posted on December 4th, 2014 by Jennifer Fickley-Baker, Social Media Manager

If there ever was a merry sight that could instantly fill you with holiday joy, it’s “Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade.”

Performed during Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party event nights, this parade celebrates everything merry about the holiday season – friends (like Mickey, Minnie and pals dressed in holiday attire), family (look for Anna and Elsa in the line-up), food (watch as dancing gingerbread men and a cookie-baking float pass by), toys (especially on that “Toy Story” float). Santa Claus, of course, also makes a special appearance.

See “Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade” for yourself by attending Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. Find details on that here.

What’s your favorite part of this parade? Tell us in the comments section below.

New Experiences Coming to Holidays Around the World at Epcot

posted on November 14th, 2014 by Shawn Slater, Communications Manager, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Creative Entertainment

One of my family’s favorite traditions each year is to visit Epcot during Holidays Around the World, where time-honored traditions come alive through the sights and sounds of the countries of World Showcase. We enjoy learning about the customs of Hanukkah and Kwanzaa and listening to the tales of characters like the kind-hearted witch La Befana, whom I recall from the years I spent living in Italy as a child.

For the 2014 holiday season, new Holidays Around the World experiences in Mexico, Morocco, and China join returning favorites such as “Joyful! A Gospel Celebration of the Season,” the Canadian Holiday Voyageurs, and of course, Santa and Mrs. Claus.

In Mexico, guests will enjoy the songs and traditions of “Fiesta de Navidad,” featuring colorful dancers and mariachis, who celebrate the holiday customs of Mexico in an interactive, musical performance. A Moroccan storyteller invites guests to join her on a journey to experience the gaiety of festivals, holiday traditions, and celebrations that are like the “spice of life” across Morocco. And the China pavilion bursts to life with the vibrant Chinese Lion Dance, bringing good fortune and happiness to all in honor of major holidays such as the Lunar New Year and Lantern Festival.

I can’t wait to see it all! Holidays Around the World at Epcot starts November 28 and continues through December 29, 2014. Who else is going?

Self-Taught Disney Artist Inspires With Paint at Walt Disney World Resort

posted on November 11th, 2014 by Thomas Smith, Social Media Director, Disney Parks

If you don’t know Joe Kaminski, chances are you know his work. Joe’s amazing Disney character art has been featured on the Disney Parks Blog since launch and over the years, he’s continued to make magic while most of us sleep – he usually paints from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.

As Joe prepares for appearances at this week’s Disney Artist Showcase at the Art of Disney, we wanted to share a special behind-the-scenes look at how this self-taught artist inspires others to follow their passion.

Joe’s motivation to create art comes from his children’s love of Disney characters but he was originally inspired to begin after seeing another Disney Parks Blog favorite, Don “Ducky” Williams, sketching Disney characters.

Art created by Joe, Don “Ducky” Williams, blog author Will Gay and others will be featured in the upcoming Disney Artist Showcase at the Art of Disney location in Downtown Disney Marketplace at Walt Disney World Resort.

We’ve included a schedule of which artists will make appearances at the events. Please note that all appearances are subject to change without notice.

  • November 14-15 – David Buckley, Joe Kaminski, Will Gay, Don “Ducky” Williams, Mark Seppala
  • November 21-22 – Darren Wilson, Tim McCloskey, Joe Kaminski, Alex Maher

‘Tis the Season for Very Merry Treats at Magic Kingdom Park

posted on November 11th, 2014 by Rachel Brent, Food & Beverage Marketing Communications Coordinator

The culinary teams at Magic Kingdom Park have been decking their kitchens with festive treats for Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. Since Disney Parks Blog readers are all on Santa’s “nice list,” here’s a peek at some of the goodies that will be available at the party.

How lovely are the branches of the Christmas tree cupcake from Gaston’s Tavern? Spiced confetti cake is topped with decadent butter cream frosting and sugary sprinkled “ornaments.” Of course, no Christmas tree is complete without the glittery star on top.

If you’re looking for even more holiday decadence, try the cupcakes at Main Street Bakery. The adorable reindeer cupcake is a peanut butter delight. Vanilla cake with peanut butter is topped with mocha and peanut butter frosting, it’s almost too cute to eat! My favorite? The chocolate cupcake infused with peppermint and topped with a peppermint buttercream and sprinkles—it looks just like a candy cane!

I might get coal in my stocking for it, but I couldn’t resist a bite of a buttery sugar cookie from Main Street Bakery. You can also find the craveable cookies next door at Plaza Ice Cream Parlor, where you can make a sweet sandwich with your favorite flavor of ice cream. While you’re there, check out this cool treat: scoops of vanilla and mint chocolate-chip ice cream served in a waffle bowl and topped with hot fudge, whipped cream and peppermint sprinkles.

If you prefer soft serve, try the waffle sundae from Sleepy Hollow in Liberty Square. Infused with pumpkin, the waffle is dusted with cinnamon sugar, soft-serve ice cream and holiday sprinkles.

What’s This? Jack Skellington Brings a Touch of Christmastown to Walt Disney World Resort for the Holidays

posted on November 7th, 2014 by Shawn Slater, Communications Manager, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Creative Entertainment

Fans of “Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas” have even more to grin about this holiday season.

SCJ708423

The Pumpkin King himself, Jack Skellington, has decided to join the holiday celebration at Walt Disney World Resort by dropping in on Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at Magic Kingdom Park. Head back to Storybook Circus during the party, and you’ll find Jack making Christmas as “Sandy Claws” – just don’t count on any gifts from him turning out quite right.

