From March 25-31, Mr. and Mrs. Easter Bunny will greet guests at Magic Kingdom Park at Bunny Lane (located next to City Hall) at the Walt Disney World Resort. The pair will also join butterflies, flowers and dancing hippos for an Easter procession down Main Street, U.S.A.

Mr. and Mrs. Easter Bunny will be hopping over to Epcot to greet guests in the United Kingdom Pavilion, where egg hunts will be held throughout the day. And if finding eggs is a family favorite, Easter egg hunts will also be held each day in Future World East.

Things get hopping at Disneyland park as well on Monday, when the Easter Bunny stops by to greet guests in Town Square. Each day, the Easter Bunny will join some of his long-eared Disney friends, along with the Dapper Dans and Mickey and Minnie Mouse, for a Bunny Hop dance on Main Street, U.S.A.

At Disney California Adventure park, Russell and Dug have hidden oversized Easter eggs throughout Redwood Creek Challenge Trail for a Wilderness Explorer Egg Hunt. Track them down, follow the clues and solve the puzzle to earn your very own Spring Egg-tivity Badge.

Let us know if you’ll be joining us for the celebration next week.

This week’s Disney Parks After Dark photo, snapped by Disney Photographer Matt Stroshane, shows off a newly unveiled area in New Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom Park.

As of this week, Rapunzel’s tower from the movie “Tangled” now highlights the area that formerly served as stroller parking across from the Peter Pan’s Flight queue. While the building is actually a new rest area, its theming sure is detailed, with her tower and the lanterns she longed to see in the film represented. Looks like Rapunzel would have a great view of Wishes! Fireworks at night, too!

A Pair of All-Stars: Mickey and ‘The Kid’ at ESPN Wide World of Sports at Walt Disney World Resort

posted on March 4th, 2013 by Tony Morreale, Sports Public Relations Manager

Mickey is no stranger to kids, especially those visiting Walt Disney World Resort. Today, however, was a special occasion as “The Mick” met “The Kid.”
“Mickey
On his way to the Magic Kingdom, the National League all-star Bryce Harper stopped by ESPN Wide World of Sports to receive a couple of hitting tips from Disney’s favorite all star. (Disney Parks Blog author and photographer Gene Duncan was on hand to capture this highlight).

Of course, if his first year in the major leagues is any indication, Bryce doesn’t need many tips. Last Friday night, Harper showed off his natural hitting prowess with a spring training home run against the Atlanta Braves at Champion Stadium. In the video below Bryce also talks about how this wasn’t the first success he tasted at Disney’s sports complex; he also played here as a youth on a handful of occasions for USSSA tournaments.

First Look: An Imagineer Tour Through the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Interactive Queue at Magic Kingdom Park

posted on February 21st, 2013 by Jennifer Fickley-Baker, Social Media Manager

Today we have an exciting update on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Magic Kingdom Park to share with you: Walt Disney Imagineering just sent us a “first look” inside the new interactive queue that’s currently being added to the Frontierland attraction.

In the video, Project Manager Wyatt Winter and Creative Designer Pete Carsillo offer up a behind-the-scenes tour of the new queue, which builds on the attraction’s backstory of Barnabas T. Bullion, founder and president of Big Thunder Mining Company. The storyline of the new area builds the attraction into something that takes guests deeper into the mining days of the Wild West. When the finished queue debuts in a few weeks, guests will be able to explore the mountain’s Mining Office, the Explosives Magazine Room, and maybe even get a little hands-on by doing some of the miners’ activities.

Vintage Walt Disney World: Saluting the Hall of Presidents at Magic Kingdom Park

posted on February 21st, 2013 by Nate Rasmussen, Archivist, Marketing Resource Center

This week we celebrated President’s Day. But every day in Magic Kingdom Park, the leaders of the United States of America are celebrated at the Hall of Presidents. Here’s a look at the original lineup of presidents from December 1971.

Showcasing over 220 years of history in just 25 minutes, the Hall of Presidents has added seven presidents since opening in 1971 as one of the original Magic Kingdom Park attractions during President Nixon’s term in office.

Fun fact: President Obama is the 44th president. So, why are there only 43 presidents on stage? Grover Cleveland’s to blame. He served two non-consecutive terms as both the 22nd and 24th President of the United States.

Sights and Sounds of Disney Parks: What’s it Like to ‘Be Our Guest?’

posted on February 19th, 2013 by Greg Ehrbar, Writer/Author, Disney's Yellow Shoes Creative Group

We asked Ted Robledo, Senior Concept Designer, Walt Disney Imagineering, to give us the exquisite details you’ll experience when you enter Beast’s Castle to experience Be Our Guest Restaurant. So much more than just a dining location, this amazing place at New Fantasyland in Magic Kingdom Park echoes the way Belle herself must have felt when Lumière tipped his cap and proudly presented her dinner and so much more.

Like every Disney artist since Walt himself, Ted told the “story” of Be Our Guest Restaurant so vividly, his description took on a life of its own. We could imagine it all, as if it had come from a storybook. Let’s begin now…
Be Our Guest Restaurant at New Fantasyland in Magic Kingdom Park

Once upon a time, but not too long from now, in a fantastic new land within a magical kingdom, a glistening landscape unfolds before you, where elephants fly and mermaids sing. Your gaze is suddenly transfixed upon a mysterious castle in the distance.

Your instincts are correct — it is indeed Beast’s Castle on a snow-capped mountain peak. Could this really be the place where the tale took place? The story of a young beauty, a fearsome yet vulnerable creature and the love that drew them together? You decide to investigate.

