Show Your Disney Side with New Spring 2014 Apparel for Women and Girls at Disney Parks

posted on February 5th, 2014 by Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager

MCT983652

There are two times during the year that our Disney Theme Park Merchandise team introduces new apparel at Disney Parks – spring and fall. Since the spring items can be set as early as February, I contacted the softlines team for an update. They shared with me a few new items for women and girls that I thought would be perfect for showing off your Disney Side at Disney Parks.

MCT983653

The first program is based on the new Mickey Mouse cartoon shorts that were recently introduced on the Disney Channel and on Disney.com. I love the animated style and humor of these new Mickey Mouse cartoons especially “Potatoland,” “Tokyo Go” and “Croissant de Triomphe.” The four new women’s T-shirts feature Mickey Mouse and friends drawn in that same cartoon style. My favorite T-shirt has Minnie Mouse on the front of the shirt kissing Mickey Mouse who is found on the back.

In California, look for these T-shirts at World of Disney in Downtown Disney District, Gone Hollywood at Disney California Adventure park, and Disney Clothiers in Disneyland park.

For guests in Florida, look for the T-shirts at World of Disney in Downtown Disney Marketplace, Mouse Gear at Epcot, and Emporium at Magic Kingdom Park.

MCT983654

The softlines team also shared with me four new Minnie Mouse T-shirts coming soon to Disney Parks. They are part of a new art program called “Beyond the Dot” which contains a host of fresh, fashion-forward designs and original illustrations by Disney Design Group artists. These four women’s T-shirts are some of the first from that program. Look for additional styles in the coming months that feature Minnie Mouse in a whole new way.

MCT983655

For girls, the softlines team is introducing four T-shirts that feature classic couples like Ariel and Prince Eric, or Rapunzel and Flynn Rider. They said these T-shirts are test items as they have never really featured couples like this before on girls’ apparel.

The girls’ T-shirts and the “Beyond the Dot” items will be carried in select locations at both Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort. There are no immediate plans to carry these items on the Disney Parks online store.

Valentine’s Day Merchandise Gift Guide for Disneyland Resort

posted on February 3rd, 2014 by Michelle Harker, Manager, Merchandise Marketing & Communications, Disneyland Resort

Are you bringing your Valentine to Disneyland Resort? If you are still in search for the perfect gift, here are a couple of ideas and tips that you might want to consider to add a touch of Disney magic to the special day.

I’m a jewelry girl – there’s no denying that. A pick that might win the heart of the one you love is with our Alex & Ani bracelets. Charm them with one of the many selections you can add. I personally have one charm that has my initial on it and the other says Disneyland, with Sleeping Beauty Castle. Find them at select locations throughout Disneyland Resort, including New Century Jewelry in Disneyland park.

Looking for something to frame up your relationship? Visit our Silhouette Studio on Main Street, U.S.A., at Disneyland park and let our talented team of Silhouette artists help! Did you know that our artists can actually create a silhouette in approximately 60 seconds? Per portrait, of course.

If the key to their heart is through delicious sweets and treats, here’s what you need to get. Being introduce for a limited time, now through February 16 is a dark chocolate peppermint-infused heart. You’ll find this amazing new treat and other Valentine’s Day-inspired sweets at candy locations throughout Disneyland Resort.

Looking for something ‘scent’sational? World-renowned fragrances, including the newest Disney exclusive, Hypnotic Poison eau Secrete are available now at Mlle. Antoinette’s Parfumerie in New Orleans Square. Special Tip: Have the fragrance bottle hand-painted by artist Pam Smith, February 8, 13, 14 and 15.

Have you met your Prince Charming but can’t decide what to get him? I would definitely recommend making a pit stop in Cars Land to check out some of our nostalgic and authentic gear. Not his speed? No problem. Look for some of today’s top brands in headwear, T-shirts and more at Elias & Company in Disney California Adventure park; Disney Vault 28 and D Street in the Downtown Disney District.

Last but not least, treat them to something special with the latest collections from Beautifully Disney available at select locations throughout Disneyland Resort, including Disney Vault 28 in the Downtown Disney District; Disney Clothiers in Disneyland park; and Elias & Company in Disney California Adventure park.

I hope some of these tips will help you find what you are looking for? Is there anything special you’ve found at the Disneyland Resort?

