Trend Spotting: Our Favorite Walt Disney World Resort Restaurants for Charcuterie

posted on January 30th, 2015 by Pam Brandon, Disney Parks Food Writer

Charcuterie, the fancy French term for preserved meats, is an age-old food preparation that’s popping up on lots of Walt Disney World Resort menus. The newest at Trattoria al Forno at Disney’s BoardWalk made us want to try them all.

PFD759042

We love that Trattoria al Forno features cured Italian meats on the breakfast menu with tomatoes, hard-boiled eggs and cheese with fonduta (an Italian melted cheese made with Fontina cheese). What a way to start the day with a press pot of good coffee. For dinner, the restaurant pairs the charcuterie with house-pickled peppers, rich olives, caponata (eggplant) and grilled bread.

On the dinner menu at Be Our Guest Restaurant in Magic Kingdom Park, the charcuterie for two includes assorted cured meats and sausages with tart cornichons, pickled onions and a toasted baguette. Pair this one with a crisp white wine to enhance the flavors.

Over at Epcot, we head to two spots: Chefs de France in the France pavilion, and Le Cellier Steakhouse in the Canada pavilion. The dinner menu at Chefs de France include assiette campagnarde, a rustic assortment of French patés and charcuteries that is trés authentique. At Le Cellier, the generous platter of meats comes with grilled sourdough and buttery Italian Robiola cheese.

At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, stop by the al fresco Hollywood Brown Derby Lounge for the artisanal cheese & charcuterie board for two that features salami Calabrese, salami Toscano, duck rillette (similar to paté), imported prosciutto and paté de campagne. Relax with a Champagne or martini flight, or one of the craft cocktails or wines by the glass.

Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa features charcuterie at both Cítricos and adjacent Mizner’s Lounge, a beautiful wooden board piled with prosciutto di Parma, sopressata, dry pork coppa, beef bresaola, Palacios chorizo, domestic artisanal salame, Pecorino Romano, Medjool dates, bread-and-butter pickles and Marcona almonds. That’s dinner!

At Disney’s Contemporary Resort, California Grill starts with handcrafted charcuterie with seasonal accompaniments. Downstairs at The Wave … of American Flavors, American-crafted cheeses, country-style paté and artisan cured meats are the stars of the charcuterie board.

Others on our list: Kona Café at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort mixes it up a bit with cured meats, olives, aged goat cheese, house-made bread and fruit compote on both the lunch and dinner menus. Yachtsman Steakhouse at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort kicks it up with suckling pig, country sausage, lardo and boar terrine on the charcuterie platter.

We’ll end over at cozy Territory Lounge at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, the “Northwest Charcuterie” include cured meats such as venison and bison sausage, liverwurst; artisan cheeses like creamy Rogue River Blue, cranberry-mustard, sweet pickles and walnut bread. This calls for a Moosehead!

Space Mountain Marks Milestone Anniversary at Magic Kingdom Park

posted on January 15th, 2015 by Jennifer Fickley-Baker, Social Media Manager

Today we’re celebrating another attraction milestone on the Disney Parks Blog. It’s Space Mountain’s 40th anniversary here at Magic Kingdom Park!

SPP68696

The idea for Space Mountain originated back in the 1960s when the dream of space travel became a very real reality. After a few years of planning and two years of construction, it opened in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom Park on January 15, 1975. The attraction debuted as a unique offering at the park, as it was the second attraction built specifically for the park in Florida (the first was Country Bear Jamboree).

Space Mountain attractions have since opened at Disneyland park in 1977, at Tokyo Disneyland in 1983, at Disneyland Paris in 1995, and at Hong Kong Disneyland in 2005.

Keep your eye on the Disney Parks Blog today for more on this attraction milestone!

Brutus Buckeye Celebrates Ohio State’s Win at Walt Disney World Resort

posted on January 14th, 2015 by Darrell Fry, Sports Media Director, Walt Disney World

On the heels of Ohio State’s College Football Playoff National Championship win, the school’s mascot, Brutus Buckeye, celebrated the team’s historic victory at Walt Disney World Resort on Wednesday. Brutus Buckeye spent the morning at Magic Kingdom Park showing his Disney Side, posing for photos with Disney cheerleaders in front of Cinderella Castle and experiencing Storybook Circus where he rode Dumbo The Flying Elephant and strolled through the park holding balloons.

brubru726511

The trip to Walt Disney World Resort was the magical ending to a fun series of Disney Parks TV spots featuring mascots from the four College Football Playoff semifinal teams vying for the chance to come to Walt Disney World Resort if their team won the first-ever College Football Playoff National Championship, which aired on ESPN. Brutus Buckeye had his ticket punched when Ohio State defeated the University of Oregon 42-20 on Monday night in Dallas.

As for all of the teams that didn’t get to send their mascot to celebrate at Disney, our friends at ESPN have a comforting message for you.

Spotlight on New Pins Coming to Disney Parks in 2015

posted on January 13th, 2015 by Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager

dppins654321
From new retail MagicBands to upcoming Orange Bird products, I’ve recently been sharing previews of items coming to Disney Parks in 2015. This time, I turn the spotlight on Disney pins, which are a fun way to show off your Disney Side when visiting Theme Parks and Resorts.

dppins654322

For years, we’ve offered various “pin-of-the-month” collections, which have new pins released monthly (or sometimes quarterly) for guests to collect. This year, the “Best Friends” collection will contains two individual pins that are great for sharing with your best friend. The “Wonderfully Wicked” collection showcases some of the most famous Disney villains. Both of these monthly collections will be found in select locations at Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts.

Guests in Florida will find the “Shields of Fantasy” collection. These hinged pins open to reveal Disney
characters who reside in Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom Park.

dppins654123

The “Piece of Disney History” collection returns this year. First introduced in 2005, these limited edition pins contain actual pieces of attractions, shows, or parades from Disney Parks. This year, we continue our “Piece of Disneyland Resort History” collection for guests in California, while guests in Florida will find a continuation of the “Piece of SpectroMagic history.”

dppins321654

With the “Generation D” collection, we are counting down to the annual Disney Trading Event that will be held in September at Epcot in Walt Disney World Resort. Each of these 13 limited edition pins will have an edition size of 500 and will be released monthly.

We also have a few surprise pins planned including a collection featuring Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” for Disneyland Resort. When placed next to each other, the pins will form a complete picture. Guests in Florida will find pins celebrating the themed lands of the Magic Kingdom Park. Both of these pin collections will be released at random times throughout the year.

dppins123465

Finally, if you are headed to Disney’s Hollywood Studios I invite you to stop by our newest Disney pin destination at Sunset Market Ranch on Sunset Boulevard. This location is now the main headquarters for all things pins inside the theme park.

As a reminder, new pins are typically released on Thursdays at Disney Parks. Look for one-sheets highlighting key pin releases toward the beginning of each month on the official Disney Pin Trading website – http://www.DisneyPins.com.
