ESPN Zone Cast Member Plays Dad and Colleague to Three Daughters

posted on June 12th, 2014 by Kevin Rafferty, Jr., Communications Specialist, Disneyland Resort

Creating guest memories is a family affair for many Disneyland Resort cast members, and among these are inspirational dads who lead their families at home and work. With Father’s Day around the corner, now is a great time to introduce you to the Hernandez family!

EZF059697

When Shaleena Hernandez, a server at ESPN Zone, needs someone to talk to, she turns to her father, and doesn’t have to go far. Richard Hernandez also works at the Downtown Disney District restaurant — as do his other two children, Jessica and Briana. And would you believe Shaleena’s and Jessica’s fiancées also both work at ESPN Zone? They do!

Richard values the time he spends with his daughters and future sons-in-law on and off the clock. “Being together is great,” said Richard. “I have always enjoyed working at the Disneyland Resort because of my supportive co-workers, and now it’s extra special because I get to also work with my daughters.”

Shaleena, Jessica and Briana attribute their work ethic to their dad. “Working with my dad allows me to spend time with him and see his hard work,” Jessica said. “I love my dad, and we hope he enjoys his day off on Father’s Day.”

I adore Alex and Ani bangles from Disney Parks! Curious as to what Alex and Ani is all about? Before I started collecting them, I was too.

Carolyn Rafaelian, Founder, Creative Director and Chief Executive Officer of Alex and Ani, hails from a family of jewelers where mastering their craft was not only an aspiration, but a family tradition. For more than 10 years, the lifestyle company, named after her first two daughters, has helped spread positive energy across the globe with its hand-crafted, eco-conscious and Made in America products. The Alex and Ani Disney Collection, featuring signature expandable (yes, they are adjustable for the perfect fit) wire bangles with Disney icons and characters are truly the perfect combination of pixie dust and positive energy.

How could the collection, currently made up of more than eight different Disney symbols, birthstones and initials, get any better? Perhaps something to complement the Disneyland park Sleeping Beauty Castle and Magic Kingdom Park Cinderella Castle bangles? New bangles with signature icon charms inspired by Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios will debut at Walt Disney World Resort beginning June 5. Joining that list in late June is Mickey’s Fun Wheel from Disney California Adventure park.

June’s Gourmet Apple is a Sundae Surprise at Disneyland Resort

posted on May 30th, 2014 by Michelle Harker, Manager, Merchandise Marketing & Communications, Disneyland Resort

There’s no split decision when it comes to the gourmet apple for June at Disneyland Resort. Why? Because it was actually inspired by a banana split.

JBS096042

How did they do it? I’ve got the scoop! The apple has been covered in caramel, enrobed with banana flavor-infused chocolate, rolled in chocolate chips, drizzled with dark chocolate and has been topped off with mini marshmallows and dollops of vanilla white chocolate. Finally, you can’t have a banana split without chopped roasted peanuts and of course, cherries on top!

When I first heard what our Candy Makers had up their sleeves for June, all I could think was, “this apple is going taste like a sundae on a stick,” while my dear friend and fellow Disney Parks Blog author Tyler Slater professed, “I need it in my life.” As you can tell, we are clearly both fans of this sundae-inspired concoction.

Find it beginning June 1 at Candy Palace in Disneyland park, Trolley Treats in Disney California Adventure park and Marceline’s Confectionery in the Downtown Disney District.

Simply put, it’s delicious!

Rock Your Disney Side With Special Merchandise at the Disneyland Resort

posted on May 20th, 2014 by Michelle Harker, Manager, Merchandise Marketing & Communications, Disneyland Resort

Have you figured out how you’re going to Rock Your Disney Side for 24 hours? I know that my friend and fellow Disney Parks Blog author Steven Miller gave you a look at the Rock Your Disney Side 24-hour event merchandise earlier today, which may help you decide. However, I have a few more tips for those of you planning to visit Disneyland Resort, so let’s get ready to party!