Mechanical Kingdoms ~ Steam-Driven Visions of a Victorian Future Art to Debut at Disney Parks

posted on January 29th, 2014 by Michelle Harker, Manager, Merchandise Marketing & Communications, Disneyland Resort

Steampunk and Disney fans alike, this one’s for you! On February 22, The Disney Gallery at Disneyland park will unveil a new exhibit titled Mechanical Kingdoms ~ Steam-Driven Visions of a Victorian Future.

Steampunk, a subgenre of science fiction loosely built around retro-futuristic visions of a steam-powered society, has been gaining (pardon the pun) steam over the past several years. The movement, which is expressed culturally and stylistically in everything from technology and design to music and fashion, was dubbed steampunk in the late 1980s. Though certainly not part of the steampunk “wave” (at least not consciously), Walt Disney Imagineers have been creating their own visions and versions of retro-futuristic technologies since well before that time, incorporating them into Disney Parks and attractions around the world.

SPM1109721

Mechanical Kingdoms ~ Steam-Driven Visions of a Victorian Future features conceptual designs and ideas for an array of inventive vehicles, machines and gadgets. The collection also shares some of the same inspirations as steampunk – most prominently a fascination with the extravagantly inventive visions of tomorrow expressed by such Victorian futurists as Jules Verne and H.G. Wells. So don your petticoats and bustles or your suits and old military storm coats, pull on your brass goggles and get ready for an adventure that takes us forward into the past, as seen through the eyes of Disney artists and designers.

Here’s one piece that was actually done in collaboration with several of the artists, and for me, kind of tells the story of Steampunk and what you can expect to see.

SPM1109722

Of course, it was hard to pick one piece of art to show you, so I convinced the team to let me show you at least one piece from each artist. Take a look!

If you are a fan of Steampunk then mark your calendar now, because as part of the Steampunk launch, we will host artist signings at Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort.

Disneyland Resort:
Meet artists Dave Avanzino, Jim Crouch, Jeremy Fulton, Brian Kesinger, Noah, Mark Page, Michael Peraza and Javier Soto from 9 – 11 a.m. at Disneyana.

Walt Disney World Resort:
Disney Design Group artists, Costa Alavezos, Alex Maher and Mike Sullivan will appear from 2-5p.m. at Art of Disney in Downtown Disney Marketplace.

For event information and to see more images being released as part of the events, visit the event section of www.DisneyParksMerchandise.com.

Sights & Sounds of Disney Parks: Disney’s ‘Frozen Sing-Along’ comes to Downtown Disney

posted on January 29th, 2014 by Greg Ehrbar, Writer/Author, Disney's Yellow Shoes Creative Group

What’s even better than watching a hit Disney animated musical? Being part of the music, magic and fun yourself!

This Friday, January 31, enchanted snowflakes will be bouncing over the words to every song so everyone can join in Disney’s “Frozen Sing-Along.” This special event will take place both at the AMC Downtown Disney 12 Theatres at Disneyland Resort in California, and the AMC Downtown Disney with Dine-In Theatres at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.

Of course, you may not need the snowflakes or the lyrics yourself, because you and the gang have already memorized the soundtrack album! Chances are you won’t be alone. The songs have a lot of fans. There’s nothing like the shared elation and energy of a joyous group gathered to sing their favorite songs as they experience a great musical on the big screen.

“Naturally, I’m a music guy, so I firmly believe that songs and music are at the heart of Disney just as animation, fantasy and theme parks are as well,” said Chris Montan, President of Walt Disney Music, told us. “And it’s true, when you love a song the way people love a Disney song, the words and music take on a life of their own. They live deep inside us and become part of that ‘great music mix’ inside our heads.”

Chris is referring to what I like to call the “mp-ME player.” It’s the cool part of the brain that acts just like a radio tuner and can play our favorites at will. (Seriously, I’ve got dozens of entire record albums cued up on my mp-ME player for when I’m swimming laps, driving in traffic or just need a quick pick-me-up on a busy day.) I’ve got great new mp-ME’s to upload into my head thanks to “Frozen.”

And “Frozen” isn’t just any animated musical, it’s become the biggest Disney animated film phenom of the century. “Frozen” has just become the highest grossing original animated film in history, and the soundtrack album hit Billboard’s number one spot.

