs. VoluntEARS also spent time assembling food boxes at the Orange County Food Bank.

Walt Disney World guests, cast and their families created 500 Clean the World toiletry kits for Families in Transition in Osceola County. Participants also wrote postcards for Operation Uplift and greeting cards for local children’s hospitals to bring extra smiles for the holiday season. The Disney Kids and Family Zone also stopped by to provide some healthy snacks, fun games and a photo area for even more lasting memories.

VoluntEARS and families from Hong Kong Disneyland refreshed a local campsite for the Physically Handicapped and Able-Bodied Association (PHAB). This is the first campsite in Hong Kong to promote inclusiveness and socialization among visitors, and the work of the VoluntEARS will help even more people to enjoy the space.

Tokyo Disney Resort cast members and their family joined hands with other community volunteers to clean the shoreline of their local Kasai Rinkai Park. VoluntEARS spent the day helping to preserve the park’s pristine nature for everyone to enjoy.

Thank you to all the resort guests and Disney VoluntEARS who joined together for Family Volunteer Day. This is just one of many ways Walt Disney Parks and Resorts VoluntEARS donate hundreds of thousands of hours every single year. Read more about how The Walt Disney Company participated in Family Volunteer Day on the Disney Post.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios to Debut New Star Wars Experiences in December

posted on November 9th, 2015 by Thomas Smith, Editorial Content Director, Disney Parks

You heard about it first during the 2015 D23 EXPO, and now we’re excited to share more details. Very soon, guests visiting Disney’s Hollywood Studios will have the opportunity to experience Star Wars in the park in an all-new way – every day! New experiences will open starting Dec. 1, bringing that galaxy far, far away, a little bit closer.

Star Wars Launch Bay will take guests into the Star Wars saga and the upcoming film, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, with special exhibits and peeks behind-the-scenes, special merchandise and opportunities to encounter Chewbacca and Darth Vader.

ser234877

Star Tours – The Adventures Continue will be home to a brand new adventure inspired by the upcoming film, Star Wars: The Force Awakens. During the opening months, we’ll make sure that everyone who rides Star Tours will experience the new adventure. After that, it will be up to the will of the Force. Here’s a sneak peek of where the Starspeeder 1000 will be taking us.

We also have new information about “Star Wars: Path of the Jedi.” It will feature scenes from the complete Star Wars saga, also giving anyone new to the Star Wars galaxy an opportunity to get acquainted with the films.

Last, but certainly not least, is Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple, which will open in early December. This reimagined Jedi Training experience will take younglings to the secret site of an ancient Jedi temple where they will face Darth Vader along with the Seventh Sister – a new villain from the Disney XD series “Star Wars Rebels.”

And work begins next year on the 14-acre Star Wars-themed land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. With construction underway, unfortunately, we won’t be able to offer Star Wars Weekends. While Star Wars Weekends has been a great way to enjoy the saga for a few days every year, now the Force will be with Disney’s Hollywood Studios every day.

With Star Wars Launch Bay, the new Jedi Training experience, “Star Wars: Path of the Jedi” and a new destination in the Star Tours attraction opening in December, you’ll be able to step into the Star Wars saga every time you visit Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