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, which is separate from regular Magic Kingdom Park admission, starts tonight and continues on select nights through December 19.

Meanwhile over at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, there’s color everywhere and white things in the air as the 2014 season of The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights returns to the park’s Streets of America tonight.

This year, the song “What’s This?” from “Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas” has been added to the show, bringing with it all the wonder and delight Jack Skellington experienced upon first visiting Christmastown. “What’s This?” joins such favorites as “Feliz Navidad” by Jose Feliciano and “Christmas Is Starting Now” by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy on the playlist of holiday songs for the dancing lights.

The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights is presented nightly through January 4, 2015 (except November 20), and is included with regular admission to Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

‘Elsa’ Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom Card To Be Released At Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party

posted on November 4th, 2014 by Jennifer Fickley-Baker, Social Media Manager

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party returns to Magic Kingdom Park on November 7, and this year’s event-exclusive Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom card will be “Elsa’s Icy Shield” and will let players harness some of Queen Elsa’s special “Frozen” powers.

hyhhyh868811

In case you haven’t played Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom yet, this interactive game allows you to join Merlin’s quest to defeat Disney Villains who are trying to take over Magic Kingdom Park. You use maps to find villain hideouts throughout the park, visit magic portals and use spell cards (like this one) to spoil a villain’s plan. Cards feature different Disney characters with unique powers. You can also use multiple cards to enhance your attack on the villains.

The Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom quest begins at the Firehouse on Main Street, U.S.A., where you can pick up complimentary key cards, spell cards and maps (additional cards can be purchased at select merchandise locations). The “Elsa’s Icy Shield” card will be distributed in addition to the regular Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom card packs. Guests must present their party ticket and event wristband in order to get one.

Will you pick this up during your party visit? Tell us in the “Comments” section below!

It’s Almost Time for Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at Magic Kingdom Park

posted on November 4th, 2014 by Shawn Slater, Communications Manager, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Creative Entertainment

Who’s ready for cookies, cocoa, and holiday cheer? I sure am! So I’m giddy with excitement that it’s almost time for another season of Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party!

This Magic Kingdom Park tradition kicks off Friday, November 7, and this year the annual event gets an extra dose of holiday magic with “A Frozen Holiday Wish,” additions to “Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade,” new character dance parties, and opportunities to visit with not only Santa Claus, but Santa Goofy and “Sandy Claws” too!

1106ZW_0951DR-640x420

“Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade” includes lots of Disney characters, along with a holly jolly cast of snowmen, reindeer, elves, and of course, Santa Claus. Ralph and Vanellope from “Wreck-It Ralph” are new to the parade this year, as is a procession of visitors from the Kingdom of Arendelle with Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, and Olaf from “Frozen.”

The “Holiday Hootenanny!” boot-scoots into the Diamond Horseshoe in Frontierland, where you can kick up your heels for some down-home holiday fun with the Country Bears, Clarabelle Cow, Horace Horsecollar, and Clara Cluck. And over at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café in Tomorrowland, Club Tinsel becomes the top spot to get down when Phineas and Ferb show up. What are they going to do today? The brothers are going to rock their Christmas vacation with the holiday cheeriest dance party this side of Danville!

Christmas has come to Storybook Circus, too, and some of your favorite Disney pals are all dressed up for the occasion, including Minnie, Daisy, Donald, Scrooge McDuck, and of course, Santa Goofy. And what’s this? Pumpkin king Jack Skellington has been so inspired by everything in Christmastown, he wants to be part of the holiday celebration, too. You’ll find Jack in Storybook Circus – dressed in his finest “Sandy Claws” suit and ready to meet the boys and girls of every age!

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is held on select nights, November 7 – December 19, and is separate from regular Magic Kingdom Park admission. Tickets are available now. Get yours before dates start selling out.

New Merchandise For Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at Magic Kingdom Park Starting November 7, 2014

posted on November 3rd, 2014 by Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party returns to Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World Resort on November 7, 2014. I took my son to one of the parties last year and he loved it. We watched the fireworks above Cinderella Castle, rode many attractions and enjoyed hot chocolate in Adventureland. Since this year’s parties are only a week away, here is a look at some new products that will be offered for guests.

Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse will be featured on a unique retail MagicBand created especially for the event. Presented in a decorative gift box, the limited-edition graphic MagicBand will have an edition size of 5,000 and will retail for $29.95 (plus tax). Guests must present one of the following for the MagicBand to be linked to at the time of purchase: valid theme park admission, Memory Maker card or an active MagicBand.

Guests will also find Mickey and Minnie on some apparel items for both adults and kids.

Finally, the Disney Pin Team is releasing a special jumbo-sized pin that features the world famous Disney characters joining Santa Claus in his sleigh. The pin will have an edition size of 500. Look for other limited release and limited edition pins at the event that are shaped like ornaments.

These items will be released in the following locations at Magic Kingdom Park during Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Parties:

Dates for this year’s parties are November 7, 10, 13, 14, 16, 20, 21 and 30, and December 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 11, 12, 14, 16, 18 and 19. For ticket information, please click here.

One of my favorite things from last year was watching Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade with my son. I loved those toy soldiers as seen in the image I took last year while in Liberty Square. My son waved to all of the characters as they passed us; it was such a nice holiday memory.