“We always have high hopes for all of our new film music, but ultimately the public decides what to embrace,” said Chris. “But even we were bowled over by the response to “Frozen” — as a musical and as a film. Now kids have even more wonderful songs to grow up with, and grownups have new gems to place alongside their other “Best of Disney” favorites.”

All this musical success couldn’t happen to a nicer couple. Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez are relishing the glitz and excitement of having a smash Disney musical feature — and they’re especially glad to share these moments with their two young daughters, Anna and Katie (who add their talents to the film). Plus, in addition to the “Frozen Sing-Along,” there’s serious talk of a Broadway stage production of “Frozen.”

Oh, and then there’s a little thing called the Academy Awards. If you’re like us, you’ll be on the edge of your seat, rooting for the Lopez’s “Let It Go” to win the Oscar for Best Original Song! (Inside joke: Bobby and Kristen like to call their friend Chris “Gandalf’,” because he’s such a mysterious, wandering being of untold wisdom.)

No matter how any of the ol’ awards turn out, the Lopez family, and all of us, are the real winners, rich with the treasure of great new Disney music that will go on to delight generations to come.

Tickets are on sale now for Disney’s “Frozen Sing-Along” at AMC Theatres box offices and at your favorite movie ticket site.

Hear Ye! Hear Ye! February’s Black Forest Gourmet Apple is Fit for the Kingdom at Disneyland Resort!

posted on January 27th, 2014 by Michelle Harker, Manager, Merchandise Marketing & Communications, Disneyland Resort

Most fairy tales that we’re familiar with have far off kingdoms, royal families and, in the far off corner, some type of black forest that strikes fear in the hearts of the villagers everywhere. Rest assured there is nothing to fear with what I am about to show you. For the month of February, our Disneyland Resort Candy Makers have whipped up something fit for a royal family – a Black Forest apple. Even just at the site of it, without even tasting it, there wasn’t an ounce of doubt in my mind that it was the perfect addition to the gourmet apples series that you have come to know and love.

ALD837198

Imagine taking the essential flavors of a black forest cake and re-imagining it onto a caramel apple. Should I go on? The tart green apple is covered in creamy caramel, lost in a forest of dark chocolate and roasted almonds and adorned with sweet Maraschino cherries. How do you top that? Well I asked that same question, and of course, their answer was… ‘easy.’ ‘To top it off, this decadent confection is drizzled in sweet milk chocolate and crowned with additional cherries.’ Say it with me now… Yum!

Will you try this enchanting new gourmet apple? Look for it beginning February 1 at Candy Palace on Main Street, U.S.A., in Disneyland park; Trolley Treats on Buena Vista Street in Disney California Adventure park; and Marceline’s Confectionery in the Downtown Disney District!

First Look at the Beautifully Disney Pop of Minnie Collection at Disney Parks

posted on January 17th, 2014 by Michelle Harker, Manager, Merchandise Marketing & Communications, Disneyland Resort

A homage to Mickey Mouse’s leading lady, the fifth collection from Beautifully Disney arrives at Disney Parks on February 8 and features our style icon Minnie Mouse. Channeling the vibrancy and mix of patterns of 1960’s Mod pop art, this line is all about adding color to classic looks that can change your appearance in an instant depending on your mood. Every detail of this collection, down to the pop art inspired packaging, puts a fun twist on a quintessential look. So whether you decide to channel Minnie’s flirty girly side, the glam fashionista or just want to show some serious sass, we have you covered. Let’s take a look!

BDU874521

Pop of Minnie brings splashes of color to the current line of Beautifully Disney products including eye shadow, nail polish and lip gloss that you’ve come to know and love. The eye palette features six new shades Downtown Mouse, A la Mode, Polka, I’m Seeing Dots, Oh My Bow! and Fa-Bow-Lous with which you can create countless looks.

You will also find four brand new nail colors available both individually and in a mini nail polish set. I had some fun with these new colors, and so did my colleague and friend Rachel Brent, as you are about to see.

BDU874522

Pop of Minnie also introduces four new lip gloss shades that provide sheer coverage and are definitely colorful, wearable, lightweight and moisturizing. Here’s a closer look!

BDU874523

For the first time, the collection will also offer a four piece set of mini lipsticks that are creamy, pigmented and pair perfectly with any lip gloss – the colors look great on all skin tones!

