More Delicious Details for Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar, Opening This Fall at Downtown Disney

posted on August 11th, 2015 by Pam Brandon, Disney Parks Food Writer

With an aviation theme (Jock was Indy’s frequent pilot in the “Indiana Jones” films) and a primo waterfront location, Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar will feature food and drinks inspired by Jock’s globe-trotting to all continents – everything from a Hovito Mojito to Dr. Elsa’s She-Deviled Eggs. Details follow.

Guests will get a kick out of the salvaged equipment, spare airplane parts and mementos from Jock’s travels that decorate the 150-seat lounge located between Paradiso 37 and The BOATHOUSE restaurant. Outdoors, his old steamboat (now in dry dock) is a fun place for watching the sunset.

At the core of Walt Disney Imagineering is great storytelling: as the tale goes, Jock made a home at this waterfront property in the 1940s after discovering this charming little town while flying Indiana Jones over the Sunshine State in search of the elusive Fountain of Youth in 1938. As a member of the Society of Explorers and Adventurers, Jock often welcomed his globetrotting friends to his hangar for a drink and fun times.

Now Jock and Indy may be gone, but his legendary adventures live on at this exotic watering hole. And that’s what gives the place its charm – and a creative menu of adventurous tastes.

Along with beer and wine, start with clever cocktails such as Reggie’s Revenge and The Fountain of Youth featuring Florida vodkas; Hovito Mojito and The Bitter Barkeep with Peruvian Pisco; Anything Goes with an Asian spirit that packs a little heat; The Aviator’s Flight and The Scottish Professor, and that Cool-headed Monkey with African spirits.

Each of the small plates has a delicious twist, and they’re great for sharing. Dr. Elsa’s She-Deviled Eggs are brined in beet juice with lump crab filling. “Good” Dates feature goat cheese-stuffed dates with Marcona almonds and pickled veggies. Snack of Ra gives a taste of Africa with salads and dips served with injera (bread) and naan crisps. Tanis Tacos are filled with falafel, shredded lettuce and cucumber-tomato salad. The pretzels come with house-made mustard and beer-cheese fondue.

A little more substantial are the Rolling Boulder Sliders with three spice meatballs on mini-buns with yogurt sauce. Or Brody Brats, grilled bratwurst with mustard and pickled cabbage. Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar’s take on chicken wings features spicy Asian wings (called “Lao Che’s Revenge”). And “Squid! Why’d It Have to Be Squid” is fried calamari flatbread with spicy harissa.

Get ready for some very fun Disney moments at this new location coming to Downtown Disney!

Our Top 5 Walt Disney World Resort Favorites for National S’Mores Day Aug. 10

posted on August 10th, 2015 by Pam Brandon, Disney Parks Food Writer

Ah, summertime, the perfect excuse to celebrate the ultimate campfire dessert: delectable layers of crunchy graham crackers, warm chocolate and roasted marshmallows. In honor of National S’Mores Day on Aug. 10, we’ve chosen our Top 5 creative takes on this ooey, gooey treat.

puppup76538111

  1. Gibson’s S’mores Baked Alaska at The Boathouse, Disney Springs. This newcomer features a ginormous dessert – chocolate ice cream studded with marshmallows in a graham cracker crust, frosted with marshmallow cream. This hybrid sweet feeds a family of four. Or more.
  2. This one has a lot of fans – the Wagon Wheel Chocolate S’mores from Whispering Canyon Café with warm dark chocolate sauce and marshmallow gelato. If you prefer to sip your s’more, step next door for a S’mores Latte from Territory Lounge at Wilderness Lodge – a marshmallow-chocolate drink you can order hot or over ice.
  3. Campers are only steps from the Trail’s S’mores at Trail’s End at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort, a creation with warm chocolate cake, graham cracker crumbs and marshmallow gelato – but you can only get it at lunch. (Or make your own s’mores with supplies from Chuckwagon near the Meadow Swimming Hole around the campfire when the sun goes down.)
  4. The S’mores Chocolate Tarte from Captain’s Grille at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort takes a simple approach with a chocolate tart, graham cracker crust, a dab of marshmallow and chocolate sauce.
  5. Just for little ones, Savanna S’mores are a favorite on the kids’ menu at Sanaa at Kidani Village at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge: layers of chocolate pudding, marshmallow fluff and toasted graham crackers. Oh to be young again.

