See How Music City Got its Name on an Adventures by Disney Nashville Vacation

posted on November 19th, 2014 by Amanda Adler, Public Relations Manager

Earlier this month the city of Nashville was buzzing with celebrities, red carpets and the glitz and glamour of the annual Country Music Awards. But I’ll let you in on a little secret – Nashville is a place that’s always alive, electric and brimming with restaurants, concert venues, honky-tonks and, yes, even street corners filled with music. Nashville is called “Music City” year round, not just during awards season, and with an Adventures by Disney Long Weekend trip to Nashville you can truly see how, and why, this town got its nickname.

paabd273848

I recently had the chance to visit a few of the places featured on this new Adventures by Disney itinerary, including RCA Studio B, known as the “home of a thousand hits.” Although, if we’re getting technical here (and I think we should), RCA Studio B has actually been home to more than 35,000 songs and hits. I don’t want to sound like a namedropper, but I will say that a long list of music legends recorded chart-topping albums here (most recorded before the assistance of the sort of auto-tune technology that “helps” today’s artists sound their very best).

As if touring RCA Studio B isn’t cool enough, with Adventures by Disney you get to go one step further and actually add to the legacy by recording your very own song! Again, no help from auto-tune, you’re on your own on this one, but I will give you a tip – they say this little blue “x” marks the spot for sounding your very best. I’d start by standing there.

NWD6903799

And if that doesn’t make you feel like enough of a music superstar, you’ll also get to make your own concert poster at Hatch Show Print, where they’ve been making concert handbills for more than a century. If you have any concert prints in your home take a look, it might just be a Hatch Show Print. Their prints have a classic letterpress look that has remained en vogue throughout the years.

NWD6903743

You’ll also visit the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, see a show and GO BACKSTAGE (yes, I’m using all caps because it’s just that exciting) at the Grand Ole Opry, meet and learn from professional songwriters at the legendary Bluebird Café and enjoy so many other rock star style experiences on this trip. And I can’t even begin to emphasize how much music you’re really getting here. I even saw live musicians playing at the bars and lounges in the Nashville airport (Disclaimer: I can’t promise they’ll be there when you visit, but you get my point, music is everywhere).

And on day 3 of the trip, when you go to the rustic Puckett’s Grocery & Restaurant for breakfast, get the peanut butter and banana French toast, it’s amazing (Disclaimer: I can’t promise you’ll find it amazing. Actually yes I can. It’s amazing. And I ate it too fast to be one of those people who takes photos of their food and thus I can’t show you just how amazing it looks in person. So you’ll just have to trust me, and “The King,” on this one). Enjoy it with a chocolate milkshake like I did, because it’s never too early for a milkshake.

NWD6903744

Best of all, the Nashville vacation is one of the new Adventures by Disney Long Weekend getaway trips, which are shorter itineraries for you to enjoy, well, over a long weekend (4 days/3 nights to be exact), making this trip an easy escape for anyone looking to get away. Besides, who doesn’t need a little more music in her life?

See the City that Inspired the Creators of ‘Big Hero 6′ on an Adventures by Disney San Francisco Vacation

posted on November 5th, 2014 by Heather Killingbeck, Director, Trip & Program Development, Adventures By Disney

Adventures by Disney recently announced an exciting lineup of Long Weekend itineraries that allow your family to enjoy an unforgettable getaway together on a shorter timeframe. These trips take you to New York City, Wyoming, Nashville or the “City by the Bay,” San Francisco, which served as the inspiration for the fictional town of San Fransokyo (pictured below) from the Walt Disney Pictures film “Big Hero 6” (coming to theaters November 7).

BIG HERO 6

“Big Hero 6″ is an action-packed comedy-adventure about the special bond that develops between Baymax, a plus-sized inflatable robot, and prodigy Hiro Hamada. When a devastating event befalls the city of San Fransokyo and catapults Hiro into the midst of danger, he turns to Baymax and his close friends to help uncover the mystery.

On the Adventures by Disney Long Weekend vacation to San Francisco, you can explore the city that inspired “Big Hero 6″ filmmakers, while also enjoying visits to landmarks such as Muir Woods, a privately guided tour of the Walt Disney Family Museum, a special trip to Lucasfilm, wine tasting at Silverado Vineyards in Napa and so much more.