My costume options for the party might be a bit more subtle than Steven’s, but I think you would agree that I found the perfect fit.

RYM078757

Joining us at Disneyland Resort? Here are a few more things you won’t want to miss!

If you are looking to take something home to remember this rockin’ party, be sure to check out the special artist sketches debuting May 23 at the Disneyana Shop in Disneyland park, Off the Page in Disney California Adventure park and WonderGround Gallery in the Downtown Disney District. The two new sketches feature some of our most beloved Disney heroes and villains, like Scar and Simba & Maleficent and Briar Rose. Which one did I choose? I guess you could say, I kept with the theme.

Special Tip: Our artists will be on hand to personalize the sketch for you.

RYM078758

Finally, a couple of wickedly cool treats will surely cast a spell on your taste buds. Created by our team of candy makers, you will find a Maleficent-inspired apple, krispy treat, cake pop and of course the cupcake Steven mentioned earlier. How’d they do it? Magic of course! I will tell you that the apple is very tempting, but I can only tease you with that for now. Be sure to keep an eye out for these spellbinding sweets, beginning May 23. Where can you find them? Try Candy Palace in Disneyland park, Trolley Treats in Disney California Adventure park or Marceline’s Confectionery in the Downtown Disney District.

I can’t wait to see how you Rock Your Disney Side. Steven – I say why stop at one costume? I’m sure the Disney fans will agree with me that we are all anxious to see what you choose.

I’m ready to rock my Disney Side. Are you?

What’s the best way to beat the heat and quench your thirst when visiting Disneyland Resort? I have two words for you! Goofy’s Glaciers!

GGC749428

These ever-popular drinks, available in a 16 oz. or two different souvenir cups, have previously only been found at Walt Disney World Resort. However, these frozen treats have now made their debut in locations here at the Disneyland Resort.

I know what you’re thinking … “What flavors are available? Where can find them?” I dare you to tantalize your taste buds with a Cherry flavor which is available at Trolley Treats in Disney California Adventure park or at Marceline’s Confectionery in the Downtown Disney District. But if it’s Blue Raspberry you seek, you’ll find it at Pooh Corner in Disneyland park.

As you can see, I convinced my partners in crime and fellow Disney Parks Blog authors, Erin Glover and Tyler Slater to join me in a taste test. Which one did we try? Blue Raspberry of course!

Tiki, Tiki, Tiki, Tiki, Tiki Room Shirts Coming to Disney Parks Online Store From May 12-15, 2014

posted on May 12th, 2014 by Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager

tii396121

If you have read some of my previous Disney Parks Blog stories, you’ll know that I adore Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room. I consider it my favorite attraction at Disney Parks. Today, I’m delighted to share that the next two Disney Parks’ attraction poster T-shirts will feature Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room from Disneyland park and the Tropical Serenade from Magic Kingdom Park. These shirts will be sold only on the Disney Parks online store from May 12-15, 2014 at http://www.DisneyStore.com/ParkEvents.

tii476322

Once again, the talented Disney Design Group artist Richard Terpstra designed these shirts based on the original attraction posters created by Paul Hartley in 1963 and 1971 respectively. I couldn’t resist a visit to Magic Kingdom Park to get a picture in front of the attraction while enjoying a Citrus Swirl (is this really called work?).

tii367003

Before I devoured that Citrus Swirl, I captured this image of it with an Orange Bird figurine that is coming to Disney Centerpiece at the Marketplace Co-Op in Downtown Disney Marketplace. Guests at Disneyland Resort may be able to find this figurine and a few other Orange Bird things now at World of Disney in Downtown Disney District.

tii356884

I also photographed this trinket box that shaped like my favorite frozen treat from Disney Parks. The box is part of the Adventureland collection also coming to Disney Centerpiece location. Guests visiting Disneyland Resort may now find select items from this collection at Adventureland Bazaar in Disneyland park and World of Disney at Downtown Disney District. We also have a few items from this collection currently online.

Aloha!
