In the last episode of “Sonia’s Best of Walt Disney World,” travel blogger Sonia Gil guides you through the mejor entretenimiento (best entertainment) across our four Walt Disney World Resort theme parks.

From live shows like my all-time favorite Festival of the Lion King at Disney’s Animal Kingdom to “Wishes” fireworks at Magic Kingdom Park, parades and more, our themes parks offer so many options of entertainment that you will surely have the most magical vacation ever.

Like Sonia says, you never know when or where entertainment will pop up, putting you right in the middle of the action!

Top Ten Favorite Items for Halloween 2015 at Disney Parks

posted on September 1st, 2015 by Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager

As Halloween returns to Disney Parks, here are my top ten items to celebrate the season.

DPHI4967101

Figaro in Mickey Mouse Jack O’Lantern Plush
This 11-inch Figaro plush may be my favorite Halloween item this year (maybe it’s because my black cat looks almost like him).

DPHI4967102

Light-Up Pumpkin Necklace
This LED light-up pumpkin necklace is a simple-yet-festive Halloween accent, especially if you want something easy to wear when attending Mickey’s Halloween Party at Disneyland Resort or Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at Walt Disney World Resort. Look carefully to see a new Haunted Mansion-inspired shirt for this year.

DPHI4967103

Halloween Apparel
I like this logo t-shirt with the new Halloween 2015 artwork for Disney Parks. The shirt also glows in the dark.

DPHI4967104

Halloween Candy Bags
The consumables team introduced adorable mini-Halloween candy bags. Each bag contains new Halloween 2015 artwork and contains a variety of pre-packaged candy options.

DPHI4967105

Halloween Lanterns
Each side of these Halloween lanterns picture Mickey and his friends having a frightfully fun time, whether it’s “Terror in Tomorrowland,” or “A Night of Horror in Adventureland.” Each lantern measures approximately 12-inches tall and are intended for battery candles (which are not included).

DPHI4967106

Halloween Headware
I like the two new Halloween headware items this year including a fun Minnie Mouse headband and an ear hat that contains flocked inserts on the ears and a embroidered, padded topper.

DPHI4967107

Mickey Mouse and Friends Halloween Mug
I plan on using this decorative Halloween mug to lift my spirits each morning. The mug contains new Halloween 2015 artwork with characters enjoying a night at Disney Parks.

DPHI4967108

Trick-Or-Trade with Halloween Pins
The pin trading team introduced several new open edition pins and accessories for Halloween. There will be additional limited edition pins coming to Disney Parks. Check DisneyPins.com for the latest release dates. New pins are typically introduced each Thursday in select merchandise locations at Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts.

DPHI4967109

Lounging Around
I may trade in my costume this year for these comfy cotton cobwebbed lounge pants with spooky “Boo” print.

DPHI4967120

Minnie Mouse as a Witch Antennae Topper
This antennae topper features Minnie Mouse dressed as a witch. We are also offering a matching kids costume and hat this year.

Guests can find many of these items using the new Shop Disney Parks mobile app. See this Disney Parks Blog article for details on how to download and use the app. You may also be able to find select Halloween items on our Disney Parks online store.

New ‘Minnie Mouse’s Costume Chaos’ Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom Card To Debut at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

posted on September 1st, 2015 by Jennifer Fickley-Baker, Social Media Manager

When Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party returns for another season of fun at Magic Kingdom Park September 15, guests can pick up an added “treat” – this event exclusive Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom.

NSOTMKHC489601

In case you’re new to Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom, SOTMK is an in-park interactive experience that allows guests to team up with Merlin in a quest to defeat Disney villains who are attempting to takeover the park. Guests use special maps to search for villain hideouts throughout the park. When they find one, guests use different spell cards to battle the villains. Guests can begin their quest at the Firehouse on Main Street, U.S.A., and the game (and starter packs) are complimentary with park admission.

This year’s “Minnie Mouse’s Costume Chaos” card features Minnie, and friends Clarabelle Cow and Daisy Duck, dressed as witches. This event-exclusive card will be distributed in addition to the regular SOTMK card packs (meaning you can pick up both while attending the party). Guests must show their party ticket and event wristband in order to get one.

What do you think of this year’s design? Tell us in the comments section below.

