Holiday Goodies and Menu Changes in the Downtown Disney District at the Disneyland Resort

posted on December 16th, 2013 by Pam Brandon, Disney Parks Food Writer

From little joys of the season to big menu changes, here’s what’s new in the Downtown Disney District at the Disneyland Resort.
Downtown Disney District at the Disneyland Resort

A sweet seasonal treat that won’t be around much longer is the Eggnog Jubilee at Jamba Juice. We love it because it’s low-fat and only seems indulgent.

Other holidays goodies include special menus at Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen, Catal and Uva Bar and Café, plus a New Year’s Eve party at Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen.

Start with Catal, where you can enjoy three delicious courses for $32 (plus tax and gratuity) now through December 30 – except on December 25, when they will offer an extra-special prixe fixe menu. The three courses include a generous wedge salad, a 10-ounce prime rib with cheese mashed potatoes and warm apple cobbler or chocolate ganache cake for dessert. On December 25, the menu switches to three courses for $55 (plus tax and gratuity) starting with crispy lobster arancini (rice balls), followed by a savory braised lamb shank with winter squash risotto and bourbon chocolate pecan tart for dessert. A kids’ menu will be available on Christmas Day.

Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen has a special menu December 24-29, that includes New Orleans classics such as sweet potato-andouille bisque, tasso- and chestnut-stuffed Gulf shrimp and “turducken,” a boneless chicken stuffed inside a boneless duck stuffed inside a boneless turkey (if you haven’t tried, it’s a must).

Then, on New Year’s Eve, Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen will host the N’Awlins Masquerade bash, including a three-course dinner plus party hats, feathered masks and beads, and a Champagne toast. There will be live music and strolling jazz musicians, a complimentary photo booth and a balloon artist (kids are welcome). Cost is $99 (plus tax and gratuity), $20 for kids 10 and under.

Beyond the holidays, check out the new menu at Crossroads at House of Blues created by celebrity Chef Aarón Sanchez. Look for new dishes like his kicky Bolognese pasta with ground veal and pork. Don’t worry – the Juicy Lucy stays on the menu. House of Blues has also amped up its craft beer menu with nearly three dozen unique brews, many in limited quantities.

Also beyond the holidays, look for the next new burger and beer of the month at Uva Bar and Café – this month, it’s a tuna burger with ginger-spiced fries, and crisp Cismontane “The Citizen” craft beer from Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.

Which holiday treats and new menu items will you be trying at the Downtown Disney District?

January Brings a New Gourmet Apple Treat Your Way at Disneyland Resort

posted on December 12th, 2013 by Michelle Harker, Manager, Merchandise Marketing & Communications, Disneyland Resort

For those of you who love our delicious and oh-so-sweet gourmet apples, here is a new one to add to your list during your visit to Disneyland Resort!

I have no doubt in my mind that this is going to be by far one of the most popular apples around. Yes, I’ll admit, I got a sneak preview and taste test of this one. When it comes to combining apples, caramel, peanut butter and chocolate cookie sandwiches, the only question I have is, where do I line up?

Yes, you read that right! This particular apple has been covered in caramel, rolled in crushed chocolate sandwich cookies and drizzled with peanut butter. The one word I can use to describe it … perfection! It could be because I’m a fan of each of those elements, but I’m telling you right now, you haven’t tasted anything like this. Take a look!

JGA973611

Look for it beginning January 1 at Candy Palace on Main Street, U.S.A., in Disneyland park; Trolley Treats on Buena Vista Street in Disney California Adventure park; and Marceline’s Confectionery in the Downtown Disney District. Are you ready? Or do you have a different favorite gourmet apple?

VIDEO: Olaf’s Frozen Ice Rink in the Downtown Disney District at the Disneyland Resort

posted on December 10th, 2013 by Shannon Swanson, Public Relations Manager, Disneyland Resort

As John McClintock recently reported, the Downtown Disney District at the Disneyland Resort has transformed into a winter wonderland with Olaf’s Frozen Ice Rink. Although it was a warm, sunny day in November when we shot the video below, it felt like we were in a snowy village as guests of all ages made their way, some faster than others, around the Christmas tree in the center of the ice.

Olaf’s Frozen Ice Rink is open 3 – 10:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 3 – 11:30 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday, through January 11, 2014.

Beautifully Disney’s Fantasy in Flight Debuting at Disney Parks

posted on November 7th, 2013 by Michelle Harker, Manager, Merchandise Marketing & Communications, Disneyland Resort

Dazzle those around you this holiday season with a shimmering new collection from Beautifully Disney titled Fantasy in Flight! Granting your wish for a party perfect color palette, this collection sparkles with imagination. Look for lip glosses, nail polishes, a mini nail polish set, eye shadow palette and more beginning November 23! Here’s your first look at the art for Fantasy in Flight, plus details on what you can expect.

ffa287616SMALL

Geared for the holidays, here are a few tips on things I discovered about the new Fantasy in Flight collection that I think may help you choose your very own Disney Side of Beautifully Disney.

Extraordinary holographic glitter polishes in ethereal tones like Wish Come True and Spriteful are completely hypnotic. You’ll also find that the warm yet festive color of Something Sassy will add texture to your look, while the glittering red will not only make you star struck but will definitely make a statement.

I know that many of you have tried the lip gloss from some of our other collections, which means you know how easy it glides on and how long it lasts. For a demure yet eye catching look, Star Glow is the pick for me. It’s soft, yet a shimmery pink. For something a bit bolder with more of an attention grabbing effect, I would recommend Pouty Pixie. It’s just the right amount of red sparkle, with a dash of sass.

If you’re curious about the eye shadow palette, here’s what I can tell you. The six shimmering shades feature a mix of soft neutrals with subtle pops of color that will make it easy to build and blend, giving you the opportunity to create an array of dazzling looks no matter what the occasion.

I have more exciting news to share! Debuting for the first time under the Beautifully Disney collection are two very versatile highly wearable powder blushes, Satin Peach and Dreamy Pink. Could it get any better? It just did. Also being introduced is a beautiful black mascara that when applied in a single sweep creates a playful and casual look, or with a few additional coats, can create defining, dramatic lashes.

Join us November 23 as we launch the new Fantasy in Flight collection at Disney Vault 28 in the Downtown Disney District. We’re working on a few special opportunities at Disney Vault 28 between 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. and I will be posting those in the comment section as details come in, so be sure to check back here and visit www.artofdisneyparks.com. A special Beautifully Disney launch event will take place the same day at Tren-D in Downtown Disney Marketplace at the Walt Disney World Resort from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. with a special meet and greet opportunity with fashionista Isabella as well as mini-makeover stations.