Plus, now this trip also includes exciting enhancements that are sure to delight fans of “Big Hero 6″, including:

  • Exclusive videos featuring interviews with the directors and producers of “Big Hero 6″ not seen anywhere else
  • A visit to the Angel Island military base, which plays a significant role in the film
  • A trip through San Francisco’s Japantown, which served as a great inspiration for the filmmakers when designing the animated look of San Fransokyo
  • Other fun surprises and activities related to the film

These enhancements to the Adventures by Disney San Francisco vacation will allow you to see this magnificent city through the creative lenses of Disney’s award-winning team of animators and filmmakers.

Go ‘Down Under’ to Australia With Adventures by Disney

posted on October 30th, 2014 by Amanda Adler, Public Relations Manager

From the Great Barrier Reef to the outback to Sydney Harbor, there’s so much to explore on an Adventures by Disney vacation to Australia.

abdaus273645

I have always been intrigued by the land “down under” (though I never really could pull off a convincing “g’day, mate!”). Australia may be the smallest of the seven continents, but it’s the world’s largest island and sixth largest country. Rainforest, desert, big cities, the largest tropical reef in the world – there’s so much to see. So much, in fact, that planning a trip to this island continent can seem overwhelming.

But while seeing all three million square miles of Australia might not be possible (that would take a LOT of years of saved up vacation time), with Adventures by Disney you can see much of what makes this such an amazing place to visit (on a vacation timeline that your boss will actually approve).

Here are just a few of the highlights of the 12-day, 11-night Australia vacation.

abdaus273845

The Great Barrier Reef

It’s one of the Seven Natural Wonders and the only living thing that can be seen from outer space, and with Adventures by Disney you can explore the Great Barrier Reef with a private marine biologist. Snorkel alongside a dazzling array of sea life or view the reef three feet below the surface from inside a semi-submersible vessel.

Ayers Rock
In Australia’s famed outback you’ll enjoy a privately guided hike around the base of sacred Ayers Rock, also known by its Aboriginal name, Uluru.

abdaus916253

Explore Scenic Sydney

Pedal around Sydney Harbor on a privately guided bike tour, visit the stunning Sydney Opera House and get a private surfing lesson at the famous Bondi Beach.

abdaus274856

Aboriginal Cultural Park

Participate in Aboriginal traditions as Tjapukai tribe members share their culture with song and dance. Listen to a didgeridoo and learn how to throw a boomerang and a spear.

Tasmania Discovery

Soar over eucalyptus trees on zip lines. Paddle a sea kayak on the sparkling waters of Coles Bay. And visit the Tasmanian Devils, wallabies, koalas, wombats and other intriguing animals at the Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary.

With Adventures by Disney you can rest assured knowing that the itinerary planning details are handled for you, giving you more time to channel your inner kangaroo and pack your pouch (or suitcase, whichever you prefer) for your exciting Australian vacation!

Enjoy a Sleigh Ride Together with Adventures by Disney

posted on October 20th, 2014 by Amanda Adler, Public Relations Manager

It’s nearly the holiday season. Time for warm wooly sweaters, hot cocoa by the fire and snowball fights on the front lawn. Or at least that’s my dreamy vision of winter (speaking as someone living in Florida). But even if winter to you means shoveling your driveway and deicing your windshield, you can experience a truly heavenly winter wonderland on the Adventures by Disney Winter in Wyoming Long Weekend vacation.

dlrrrl732822

I recently shared some pretty cool modes of transportation available on Adventures by Disney trips, but the Winter in Wyoming Long Weekend itinerary features one of my all-time favorite ways to get around – by sleigh!

Here you can learn the art of “mushing” on a modern sled pulled by a team of sled dogs. Dash over the powdery white snow through the majestic scenery of Jackson Hole. Even St. Nick himself will be impressed with your speed and precision!

dlrrrl620112

And don’t worry about getting too chilly, after sledding through frosty terrain you can relax in the steaming, rejuvenating waters of Granite Hot Springs.

You’ll also have the opportunity to ride in a vintage snow vehicle (let’s call this one a sleigh on wheels) for excursions through Yellowstone National Park. See frozen waterfalls, steaming geysers and be on the lookout for local residents like bison, elk, bald eagles, coyotes, swans, otters and moose.

dlrrrl743631

I can almost hear those sleigh bells jinglin’ now!

So put on your toastiest flannel jammies (I’ll crank the air conditioning up in my house and do the same) and check out all the great frosty fun in store for you at AdventuresbyDisney.com.

