#CoolestSummer Ever: Liquid Cool at Walt Disney World Resort

posted on July 10th, 2015 by Greg Ehrbar, Writer/Author, Disney's Yellow Shoes Creative Group

When temperatures creep up, there’s nothing like a bit of H2O. Here are some watery ways folks ward off summer’s generous warmth:

Spritzes of circumstance. For a quick refresh, you need only catch a Magic Kingdom Park camel at the right time at The Magic Carpets of Aladdin. And even though you can get plenty of moisture at Kali River Rapids, you can also get a sprinkle or two from other Disney’s Animal Kingdom guests aiming squirt guns from the bridge over the attraction. Think of it a kind of public service for this time of year.

KRF3748481

Kid’s mini-water frolic areas. Some parks have mini-water fun areas, where festive sprays pop up at random and kids let off steam. Similar fun is flowing at Downtown Disney Marketplace.

KRF3748482

Casey Jr. Splash ‘N’ Soak Station. The newest wonderful world of wet was suggested by reader Thomas in an earlier post, and it’s a big hit for the little ones, as well as a Magic Kingdom Park joy for fans of the Disney animated classic, “Dumbo.”

Club Cool. Beware of the Beverly! If you’ve been to this ethereal Epcot oasis before, you’ll probably get the reference. At Club Cool, you can sample international Coca-Cola products to your heart’s content. Everybody has a favorite, and more than one have stood poker-faced as newbies take sips of a brew called “Beverly” and watched them make the same face as Lucy did when she joined the thousands of happy peppy people who spooned their way to health with her first taste of Vitameatavegamin (“It’s so tasty, too. Tastes just like candy!”).

Disney Water Parks, of course. You can pretend you’re splashing around “snow-capped peaks” at Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park–where little ones can step across ice blocks and giggle on Lilliputan miniatures of the park attractions. This summer, we’ve even introduced a fantastic selection of delicious foods at both Water Parks. And whether you’re Disney Channel fans or those of us whose hearts belong to Annette (or both), you can groove to music, entertainment and games during the Teen Beach 2: Beach Party at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park. Twistin’ rockin’ eatin’ and laughin’ at beach parties is the height of summer coolness.

New Tea Traders Café by Joffrey’s Opens at Downtown Disney in Florida

posted on July 7th, 2015 by Darcy Clark, Marketing Manager, Downtown Disney at Walt Disney World Resort

As a southerner who was born and raised outside of Atlanta, GA, there’s nothing I love more than a perfectly brewed glass of iced tea—sweet, of course! Soon, I’ll be expanding my tea palate and exploring a variety of loose leaf teas from The Tea Traders Café by Joffrey’s, a brand-new tea café joining other new venues in The Landing, the first of four planned neighborhoods coming to Downtown Disney as it transitions into Disney Springs.

Whether you enjoy your tea stepped hot, iced, blended, spirited or even edible (yes, they’ll be serving delicious tea-based cookies and treats), there’s a tea for you.

If you’re like me and have a lot to learn about tea, be sure to engage with the onsite Tea Smith who hand-blends loose leaf and herbal teas and can discuss tea selections if you’re unsure what to order.

Modeled after a 1940s warehouse setting, this modern-meets-Old World tea café will feature teas from the finest tea gardens around the globe. Joffrey’s CEO Ted Abrams promises “complex flavor profiles” and hopes to “introduce guests to the vast world of tea that cannot be found in local grocers.” Based on all I’ve heard, I’m ready for my introduction!

The Tea Traders Café by Joffrey’s is now open in the heart of Downtown Disney. For the latest real-time updates on openings and new offerings, follow Downtown Disney on Twitter at @WDWDowntown.

