By far one of the happiest holiday sights I enjoy here at Walt Disney World Resort each year is “Mickey’s Once Upon A Christmastime Parade,” which steps off during Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party.
This year, Disney photographer Charlie Champagne went out and captured dozens of new photos of the parade that you just can’t miss. Be sure to check out the gallery above for dancing gingerbread men, marching toy soldiers, our friends from “Frozen,” Santa Claus and much more.
If there ever was a merry sight that could instantly fill you with holiday joy, it’s “Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade.”
Performed during Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party event nights, this parade celebrates everything merry about the holiday season – friends (like Mickey, Minnie and pals dressed in holiday attire), family (look for Anna and Elsa in the line-up), food (watch as dancing gingerbread men and a cookie-baking float pass by), toys (especially on that “Toy Story” float). Santa Claus, of course, also makes a special appearance.
See “Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade” for yourself by attending Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. Find details on that here.
What’s your favorite part of this parade? Tell us in the comments section below.

One of my family’s favorite traditions each year is to visit Epcot during Holidays Around the World, where time-honored traditions come alive through the sights and sounds of the countries of World Showcase. We enjoy learning about the customs of Hanukkah and Kwanzaa and listening to the tales of characters like the kind-hearted witch La Befana, whom I recall from the years I spent living in Italy as a child.
For the 2014 holiday season, new Holidays Around the World experiences in Mexico, Morocco, and China join returning favorites such as “Joyful! A Gospel Celebration of the Season,” the Canadian Holiday Voyageurs, and of course, Santa and Mrs. Claus.
In Mexico, guests will enjoy the songs and traditions of “Fiesta de Navidad,” featuring colorful dancers and mariachis, who celebrate the holiday customs of Mexico in an interactive, musical performance. A Moroccan storyteller invites guests to join her on a journey to experience the gaiety of festivals, holiday traditions, and celebrations that are like the “spice of life” across Morocco. And the China pavilion bursts to life with the vibrant Chinese Lion Dance, bringing good fortune and happiness to all in honor of major holidays such as the Lunar New Year and Lantern Festival.
I can’t wait to see it all! Holidays Around the World at Epcot starts November 28 and continues through December 29, 2014. Who else is going?
If you don’t know Joe Kaminski, chances are you know his work. Joe’s amazing Disney character art has been featured on the Disney Parks Blog since launch and over the years, he’s continued to make magic while most of us sleep – he usually paints from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.
As Joe prepares for appearances at this week’s Disney Artist Showcase at the Art of Disney, we wanted to share a special behind-the-scenes look at how this self-taught artist inspires others to follow their passion.
Joe’s motivation to create art comes from his children’s love of Disney characters but he was originally inspired to begin after seeing another Disney Parks Blog favorite, Don “Ducky” Williams, sketching Disney characters.
Art created by Joe, Don “Ducky” Williams, blog author Will Gay and others will be featured in the upcoming Disney Artist Showcase at the Art of Disney location in Downtown Disney Marketplace at Walt Disney World Resort.
We’ve included a schedule of which artists will make appearances at the events. Please note that all appearances are subject to change without notice.
- November 14-15 – David Buckley, Joe Kaminski, Will Gay, Don “Ducky” Williams, Mark Seppala
- November 21-22 – Darren Wilson, Tim McCloskey, Joe Kaminski, Alex Maher
- December 5-6 – Brian Blackmore, Tim McCloskey, Jason Grandt, Costa Alavezos