As you move along the path leading to the castle, you somehow know that it must be the Beast’s family property — two ruins flank the original gateway that was likely set up by his ancestors. More and more hints of this become evident — gargoyles on lampposts and suggestions of royalty in the intricate ironwork and stone carvings — as you cross a bridge over the river below.

Tall ornate gates, adorned with the family crest, remind you of the moments in which both Maurice and Belle ventured onto the Beast’s property. Reaching the grand entrance, you sense some of the same foreboding they must have felt, or are you just startled by the horned “guardians” around this massive front door? Are these imposing sculptures some kind of animal, or a combination of several birds and beasts?

Above the double doors is a stunningly beautiful tile mosaic, telling the story of how the Prince came to be cursed to remain a beast unless he finds true love before the last petal falls from the magic rose. Now, standing in the foyer, ominous stonework Minotaurs, half-bull and half-man, hold up a giant archway — within which you perceive a sculpted relief suggesting the agony of the Prince’s transformation amid a motif of dragon tentacles and that all-important rose.

So, the castle itself is, in effect, telling the story to you, step by step. But that’s just the beginning. Through the foyer, you come to the grand hallway, flanked on either side by suits of armor. There’s something magical about them, but you’re not quite sure why…is that a parlor up ahead? Yes, it is a room of welcome, where a traveler might be brought in to seek shelter and enjoy the bounty of its pantry and kitchen. You admire the tapestries and spot a large chair that sits by a fireplace. Is this where Belle treated the wounds of the injured Beast?

There seem to be several places where you might savor the marvelous creations of the castle chefs — or are they cooked up by a hidden, enchanted living stove and kitchenware? Perhaps the most opulent is the Grand Ballroom. You cannot believe you’re actually here, in a setting inspired by that iconic movie scene in which Belle, dressed in a gorgeous golden gown, appears for her evening with the Beast. You’re now completely immersed in the world of the tale.

Magical surprises seem possible in every corner of the ballroom. Most dazzling are the glittering chandeliers, one of which looks as if it leapt off the movie screen. In the distance through the windows, the first snow is falling on the rolling countryside under a starry sky.

By now you’re not sure if the unforgettable music is playing in your head, your heart or throughout the castle, but you’ve now found yourself in the exquisite Rose Gallery. Woven in rose images, you admire paintings of the characters you love from the story, some sprawling as tall as eight feet.

The music you “felt” as well as heard was coming from a truly marvelous music box in the middle of the gallery. Crafted of exotic wood with meticulous detail in gold leaf, this immense handcrafted musical marvel was surely, you surmise, a wedding gift from the ingenious inventor Maurice. Roses wind their way throughout this entire room in all the architectural ornamentation.

Every story has a dramatic high point. You’ve decided to explore the West Wing. It is a moody, foreboding place, where draperies hang in tatters and the painting of the young prince has been slashed in anguish. But in the corner, the enchanted rose itself sits under a glass bell jar. What will happen as each petal falls? Will love triumph?

You are certain that you will find your happily ever after at Be Our Guest Restaurant, not only through the extraordinary experiences and magical surprises that you’ve encountered and enjoyed, but again through the castle’s own astonishing enchantment. For this castle is able to share with you one of the most wondrous powers of all — the gift of unmatchable storytelling.

Magic Kingdom Park Inspires New Merchandise Coming to Walt Disney World Resort

posted on February 18th, 2013 by Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager

What do a spell card binder, a talking trashcan and a giant music box have in common? They are new merchandise items inspired by things found in Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World Resort. I love when the merchandise development team uses attractions, characters or shows from Disney Parks as inspiration for new merchandise (it makes those items feel unique, original and special ). Here is a closer look at three new items coming this year.
Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom Spell Card Binder, Available at Magic Kingdom Park

A new Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom spell card binder was recently introduced at Magic Kingdom Park. This soft cover binder contains several pages where you can display Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom spell cards. Look for the binder in Emporium or Uptown Jewelers on Main Street, U.S.A.; Sir Mickey’s in Fantasyland; or Frontier Trading Post in Frontierland. You can also now find the previously discussed booster packs in these same locations.

If you haven’t tried Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom, check out my fellow author Jennifer Fickley-Baker’s recent tip-filled article. Then, stop by the Main Street Fire Station to join the adventure. I’ve played a few times with my son, who loves the interactive experience.
D-Tech on Demand Case Inspired by PUSH the Talking Trash Can

When merchandiser Kevin-Michael Lezotte showed me a new D-Tech on Demand case, I jumped up and down like an excited child meeting Mickey Mouse for the first time. It was an iPhone 5 case inspired by PUSH, the talking trash can from Tomorrowland! Since making his first appearance on February 18, 1995, PUSH has roamed Tomorrowland chatting with guests, consuming their trash and sometimes even dancing with them. He has participated in several marriage proposals, and even actual weddings!

On February 18, we are releasing this limited release iPhone 5 case in Mickey’s Star Traders in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom Park. If you see PUSH that day, please give him a hug and wish him a “Happy Birthday.” But please don’t mention his age, as I guess he’s a bit self conscious about it.
Figurine Replica of the ‘Beauty and the Beast’ Music Box in Be Our Guest Restaurant

Finally, I recently had a delicious lunch with my teammates at Be Our Guest Restaurant in New Fantasyland. While dining, I watched the beautiful seven-foot tall music box of Belle and Beast spin around in the Rose Gallery. Coming this summer, we will release a 9 ½-inch-tall figurine replica that plays music from this classic animated film. It’s lovely!
