Summertime Update About Retail MagicBands and Accessories at Walt Disney World Resort

posted on August 7th, 2015 by Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager

As the “Coolest Summer Ever” continues at Walt Disney World Resort, I wanted to give you an update about several new retail MagicBands and accessories. These items are a great way to show your Disney Side during your vacation. Here is a look at some of my favorites.

The open edition retail MagicBands featuring Steamboat Willie and characters from Disney•Pixar’s “Finding Nemo” are currently available in select merchandise locations.

On August 14, we will release two additional open edition retail MagicBands. One will have Winnie the Pooh while the other will feature Jack Skellington from Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas.”

Open edition retail MagicBands have a retail of $19.95 each. Like all other retail MagicBands, these open edition items can be linked later making them great gifts.

At the beginning of the year, we released a retail MagicBand with an image of Cinderella Castle from Magic Kingdom Park. Later this month, we will have three additional open edition retail MagicBands for Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney’s Animal Kingdom. I’m thrilled to see Figment on the Epcot-themed MagicBand!

Some of the coolest MagicBand accessories I’ve seen are the attraction-themed MagicSliders. These small rectangular images easily slide onto the side of a MagicBand. They are a great way to either showcase your favorite Disney attractions or to keep track of which ones you’ve experienced.

There are three attraction sliders per MagicSlider pack. Look for three different packs of Magic Kingdom Park attractions, and two packs each for attractions at Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Each pack has a retail of $6.95.

Finally, we are now offering some of the Disney character MagicBands including Mickey Mouse, Goofy and Donald Duck on our Disney Parks online store. You can find them along with select MagicBand accessories by visiting this page.

#DisneyFamilia: Celebridades Enjoy Magical Vacations at Walt Disney World Resort

posted on August 5th, 2015 by Sarah Domenech, International Public Relations Manager

What do a soccer player, a rock star and an actress have in common? They know where to vacation with their families: Walt Disney World Resort!

Recently, we spotted the following celebrities enjoying time with their familias and taking a break from their busy schedules to visit our theme parks, where they took photos with their favorite Disney characters, rode iconic attractions and had lots of diversión (fun).

Fher, lead singer of the rock band Maná, visited Disney’s Animal Kingdom, su parque favorito en Disney (his favorite Disney theme park) and posed with Rafiki. Fher, director of the nature conservation organization Selva Negra, is the Spanish narrator of the Disneynature film “Planet Earth.”

Colombian soccer star Radamel Falcao García met Minnie Mouse at Magic Kingdom Park with his princesas (princesses): wife Lorelai and daughters Dominique and Desirée. The girls were crazy about meeting Minnie and they even wore the famous pink Minnie ears during the encuentro (encounter)!

Many won’t recognize the name of Carmen Sarahí, but they may have heard her voice plenty of times in the Latin-American version of “Frozen.” The singer and actress recently visited Walt Disney World Resort to enjoy all that Frozen Summer Fun offers to our guest. She even got to sing to Olaf, her favorite snowman!

VIDEO – Visiting Ice Palace Boutique at Disney’s Hollywood Studios for Frozen Summer Fun

posted on August 3rd, 2015 by Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager

A few weeks ago I shared details about the recently opened Ice Palace Boutique at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, a wintry salon where guests ages 3-12 can undergo a magical transformation, as they prepare for Coronation day during Frozen Summer Fun. In honor of National Sister’s Day yesterday, August 2, I thought it would be a perfect time to check out the “Frozen” fun with fellow teammate Katie Thompson.

Here are a few additional images I captured during our visit. The cupcakes in the Ice Palace Café were delicious!

The Ice Palace Boutique will only be offered during Frozen Summer Fun at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, which continues through September 7, 2015.

Reservations can be made in advance and are highly recommended. To book your appointment, please call 407-827-7400. Guests under 18 years of age must have parent or guardian permission to call. The location may be able to accommodate guests without reservations on a limited, first-come, first-serve basis each day.

