Marvelous New Merchandise Debuts at Disney Parks

posted on March 24th, 2014 by Michelle Harker, Manager, Merchandise Marketing & Communications, Disneyland Resort

Some days do you feel like you are a superhero with the things you have accomplished? I know I do, or at least have some sort of special powers. I’m a pretty big fan of our Avengers films so you can only imagine my excitement for the upcoming release of “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” and especially the meet and greet opportunity taking place now at Disneyland park.

Are you looking for ways to update your super hero collection? Here are a few things you might want to consider checking out or picking up.

First and foremost, keep an eye out for the dated Opening Day Limited Edition 2000 ‘shield’-inspired pin, which opens to reveal the first Avenger. The pin will debut this April and will be available at pin purchasing locations. Also being released are specially created D-Tech iPhone 4 and 5 cases which are bound to make your phone ‘super’ cool. Look for the D-tech cases to appear in late-Spring.

Also available are ‘shield’ inspired T-shirts for adults and kids, a woman’s tank, as well as a boys rashguard T-shirt and swim trunks.

But wait, there’s more! You will also find an array of other themed merchandise including a mug, keychain, sticker, magnets, four button set, books and toys as well as matted prints and limited edition giclees.

Over the next month, continue to watch as product hits the shelves in our merchandise locations. You’ll find it at:

Disneyland Resort, Anaheim, CA

Downtown Disney Area, Lake Buena Vista, FL

Special Note: A limited selection of merchandise will be available aboard Disney Cruise Line.

Will you assemble for this new merchandise?

The History of the Disneyland Monorail: Mark V, 1986-2008

posted on March 20th, 2014 by Erin Glover, Social Media Director, Disneyland Resort

I love when we can have a Disney Parks Blog series that spans both Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts, so many thanks to my fellow author, Nate Rasmussen, for the excellent story on the Mark IV Monorail. Today, we return to the Disneyland Resort to continue our look at the history of the Disneyland Monorail with the Mark V.

Disneyland Monorail - Submarine Voyage

The most recognizable difference with the Mark V, compared to its predecessor, the Mark III, was its look. Designed to resemble the Mark IV monorail at Walt Disney World Resort, this new model was white with an accent color stripe running along the side. The four different colored stripes along the Mark V Monorails were red, blue, orange and purple.

Another major difference was the new path the Disneyland Monorail would travel. In 1994, the path was diverted to run above the Eeyore section of the original Disneyland parking lot (remember that?) to accommodate the construction of Indiana Jones Adventure. Then in 1999, when construction began on Disney California Adventure park, Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa and the Downtown Disney District, portions of the track were re-routed to accommodate these additions.

The opening of the Downtown Disney District also provided an opportunity for a brand-new station to be constructed for the Disneyland Monorail. When the station opened in 2001, it provided a convenient second entrance to Disneyland park, which is still available for guests today.

Check back next month, when I hand the controls back to Nate Rasmussen, who will tell us about the Mark VI Monorail, which currently travels the “highway in the sky” at the Walt Disney World Resort.

Dark Chocolate Raspberry Gourmet Apple is a Definite Delight at Disneyland Park

posted on March 17th, 2014 by Michelle Harker, Manager, Merchandise Marketing & Communications, Disneyland Resort

I am always eager to find out the new type of gourmet apple the Disneyland Resort has in store each month. Why? Because the Disneyland Resort Candy Making team continues to amaze me with their magnificent concoctions. This month, prepare to be surprised and delighted as well!

April Raspberry Apple

So what is it? Wait no more … this month’s caramel apple has been covered in dark chocolate and has been encased with semi-sweet chocolate and white chocolate chips and almonds. At this point, I’m sure you’re saying… stop! You’re making me hungry! I have to have this now! Well, I’m not finished yet. They have actually taken one more step, and infused raspberry into white chocolate and drizzled it over the entire apple.

Where will you find it? Candy Palace in Disneyland park; Marceline’s Confectionery in the Downtown Disney District; and Trolley Treats in Disney California Adventure park.

For the record I call first dibs! Who’s joining me in line to try this apple?

Charming Treats for St. Patrick’s Day 2014 at Disney Parks

posted on March 15th, 2014 by Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager

SPT8361121

With St. Patrick’s Day celebrations planned for both Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts, I visited one of our consumables locations to survey some of the yummy, holiday-themed treats they have made this year. You may recall that several of our merchandise locations contain a show kitchen, which is an on-stage kitchen where cast members make delicious goodies for all to see. This year, the cast members in the show kitchens have added a splash of green to some of their most popular items including Mickey Mouse-shaped cake pops and crispy treats.

They also have created my favorite treat – pretzel rods covered in green sugar or sprinkles. The pretzel rods join sprinkle-covered or chocolate-dipped marshmallow wands.

Finally, I spotted a Leprechaun-like candy apply complete with chocolate, green sugar and a marshmallow. Nearby, I found a character apple that resembles Kermit the Frog from The Muppets. I figured I’d include him in this story because he’s green (plus, I can’t wait for “Muppets Most Wanted” to be in theatres on March 21!)

If you are visiting Disney Parks during St Patrick’s Day, please stop by these locations:

Saturday through Monday, you can put a jig in your step with special Downtown Disney District entertainment: The Molly Condon Irish Dance Company, and Irish hammer dulcimer musician Scott Williams.

And starting Friday, traditional Irish fare – corned beef and green beer – will be offered at several Downtown Disney District locations: Catal & Uva Bar, House of Blues, La Brea Bakery and Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen. ESPN Zone will offer green beer and a signature St. Patrick’s Day cocktail Friday through Monday, and will add corned beef and cabbage to the menu on Monday only.

Friday through Monday, Catal & Uva Bar will offer St. Patrick’s Day specialties such as Guinness Beer and Irish Cheddar dip, potato leek soup with Dubliner grilled cheese and whiskey-scented crème fraiche, Black and Tan battered fish and chips, corned beef on rye with Irish potato salad and whiskey bread pudding with stout gelato and Jameson crème anglaise. Uva Bar offers a Beer Special (Blue Moon Witbier with Bitter Truth Violet Liqueur) and Green Jello Shots in assorted flavors.

At House of Blues, it’s “Shamrock ‘n Roll” time. The VooDoo Lounge menu for the weekend through Monday features corned beef and cabbage, fish ‘n chips, and specials on Guinness, Jameson and green beer along with the traditional full menu.

La Brea Bakery will offer a special corned beef hash and eggs breakfast. Their lunch specials will include a Reuben on rye with corned beef, Swiss cheese and Thousand Island slaw, or a classic corned beef and cabbage dinner.

March’s Gourmet Apple at the Disneyland Resort is a Chocolate Delight

posted on February 24th, 2014 by Michelle Harker, Manager, Merchandise Marketing & Communications, Disneyland Resort

Every time I think that gourmet apples can’t get better, our Candy Makers at Disneyland Resort take it up another notch. What can you expect to find this March? How does a Triple Chocolate apple sound?

MGQ865332

Each apple has been dipped in creamy caramel and enrobed in sweet milk chocolate. What could possibly make it better? They’ve added a mixture of white and semi-sweet dark chocolate chips all around it and then topped it off with drizzles of white, milk and dark chocolate. It’s unbelievable!

You will no doubt delight in this amazing concoction, I hope you try it! Look for it at Candy Palace on Main Street, U.S.A., in Disneyland park; Trolley Treats on Buena Vista Street in Disney California Adventure park; and Marceline’s Confectionery in the Downtown Disney District.
