Disney Days of Past: Mickey’s Birthdayland Becomes Mickey’s Starland at Magic Kingdom Park

posted on May 28th, 2015 by Nate Rasmussen, Archivist, Marketing Resource Center

Mickey’s Birthdayland became Mickey’s Starland at Magic Kingdom Park this week in 1990. A few of the local residents gathered by the town sign to commemorate the name change.

Mickey’s Starland eventually became Mickey’s Toontown Fair in 1996. Now, of course, it’s home to Storybook Circus, where you can fly on an elephant, feel the thrill of The Barnstormer or visit some familiar friends at Pete’s Silly Sideshow.

Casey’s Corner – Hitting Lunch Out of the Park for 20 Years at Magic Kingdom Park

posted on May 27th, 2015 by Rachel Brent, Food & Beverage Marketing Communications Coordinator

Imagine sitting at the end of Main Street U.S.A., looking at Cinderella Castle, the ragtime pianist serenading you as you bite into a juicy all-American hotdog. Is there anything better? Twenty years ago today, Casey’s Corner opened, pleasing hungry guests and baseball fans alike.

Decorated with vintage baseball souvenirs and photos, Casey’s Corner has been hitting it out of the park since 1995. Guests enjoy tasty favorites like the Barbecue Slaw Dog, Corn Dog Nuggets and Ball Park Nachos. Last year, we reimagined the interior to accommodate even more fans with additional seating.

Talk about a home run!

During the event, our guests had a private breakfast at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe and participated in a exclusive photo op featuring a jet pack and suit used in production of the film. They were then shuttled to AMC Downtown Disney 24 for a private screening of the film. Afterwards, our guests were made honorary Tomorrowland recruiters and were sent back to Magic Kingdom Park with special Tomorrowland pins to give away.

New Show at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party Will Cast a Spell on You

posted on May 27th, 2015 by Shawn Slater, Communications Manager, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Creative Entertainment

Summer may just be getting started, but I’m already looking forward to fall and the return of my favorite event at Magic Kingdom Park, Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. And this year’s party will be extra fun with the introduction of an all-new show on the Castle Forecourt Stage.

In “Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular,” the mischievous Sanderson Sisters from Disney’s “Hocus Pocus” return to the mortal world for one night during the Halloween season. With only a few hours to run amuck, the three sisters decide to use their magic to throw the best, evil Halloween party this side of the graveyard!

With the help of the Disney villains, Winifred, Mary and Sarah gather together sinister shadows, nefarious nightmares and the power of their frightful friends to conjure the ultimate Hocus Pocus Party Potion and cast a spell on everyone in the Magic Kingdom Park. “Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular” features appearances by Dr. Facilier, Oogie Boogie, Maleficent and other great Disney villains, along with dancers, projections and special effects that combine to make this new show a not-to-be-missed Halloween treat.

“Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular” will be presented exclusively during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, held select nights at Magic Kingdom Park from September 15 – November 1, 2015.

Our 24-kickoff to The Coolest Summer Ever has officially concluded here at the Walt Disney World Resort. A screening of “Tomorrowland” with 500 of our readers? A few trips on Seven Dwarfs Mine Train? Two performances of “Main Street Electrical Parade”? Dole Whip at 3 a.m.? I can’t imagine a better way to kick off what will for sure be the Coolest Summer Ever at Disney Parks.

The party’s going strong at Magic Kingdom Park. Check out these shots of some of the fun being had at Disney’s “Up All Night” Dance Party at Cinderella Castle. Yep, that’s Donald, Daisy and Goofy in their PJs and dancing the night away! And over in Frontierland, Minnie Mouse and Chip ‘n’ Dale have skipped bedtime to kick up their heels in a late-night hoedown.

We’re taking a late-night (or early-morning) snack break, and several locations are still open! The Plaza Restaurant is open till 3 a.m., offering their all-day menu. If you’re craving a sweet snack, Sleepy Hollow is still serving up the Nutella and Fresh Fruit Waffle Sandwich. If you’re in the mood for breakfast bites, try a Cinnamon Roll from Gaston’s Tavern or the Breakfast Platter at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café piled high with sizzling bacon, scrambled eggs and herb-crusted roasted red skin potatoes. Main Street Bakery, Plaza Ice Cream Parlor, Casey’s Corner and The Lunching Pad are all still open if you’re looking for a snack!