Share your favorite Disney s’more!

At the beginning of June, I announced a summer of new souvenirs at Disney Parks with a preview of decorative hand sanitizers. Now that the hand sanitizers are available in a variety of merchandise locations at Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts, here is a look at other new and upcoming items.

The D-Tech on Demand boutique inside the Marketplace Co-Op at Downtown Disney Marketplace recently made available two designs for fans of ABC’s hit television show “Once Upon a Time.” Guests can create and customize a case for the following mobile phones: iPhone 4/4S, iPhone 5/5S/5C, iPhone 6/6+, Samsung Galaxy SIII, Samsung Galaxy S4/S5/S6.

We are also offering a few pre-printed cases for the Samsung Galaxy S6 in select locations at Disney Parks.

One of my favorite things being released this month is a Vinylmation, Jr. set inspired by Adventureland. This limited release mystery set contains 12 figures featuring characters such as birds from Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room and, my all-time favorite, the Orange Bird. The set will be released at the D-Street locations in Florida and California starting August 7.

In the coming months, we will be releasing a variety of new key chains. The first three feature mini-handbags that double as coin pouches.

Live Entertainment Takes the Stage at Downtown Disney at Walt Disney World Resort

posted on July 30th, 2015 by Darcy Clark, Marketing Manager, Downtown Disney at Walt Disney World Resort

As Downtown Disney continues to transform into Disney Springs, shopping, dining and entertainment are still at the forefront of all we do here. Lately, the latter is stealing the spotlight in a big way!

In a typical week, up to twenty different acts take the stage, performing roughly 300 sets. Whether you fancy freestyle rap, delight to the notes of the didgeridoo, or prefer to sway to the sounds of a sultry saxophone, chances are, you can find it at Downtown Disney.

I spend most of my time here during the daylight hours, and although I know we have an incredibly full talent lineup, even I was surprised by how much live music I encountered throughout the West Side during my latest nighttime visit to the property. On most evenings, the West Side comes alive with musical flair by 6:30 p.m.

Visiting earlier? At the Marketplace, performances start at 12:30 p.m. daily near Dockside Margaritas. I recently saw one of my favorites, Pat Frost, a master who mixes steel drums, the ukulele and conch shells (yes, conch shells!) to create a unique sound that you won’t find anywhere else at Walt Disney World Resort.

DTDLE579699

If carefree island music isn’t for you, fear not … at this locale, you can also hear everything from pop hits to new age world music. Entertainment Manager Jenni Kloote Quick shared, “we look for musicians with a fun, laid back vibe. We want them to have an inviting attitude and welcome guests to stay and enjoy the great combination of world-class music and gorgeous water views.”

No matter what your style – classical, Latin rock, or Top 40 tunes – it’s here!

Who’s your favorite act at Downtown Disney? Share in the comments below … I’d love to know!

posted on July 22nd, 2015 by Sarah Domenech, International Public Relations Manager

When mi familia comes to visit, we always set one day aside to spend at Downtown Disney. Why? Because it’s a great way to have fun juntos outside of the theme parks.

As you will see in this installment of “Sonia’s Best of Walt Disney World,” travel expert Sonia Gil always has a great time shopping, eating, and enjoying the many things you can do at Downtown Disney.

Did you notice that there are a few new things at Downtown Disney? More stores, restaurants, and entertainment are coming to the complex that is going through its biggest expansion ever, as it transitions into Disney Springs. So there will be plenty to experience and enjoy juntos!

So no matter where you and your familia choose to go each day while vacationing at Walt Disney World Resort, they are sure to have a wonderful time.

Video: Coolest Summer Ever Shopping Spree in the Marketplace Co-Op at Walt Disney World Resort

posted on July 21st, 2015 by Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager

coocoo3769871

The Marketplace Co-Op in Downtown Disney Marketplace has been open for a little over a year now. This flexible space location is home to several unique boutiques including Cherry Tree Lane, which offers fashion accessories created especially for Disney Parks. Recently, Downtown Disney’s fashionista Isabella went on a Coolest Summer Ever shopping spree in this location to check out some of our most popular co-branded items.

In the video, Isabella mentioned that additional laser cut bags by Vera Bradley were coming to Disney Parks. I spoke with the accessories team who shared these images of the two new bags. They are the reverse colors of the current white bags with black trim featured in the video. Look for them at the Marketplace Co-Op in the coming weeks.