#coolestsummer: Hollywood Cool

posted on July 31st, 2015 by Greg Ehrbar, Writer/Author, Disney's Yellow Shoes Creative Group

Disney’s Hollywood Studios seems to be getting more and more cool and exciting, thanks in no small part to its starry “Frozen-ality”. All of these are oh-so-very cool:

For The First Time In Forever: A Frozen Sing Along Celebration. Choose a row and move all the way down to the last available comfy, cushioned seat in the Hyperion Theater and watch the story highlights of Disney’s “Frozen” unfold through songs by Oscar winners Bobby Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez. (The words appear on the screen so everyone can sing). Princess Anna opens the show, presenting the Royal Historians of Arendelle, Eric and Aria (perhaps the funniest comedy duo since Stiller and Meara). Kristoff also takes the stage, as well as a certain frost-wielding Queen, bringing her own magical “snow” for your marveling pleasure.

Frozen Fever. During Frozen Summer Fun, you see this charming animated short “sequelette” to Disney’s “Frozen” on a big movie screen, and also get a behind-the-scenes look at the making of this gem, and a glimpse at the upcoming Walt Disney Animation Studios Short Films Collection. The upcoming Blu-ray release features twelve acclaimed animated masterpieces. Some of these shorts, like “Paperman,” “Get a Horse!” and “Tangled Ever After,” preceded Disney movies in theaters, plus a few that you might be seeing for the first time, like “Lorenzo” and “Tick Tock Tale.”

Voyage of The Little Mermaid. How perfect is this for getting out of the warmish and into the coolish? It’s as if the entire ocean enfolds the theater as a live-action version of highlights from Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” tell the story along with animation, lasers, special effects and that magnificent Alan Menken/Howard Ashman music. You’ll even see Ariel go from finned to footed before your eyes!

The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. This all-time great thrill attraction always lets you down, but in a fun, screamie way. But it’s also extremely cool because of its meticulously detailed setting of a classic old-Hollywood luxury hotel, now faded and creeped out. My favorite thing to do is to explore the library and pick out the items representing “Twilight Zone” TV episodes (the book, “To Serve Man”, the fortune telling machine, an envelope filled with recording tape with Rod Serling’s name on it, etc). You don’t have to go down the falling elevator to see the library; just ask a cast member how to use the detour in the boiler room.

Fantasmic! Mickey is the mighty hero of this nighttime superspectacular that takes place on a massive, mountainous stage surrounded by a river. The non-stop action, fantasy fountains and furious firebursts combine and build to an electrifying finale under the stars. There’s a lot of music, too – a boatload of great Disney tunes and lots of Disney Characters! Tip: Get a reserved VIP spot for Fantasmic! with this keen dining package.

New Look and Products Found in Rock Around the Shop at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

posted on July 30th, 2015 by Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager

Disney’s Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith celebrates another anniversary this week. This super fast attraction originally opened in 1999 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. I still recall my first ride with my father during that summer many years ago. Recently, I stopped by Rock Around the Shop, the merchandise location found at the attraction, to check out the latest rockin’ products.

Periodically, our location planning and merchandise presentation teams make adjustments to merchandise shops. There are a variety of reasons for these changes including testing new products or improving visual statements. The last time I wrote about this location was in April 2013 (see this Disney Parks Blog article). For this latest incarnation, gone are the giant “Rockin’ Gear” graphics which were replaced with images of audio speakers and other vibrant graphic patterns.

The shop also has a few new items not previously offered including an art gallery featuring the works of Jerrod Maruyama (I’m a big fan of his hipster Mickey art). There is also an expanded line of women’s apparel and accessories.

The shop still offers various Aerosmith and attraction T-shirts and accessories for women and men.

Finally, the location now carries headphones by SMS Audio, the official headphones of Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts.

Happy anniversary to my favorite super stretch limousine!

Disney Parks Blog Weekly Recap

posted on July 26th, 2015 by Thomas Smith, Social Media Director, Disney Parks

This week, we celebrated the anniversary of The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror on the Disney Parks Blog with images, stories, a tough quiz and a special wallpaper created just for readers.

In honor of the anniversary, Disney designer, Leo Cardoso took that love of old black & white spooky films and translated it into a cool new wallpaper featuring the attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Be sure to check out the terms of use about using the wallpaper before you download it.

We also continued our popular “Building the Dream: The Making of Disneyland Park” series with an attraction that debuted less than a week after Disneyland opened – Rocket to the Moon. The attraction allowed Disneyland park guests the chance to travel around the far side of moon and back in just 10 minutes – all without leaving Disneyland.

Flight to the Moon eventually became Mission to Mars, and today, Redd Rockett’s Pizza Port occupies the same “space” in Tomorrowland – complete with a tribute to the original Moonliner right out in front.