What do Anthony Mackie and child actor Ty Simpkins have in common? They both love to vacation at Walt Disney World Resort! Ty celebrated his 14th birthday with family, friends and favorite Disney character – Peter Pan at Magic Kingdom Park on August 6.

It’s Almost Time for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at Magic Kingdom Park

posted on August 27th, 2015 by Shawn Slater, Communications Manager, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Creative Entertainment

Summer’s winding down. The kids are back in school. What are we going to do next? Plan for Halloween, of course! It’s almost time for one of my favorite seasons of the year – and my absolute favorite Disney event, Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party!

Boo to You Parade!

This year, Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party will feature new eerie entertainment as well as returning favorite experiences throughout Magic Kingdom Park.

The big news is “Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular,” the all-new show at Cinderella Castle, featuring the Disney villains. In the show, those mischievous Sanderson Sisters from Disney’s “Hocus Pocus” visit the mortal world during the Halloween season. The three sisters decide to use their magic to throw the best, evil Halloween party this side of the graveyard, calling upon Disney villains like Dr. Facilier, Oogie Boogie, Maleficent and more!

trickotreat454365

During Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, you can dress in costume, go trick-or-treating throughout the park and meet some of your favorite Disney characters, including all Seven Dwarfs appearing in one place in Fantasyland. Look for new greeting areas around Storybook Circus this year, featuring appearances by Jack and Sally from Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and others. You may even come across some Disney villains. Look for the Queen of Hearts near Mad Tea Party, Gaston outside Gaston’s Tavern (where else?!) and Lotso over in Tomorrowland.

Phineas and Ferb Bust a Move with the Creepa Crew

Don’t forget about Mickey’s “Boo to You” Halloween Parade, running twice nightly, and “Happy HalloWishes,” one of the most impressive fireworks spectaculars ever to fill the skies above Cinderella Castle (and around the whole park, for that matter)!

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is a special event, separate from regular Magic Kingdom Park admission. Tickets are still available for most event nights September 15 through November 1. Be sure to get yours early, so your Halloween can be more treat than trick!

Favorite After-School Snack from Tony’s Town Square in Magic Kingdom Park

posted on August 24th, 2015 by Pam Brandon, Disney Parks Food Writer

It’s a blast from the past with an updated twist – most grown-ups still consider tomato soup and grilled cheese a favorite comfort food. The Disney chefs took this classic and made it a healthful finger food that’s perfect as an after-school snack (or supper for everyone).

In less than hour you’ll have freshly made tomato soup (forget the canned version). Cut grilled cheese into strips that are perfect for little hands – and dipping in the soup is the fun part. Add crunchy apple wedges on the side for a satisfying crunch.

You’ll find it on the menu at Tony’s Town Square in Magic Kingdom Park, but here’s a version for you to make at home.

0523ZY_0146MS

Tomato Soup, Cheese Dippers and Apple Slices
Serves 4 to 6

Tomato Soup
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 onion, diced small
2 cloves garlic, chopped
2 cups tomato puree
1 sprig each fresh thyme, rosemary, basil, and tarragon
2 cups water
1 teaspoon coarse salt, more to taste
1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, more to taste
1 tablespoon tomato paste

Multigrain Cheese Dippers
8 slices multigrain bread
16 thin slices provolone cheese
Olive oil spray

Green Apple Wedges
3 Granny Smith apples

For tomato soup:

  1. Heat oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add onion and garlic; sauté 3 to 4 minutes.
  2. Stir in tomato puree; cook 3 to 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in herbs and water; turn heat to low and simmer 30 to 40 minutes, seasoning with salt and pepper.
  4. Strain through a medium strainer set over a bowl, pushing soup through with a spatula. Whisk in tomato paste, and season to taste with salt and pepper. Serve hot.

For multigrain cheese dippers:

  1. Make 4 sandwiches, each with 2 slices of bread and 4 slices of provolone.
  2. Spray tops and bottoms of sandwiches with olive oil spray.
  3. Heat sauté pan over medium heat and grill each side 2 to 3 minutes, or until golden.
  4. Cut each sandwich into 4 equal strips. Serve hot.

For apples:
Core and slice each apple into 6 wedges.

To serve:
Evenly divide dippers and apples slices with 3/4 cup soup.