Celebrate the Emotions from Disney•Pixar’s ‘Inside Out’ with New Merchandise at Disney Parks

posted on June 18th, 2015 by Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager

bjfids645321

Disney•Pixar’s newest original film “Inside Out” arrives in theaters on June 19. I’m looking forward to seeing it with my son who has been watching the trailers for months now. While my parents were visiting us, they bought him a few Disney Tsum Tsum featuring characters from this upcoming film. I recently visited Downtown Disney Marketplace to discover what other items were now at Disney Parks.

bcjadio65432

The small “Inside Out” assortment includes home décor, apparel, plush and toys. I love the five plush inspired by the emotions of Joy, Sadness, Anger, Disgust and Fear.

I found the Disney Tsum Tsum my parents purchased at Once Upon a Toy in Downtown Disney Marketplace in Florida. They will also be offered at World of Disney in Downtown Disney District in California.

Other items include a deluxe figurine playset, a coffee mug, and a new book titled “Sadly Ever After” by Elise Allen with illustrations by Dan Holland.

bhaduo123654

I love the packaging for the open edition six-pin set. Disney pin collectors should also look for an open edition pin with Joy and Bing Bong and a limited edition opening day pin (the latter has an edition size of 3,000).

bcjha461329

Finally, the D-Tech on Demand boutique in the Marketplace Co-Op at Downtown Disney Marketplace will also offer six different “Inside Out” designs. You can create and customize a case for the following mobile phones: iPhone 4/4S, iPhone 5/5S/5C, iPhone 6/6+, Samsung Galaxy SIII, Samsung Galaxy S4 and Samsung Galaxy S5. These new designs will be introduced at the location by June 19.

Select items will be found in a variety of merchandise locations at Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts. You can find other items from “Inside Out” online here.

Frozen Ever After,” will be an adventure fit for the entire family that’ll take guests through the kingdom of Arendelle. The fantastic Disney storytelling combined with new technology and favorite moments and music from the film will make guests feel like they stepped into the magical world of “Frozen.”

You can find more information about the attraction in our original story.

And we shared new details about “The Edison and “STK Orlando” coming to Disney Springs at the Walt Disney World Resort. Similar to its sister location on the west coast, The Edison at Disney Springs will be dedicated to a resurgence of old-world style, sophistication and romance.

JER5704701

We also shared a new rendering of STK Orlando – a location that’ll be the only spot that offers rooftop dining, in a gorgeous lounge setting, at Disney Springs.

Darcy has more details on both in her “coming soon” story.

Here are some of the other stories we worked on this week.

New Cars Land Merchandise Cruises into Disney California Adventure Park – The collection features something for everyone in your family, and friends too! You’ll find youth and adult hats, tees, fleece, a water bottle, pins and even an engine-revving tailgate party tote and duffle bag.

Top Five: Donald Duck at Disney Parks – Over the years, Donald’s been a guest favorite at Disney Parks around the globe, whether it’s meeting him during a character greeting, spotting him in “Disney’s Festival of Fantasy Parade” or shopping for Donald gifts.

Celebrating 1 Million @DisneyParks Twitter Followers – One of the popular Twitter accounts for many Disney Parks Blog readers – @DisneyParks – just reached a big milestone – 1 million followers. And to help celebrate the occasion and thank all of our fans, we’ve gathered some of your favorite Disney characters for a special stop-motion surprise.

A Mom’s Take on the Deluxe Studios at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows – Disney Vacation Club accommodations offer special features perfect for families of all sizes. The Deluxe Studios at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows, the newest Disney Vacation Club Resort, are the largest at the Walt Disney World Resort.

Behind the Scenes: This Year’s Star Wars Weekends Creative Campaign – The idea behind this year’s campaign is simple: it’s as close to the Force as you can get. Everything plays out around the notion of going to Star Wars Weekends at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and you are literally surrounded by the Force and all things Star Wars.

Behind the Scenes: Creating Our @DisneyParks Stop-Motion Film – What do you get when you take 1,000 photos, 60 lbs of confetti, seven Disney characters and one photographer with a big imagination? Something magical, of course!

