‘Stock Up’ on Good Cheer and Do Good at the Downtown Disney District at the Disneyland Resort

posted on November 25th, 2015 by Kevin Rafferty, Jr., Communications Specialist, Disneyland Resort

You know that feeling you get on Christmas morning when you discover your stocking filled with goodies? What if you could give that gift to someone AND make a difference for the children of Anaheim?

I stopped by The Stocking Project chalet in the Downtown Disney Winter Village and had that same feeling when I saw their handcrafted stockings, filled to the brim with gifts from Downtown Disney District businesses! As John mentioned last week, Working to Give is selling these one-of-a-kind gifts, stitched by local artisans. The best part is that all net proceeds from your $99 stocking purchase will benefit ACT Anaheim, which supports much-needed youth programs in our community.

The Downtown Disney Winter Village is open Monday–Thursday, 3–6 p.m.; Friday & Saturday, 2–11 p.m.; and Sunday, 2–10 p.m.

Don’t miss this opportunity to create some holiday magic … and give a gift that gives back to our community!

Digging Up Merchandise at Disney Parks for Disney•Pixar’s ‘The Good Dinosaur’

posted on November 20th, 2015 by Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager

This week, we are celebrating “Dino Week” in honor of the upcoming release of Disney-Pixar’sThe Good Dinosaur” which arrives in theaters on November 25. I recently visited the appropriately themed Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures in Dinoland, U.S.A. at Disney’s Animal Kingdom to survey merchandise being offered at Disney Parks for this film.

For the release of this film, we have a small assortment of toys and apparel for kids. Guests may also find adorable plush resembling Arlo the Apatosaurus and his unlikely human friend Spot. Look for them on an open edition two-pin set as well.

My favorite item is a kids’ zipper jacket that looks like the Tyrannosaurus Rex named Butch. I love the little arms that stick out from the front of the jacket.

In the mix, we included some toys created by our partners from the Disney Store.

Guests should also look for a limited release logo pin that opens to reveal an image of characters from the film.

Finally, we are hosting special signing events at Disney Parks this weekend.

For guests visiting Once Upon a Toy in Disney Springs Marketplace at Walt Disney World Resort, filmmakers, Pete Docter and Jerome Ranft will be appearing from 4:00-5:00 p.m. on November 21. Jay Ward will be appearing at the location from 4:00-5:00 p.m. on November 22. They will be meeting with fans and signing select Pixar-themed merchandise during their appearances.

At Disneyland Resort, Disney artists Joey Chou and Jerrod Maruyama will be on hand for a signing event on November 21 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at WonderGround Gallery in Downtown Disney District. You can see some of their artwork in the top image. This artwork will also be released in Florida this weekend.

You can find select items from “The Good Dinosaur” online at Select items may also be found using the free Shop Disney Parks mobile app.

Holidays at the Disneyland Resort brings even more opportunities for play, entertainment and holiday shopping to the Downtown Disney District in Anaheim.

Olaf, the summer-loving snowman from the blockbuster Disney animated motion picture, “Frozen,” returns to sunny California to reopen his Olaf’s Frozen Ice Rink in Downtown Disney District between ESPN Zone and Earl of Sandwich. The custom-designed, 50-by-90-foot rink features colorful “Frozen”-themed décor, holiday and “Frozen”-themed music and the figure of Olaf himself overseeing the fun.

The rink will be open Monday through Thursday from 3-10 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 2-11 p.m.; and Sunday from 2-10 p.m. Skates and helmets are provided with the admission fee.

As in holidays past at Downtown Disney District, the ice rink is surrounded by the Downtown Disney Winter Village, featuring chalets and carts offering a variety of holiday gift ideas, including Star Wars-themed items from World of Disney; magic, gags and novelties from Houdini’s Magic Shop; yo-yos and juggling kits from Duncan Yo-Yo; crystal art from Arribas Brothers; hot chocolate, snacks and desserts from Ghirardelli; personalized objects from You Name It; surfboard themed art are from Laguna Beach Surfboards; and personalized holiday ornaments from Ice-Land Workshop. A Working to Give/ACT Anaheim chalet will offer handmade holiday stockings with all proceeds going to Accelerate Change Together.

Downtown Disney District will also have a full lineup of special entertainment offerings for the holidays, including live performances by Holiday Carolers nightly December 4-25 and a 40s Jazz/Pop Vocal Group from December 25 through January 1. Appearances by Duncan Yo-Yo experts, and the Houdini Magic Shop Show are also on the schedule. Horse & Carriage rides will be offered November 27 through January 2.

And a special Downtown Disney District holiday tradition, Tuba Christmas, will take place at noon on Saturday, Dec. 19. No matter how you celebrate, Downtown Disney District will have something for you this holiday season.

Celebrate ‘The Good Dinosaur’ November 21 and 22 at Disney Springs and the Downtown Disney District

posted on November 11th, 2015 by Darcy Clark, Disney Springs Marketing Manager

In my family, the weekend after Thanksgiving always means leftover turkey sandwiches and at least one family outing to the latest big-screen flick. I’m already looking forward to the newest Disney•Pixar release: “The Good Dinosaur” which debuts in 3D nationwide on November 25th. And this year, the movie excitement actually starts the weekend before the film hits theatres, with “The Good Dinosaur Weekend” taking place at Disney Springs Marketplace in Florida and at the Downtown Disney District in California, across from Downtown Disney AMC 12.

On November 21 and 22, both locations will host a celebration with a live DJ and a Dinosaur Dance Party from 11am to 11pm. As the sun sets, meteor shower lighting effects will light up the night. Special décor, photo opportunities and giveaways will amp up the party. T-REX and Rainforest Café will also join in the dinosaur-themed fun – so I’d suggest fueling up at one of these restaurants before making your way to the family-friendly festivities.

“The Good Dinosaur Weekend” is part of Dino Week, happening November 14 – November 22 throughout the Walt Disney Company; be among the first to find out more about Dino Week when it kicks off this Saturday on The Good Dinosaur Facebook page and get to know the film’s lead character, Arlo the Apatosaurus, his unlikely human friend Spot, and all of the T-Rexes, Raptors, and Pterodactyls they meet along the way.

Stay tuned to The Disney Parks Blog for more information about “The Good Dinosaur Weekend” including details on signing events, special event merchandise and more!

First Look at the Disneyland Resort Holiday Magic ‘Decades’ Collection

posted on November 9th, 2015 by Michelle Harker, Manager, Merchandise Marketing & Communications, Disneyland Resort

Are you a fan of the Disneyland Resort Diamond CelebrationDecades” collection? If you’re like me, one of the most magical and favorite times of the year at Disneyland Resort is the holiday season. Since 1955, the magic of the holidays has brought joy, merriment, lots of cheer and lasting memories to guests of all ages. Here’s your first look at the new art debuting November 12 celebrating 60 years of Holiday Magic.

As you can see, this new piece features cherished holiday attractions, icons and characters throughout the resort. Look for this image on an array of merchandise items including an adult fleece, D-handled mug, set of two kitchen towels, deluxe print, ornament, pin and my personal favorite, (great as a serving dish or a cookie plate), the oval platter. Tip: Some items even feature the story of this particular piece on the back.

Find it beginning November 12 at Disney Showcase in Disneyland park; World of Disney Store in the Downtown Disney District; and Elias & Co. in Disney California Adventure park, among other select locations.

Will you add holiday cheer to your collection with this “Decades” piece?