You can also look for brand new accessories to launch with the line – including an eyelash curler and brush set. There is also my personal favorite—the emery boards, a perfectly stylish way to keep your manicure in top shape. And to store all your accessories, be sure to check out the marvelously Minnie-inspired polka dot cosmetic bag.

Keep Warm and Look Cool at the Disneyland Resort

posted on January 14th, 2014 by Michelle Harker, Manager, Merchandise Marketing & Communications, Disneyland Resort

For all of you Disney fans here in California, you are probably like me and are sometimes at a loss of what to wear. The calendar says winter is officially here and yet, it’s definitely ringing true to a California winter! In my experience, that feels more like a cross between spring and summer. However you know that it cools down quite a bit at night and that winter chill slowly creeps up on you and before you know it … you’re cold. So how can you plan on keeping warm but still look cool while visiting the Disneyland Resort or while watching some of our nighttime parades and spectaculars? It’s easy… here are a few top choices and quick tips.

Consider what we call the Disneyland 55 Authentic hooded jacket which comes in navy blue and charcoal grey. The navy blue one features Mickey Mouse on the back, while the charcoal grey features Grumpy. Look for them at Disney Clothiers and Emporium on Main Street, U.S.A. in Disneyland park; World of Disney in the Downtown Disney District; and Elias & Co. in Disney California Adventure park.

wff463621

Another way to stay warm and cozy is to snuggle up with one of our fleece throws. I especially like the design featuring Snow Car, available at Radiator Springs Curios and the Radiator Springs Racers throw which features elements, icons, and characters from the attraction, and is available now at Ramone’s House of Body Art and Sarge’s Surplus Hut.

wft261632

Quick Tip: Purchase this Disneyland Throw for only $19.95 when you spend $40 (before tax, after discount) or more in merchandise at participating Disneyland Resort locations. Check it out!

wwd637223

The special offer is taking place right now at locations throughout the Disneyland Resort including Disney Showcase, Emporium, Gag Factory, Pioneer Mercantile and Star Trader in Disneyland park; Gone Hollywood and Oswald’s in Disney California Adventure park; and World of Disney Store in the Downtown Disney District as well as Disneyland Resort Hotel stores.

If you are looking for something that is more your cup of tea, maybe this will work. Plan on taking home some of our Disney Wonderland Tea. It’s the ‘Official Unbirthday Tea’ you can enjoy all year round. Enjoy flavors like Earl Grey, Lemon Chamomile, Blueberry, Mad Tea Party Blend, Mango and Pomegranate.

ttt938234

Hot cocoa is more my speed, so if you’re lucky enough to come across some, be sure to add it to the mix.

Quick Tip: Remember to use your Disneyland Resort Annual Passholder merchandise discount whenever applicable.

Are there any jackets, throws, or accessories that top your list or you never leave home without while braving the cold?

Fan Selected Artwork for 2014 Merchandise Arrives at Disney Parks Starting December 22, 2013

posted on December 20th, 2013 by Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager

NFA837627

As part of “Limited Time Magic” this week, I’m happy to share that merchandise featuring artwork selected by Disney fans earlier this year will be arriving at Disney Parks starting December 22, 2013.

In January, my fellow author Tom Smith shared three pieces of 2014 art for a new, small line of merchandise offerings for Disney Parks. Many fans voted for their favorite art design on the Disney Parks Blog or the official Facebook pages for Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts. After votes were tallied, I revealed the winning design in this video interview with Patty Landing, Creative Manager with Disney Design Group.

As a celebration of the final “Limited Time Magic” surprise of the year, we will offer an early debut of some of the 2014 dated items, including an adult T-shirt, ladies T-shirt, D-Tech cases for the iPhone 4/4S or iPhone 5/5S, as well as mug and a timepiece that feature the new artwork!

NFA837628

Look for these items beginning December 22 (while supplies last) at either the World of Disney Store in the Downtown Disney Marketplace at Walt Disney World Resort, or at the World of Disney Store in the Downtown Disney District at Disneyland Resort.

NFA837629

From December 27, 2013 through January 9, 2014, we will be carrying a limited number of items on the Disney Parks online store. A special deluxe print (as seen in the first image of this story) will be available online only. All online sales orders will be fulfilled within 6-8 weeks.