Sights and Sounds of Disney Parks: Playing It Cool at Walt Disney World Resort

posted on June 12th, 2015 by Greg Ehrbar, Writer/Author, Disney's Yellow Shoes Creative Group

Amid all the excitement of the fun and magic during the Coolest Summer Ever, let’s share some thoughts about all the Walt Disney World ways and wonders we enjoy to keep us cool. You’re probably already an expert on tips for dialing up the fun and toning down the sun, but to get started, here are just a few:

Stay cool inside. Drink plenty of water—even before you get too thirsty. Make sure the whole gang stays properly hydrated.

1287021877_0829ZY_2515MS

Stay cool outside. Wear hats, sunglasses, sunscreen, and comfy shoes—shoes that were made for walking. You don’t have to be a runner or jogger to visit your hometown running shoe store (or Fit2Run at the Downtown Disney Area). They’ll help you find shoes that support the way you specifically walk. Just wait until you’ve walked in shoes so comfy, they’re ‘like butter’!

Take a break. Make use of extended park hours and Extra Magic Hours so briefly bid adieu to the parks for an hour or two at your Disney Resort hotel. Take a refreshing “power nap.” Loll around in the pool (staying in the shade as much as possible). Savor a leisurely meal at a Disney Resort restaurant (make reservations soon). When you get back to the parks, you’ll feel as fresh as the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival!

MDT7407591

Write a book. You think I’m kidding, don’t you? Well, we’re very proud of a brand new gem now available in select shops called “My Walt Disney World Travels”. It’s an easy-to-carry spiral bound book with lots of places to jot down the delightful details of up to five Walt Disney World Resort visits. Each of the five visit sections has a pocket for odds and ends that become personal treasures.

‘My Walt Disney World Travels’ Book Available at Walt Disney World Resort ‘My Walt Disney World Travels’ Book Available at Walt Disney World Resort ‘My Walt Disney World Travels’ Book Available at Walt Disney World Resort

You might ask, “Sure, ‘My Walt Disney World Travels’ is filled with fun, clever things, but isn’t it a kids’ book?” Yes and no. Yes, hand them to the kids when they’re in need of a cool-down break; when they’re asking when their chicken nuggets will be served, or just about to make all the grownups wake up just a little too soon. But why should kids have all the journal fun? The book has a wonderful Mary Blair flair to it, so it epitomizes the pinnacle of style and sophistication.

That reminds me, I’ve got to go jot something down right now! Until we meet here next Friday, what are your tips for keeping cool and comfortable on warmish summer days?

COMING SOON: New Details Emerge About ‘The Edison’ and ‘STK Orlando’ at Disney Springs at Walt Disney World Resort

posted on June 10th, 2015 by Darcy Clark, Marketing Manager, Downtown Disney at Walt Disney World Resort

A few weeks ago, several new retail and dining experiences were announced for Disney Springs. Among them: The Edison, a lavish “Industrial Gothic”-style restaurant, bar and nighttime destination that will feature exceptional classic American food, artisanal craft cocktails and unparalleled live entertainment.

NDSR5705703

Similar to its sister location on the west coast, The Edison at Disney Springs will be dedicated to a resurgence of old-world style, sophistication and romance. Themed to a 1920s-period electric company, the space will recall an exuberant era of invention and imagination. With 35-foot ceilings and a range of themed areas to explore, The Edison will feature nightly entertainment including contortionists, palm readers, DJs and more.

Today, I’ve also got more details on STK Orlando – a new rendering and another fun bit of info: this location will be the only spot that offers rooftop dining, in a gorgeous lounge setting, at Disney Springs.

JER5704701

Progress also continues on Morimoto Asia, the first pan-Asian restaurant from celebrity Chef Masaharu Morimoto.

STK Orlando and Morimoto Asia will debut later this year. The Edison will open in 2016.

Which new restaurant are you most excited for? Tell me in the comments below – I’d love to know!