Planes, Trains, Automobiles and Beyond with Adventures by Disney

posted on October 8th, 2014 by Amanda Adler, Public Relations Manager

On an Adventures by Disney vacation you can truly see the world. But as every traveler knows, sometimes the journey can be just as exciting as the destination itself. With Adventures by Disney you can be sure that journey will be full of fun and unique experiences.

PTA807042

Here are simply a few examples of the ways you can travel – with style and with squeals of adrenaline – on an Adventures by Disney trip.

Take Flight
Airborne adventures are part of many Adventures by Disney itineraries. Soar between the Greek isles, jet from mainland Ecuador to explore wildlife in the Galapagos, or explore the diversity of the land “down under” as you fly from the Great Barrier Reef to the Outback and beyond on our Australia adventure.

All Aboard!
There are few things more relaxing than simply sitting back and watching the scenery roll by on a train ride, and many Adventures by Disney itineraries allow you to do just that. Hop aboard the Alaska Railroad for a scenic ride along the Kenai Peninsula, savor the memorable train journey to Aguas Calientes – gateway to Peru’s Machu Picchu, or plunge into darkness as you shoot under the English Channel through the Chunnel on a high-speed train ride whisking you from England to France.

ABD5451515961

Behind the Wheel of an Automobile
When it comes to thrilling transportation options on four wheels, Adventures by Disney has options galore. Board an ice exploration vehicle that travels over the vast Columbia Icefield on the North American Continental Divide, go on an off-road adventure in Arizona and Utah, climb aboard a jeep for a private expedition into the bush country of Africa on a 3-day safari, or visit Briksdal Glacier in Norway via something called a “troll car.”

ABD93493475

From biking to rowing to horse (not to mention donkey, dog and even elephant!) power and beyond, Adventures by Disney offers some pretty magnificent ways to get around.

ABD90834837

While the world waits for personal jetpacks and flying cars, you can feel like you’re flying (above the treetops) while zip lining in Costa Rica. Or explore the other exciting modes of transportation offered on our trips by visiting AdventuresByDisney.com!

Top Five Hands-On Food Experiences with Adventures by Disney

posted on September 29th, 2014 by Andrae Gill, Adventures by Disney

With more than two-dozen incredible destinations to choose from, Adventures by Disney allows you to see the world while finding your inner foodie. From creating traditional svele pancakes in Norway and crafting handmade pasta and pizza in Italy to harvesting rice in Laos or grape stomping in Greece, you can immerse yourself in local flavor and cuisine no matter which itinerary you choose.

abdabd111111

Here are my top 5 unique hands-on food experiences:

1. Vietnam – The Adventures by Disney trip to Southeast Asia allows you to savor the regional cuisines of Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. In Hoi An you can participate in a private cooking class, where you’ll learn how to make some of Vietnam’s delicious traditional dishes. You will even get to pick your own fresh ingredients and spices at a local market with the help of an expert chef.

abdabd222222

2. Greece – As you explore the picturesque Cretan countryside, you’ll get the chance to learn from a shepherd how to make your own cheese pie with honey. In Arolithos, learn how to make your own tsaziki dip, made of a spicy yogurt mixed with cucumbers. You’ll also get to enjoy Greece’s famous moussaka in Delphi, which is an eggplant/potato dish that was part of the Ottoman Empire cuisine.

3.) South Africa – In Stellenbosch, the heart of Cape Dutch wine country, it’s time to roll up your sleeves for an interactive pastry making class hosted by the renowned Institute of Culinary Arts. Learn to prepare Koeksuster, an Afrikaans pastry akin to deep-fried fritters dipped in orange-scented syrup. Then devour your fresh creations as you sip Rooibos tea – a famous Afrikaans combination!

abdabd333333

4. Nashville – Our newest Long Weekend itinerary, Nashville, brings together the best of Southern cuisine and country music history. Here you’ll have the chance to create your own BBQ sauce to take home! You’ll also get to try your hand at making fluffy, buttery biscuits, a true Southern staple.

abdabd444444

5. Germany – Explore the storybook splendor in Germany as you taste your way around castles fit for a royal family. Raise your stein to beer tastings at a local brewery, then put your own twist on rolling and shaping your own fresh pretzel creation at the Striffler Bakery in Rothenburg. The city’s oldest bakery, Striffler’s has been making their famous pretzels since 1644!

I don’t know about you, but talking about all this amazing food is making me hungry! Check out AdventuresbyDisney.com for even more ways to tantalize your taste buds.
