Special Olympics World Games ‘Flame of Hope’ Journeys Through Disneyland Resort

posted on July 20th, 2015 by Kevin Rafferty, Jr., Communications Specialist, Disneyland Resort

Last night, the Disneyland Resort hosted the “Flame of Hope,” currently making its way through 127 cities and communities in California en route to the Special Olympics World Games opening ceremonies in Los Angeles on Saturday, July 25. The torch shined brightly even in the rain, and I was encouraged to see so many guests brave the weather to watch Special Olympics athletes carry the torch down Main Street, U.S.A. to a ceremony at the Downtown Disney District.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run Final Leg for the “Flame of Hope” represents the culmination of similar events around the world on its journey to the Special Olympics World Games. In May, the torch made its way to the Walt Disney World Resort during a Unified Relay Across America, going through Epcot and Disney’s BoardWalk Inn.

More than 30,000 volunteers, including Disney VoluntEARS, will support the Special Olympics World Games. ESPN is the official broadcast partner of the Games, and will be covering the Opening Ceremonies, plus sharing highlights throughout the event.

New Pins Debut for the Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration

posted on July 8th, 2015 by Michelle Harker, Manager, Merchandise Marketing & Communications, Disneyland Resort

It’s the summer of sparkle as part of the Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration! So what else do I have to dazzle you with? How about pins? Each month through September new limited edition pins from the Diamond Decades series honoring favorite attractions, characters and icons from past and present will debut. I asked Merchandiser Erin Catalano how the series of twenty-three Diamond Decades pins came about, here’s what she had to say.

“Our Disney Parks see constant change and evolution; we referred to a quote from Walt Disney stating, ‘Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world’ — that single quote sparked the idea for the entire collection.”

Available July 9 will be pins themed to Jungle Cruise, “Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln,” Sleeping Beauty Castle and Storybook Land Canal Boats. Note: Edition sizes on the Diamond Decades pins vary.

Releasing the same day will be the bi-monthly Disneyland Resort Annual Passholder pin themed to “Alice in Wonderland.” Check it out!

NAPP6464731

On July 16, the Diamond Decades collection continues to grow with limited edition pins themed to King Arthur Carrousel, Main Street, U.S.A., and the Mad Tea Party.

DLCLRP476843

Also being offered on July 16 is the final pin in the Countdown series – a limited release birthday collection logo pin, and a jumbo pin (edition size 1000).*

DLCLRP476844

Pins will be available to purchase on their release dates at the following locations:

*Tip: The Jumbo Pin will only be available to purchase at Little Green Men Store Command and Disney’s Pin Traders. The limited release birthday collection logo pin will also be available to purchase at additional locations other than those listed above, including Emporium and The Star Trader in Disneyland Park; Elias & Co. in Disney California Adventure park and World of Disney Store in the Downtown Disney District.

S’Mores Are a Treat This July at the Disneyland Resort

posted on June 29th, 2015 by Michelle Harker, Manager, Merchandise Marketing & Communications, Disneyland Resort

Fans of our S’mores gourmet apple, prepare yourselves – this summer is about to get even better as we “treat” you to a few other surprises from our candy kitchens at the Disneyland Resort! Our candy makers have come up with some new concoctions inspired by some of your favorite gourmet apple flavors. Joining the S’mores apple for the month of July will be a similarly themed (and tasty) marshmallow wand, crispy treat and bark.

cnbjsal431

The gourmet apple and marshmallow wand are dipped in caramel and milk chocolate, then carefully layered with graham crackers and toasted mini marshmallows. You’ll notice that the crispy treat is prepared almost identically, without the caramel. How could we possibly top all of that? With milk chocolate drizzle, of course!

Looking for something with a bit more “bark” than bite?

bdjklqe431222

The S’mores bark is made of milk chocolate and marshmallow, topped with graham cracker pieces as well as toasted mini marshmallows.

You won’t have to “camp out” to enjoy these new treats – look for them beginning July 1 at Candy Palace on Main Street, U.S.A., and Hunny Spot in Critter Country in Disneyland park; Trolley Treats in Disney California Adventure park; and Marceline’s Confectionery in the Downtown Disney District.

Which one will you try first?
