Picture If You Will Merchandise for The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 10-Miler Weekend

posted on September 29th, 2014 by Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager

The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 10-Miler Weekend is returning soon to Walt Disney World Resort. This weekend of runDisney events takes place on October 3-4, and includes a nighttime Disney Villain Hollywood Bash at Disney’s Hollywood Studios following the 10-miler on Saturday. If there was a race I’d like to run, this would be the one due to my love of all things Tower of Terror. The merchandise events development team recently shared with me some of the merchandise create for this event which I thought you’d like to see.

tottot375522

Like previous runDisney events, there will be a variety of apparel items offered this year including both long and short sleeve options. I love this year’s artwork, especially the map on the back of the “I Did It” tee. The black jacket is also a nice addition and will contain glow-in-the-dark ink.

Other items will include limited release pins including one with Hitchhiking Ghosts from The Haunted Mansion that will also glow-in-the-dark. Guests will also find a car magnet, water bottle, hat, and, my favorite, a silver necklace with a Maleficent-themed running shoe. We will also have a black Disney ear hat for the Kids’ Races that will contain the logo with Donald Duck dressed for Halloween.

To find these items and more, I invite you to attend the runDisney Health & Fitness Expo at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

On Friday, October 3, 2014, the Expo will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

On Saturday, October 4, 2014, guests can visit the Expo from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

I wish all participants the best of luck during the race and watch out for those Disney Villains!

Wildly Spooky Treats at Walt Disney World Resort

posted on September 26th, 2014 by Rachel Brent, Food & Beverage Marketing Communications Coordinator

As it gets closer to Halloween, we keep scaring up more and more treats at Walt Disney World Resort. Recently, I shared the ghoulish delights you can find at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, so now let’s take a look at some of the frightfully fantastic treats you can find at our other Walt Disney World theme parks.

Kusafiri Bakery and Isle of Java in Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park are serving up creepy concoctions. I couldn’t resist this adorable demitasse mug, which combines some of my favorite things—Minnie Mouse, pumpkins and chocolate mousse. If you’re in the mood for something more substantial, the chocolate brownie with spooky sprinkles is to die for, while a sweet pumpkin muffin is a perfect way to start a fall morning.

dwswdw123456

I adore gummy candies, so I was especially excited about the Spooky Worms ‘n Dirt Sundae from Discovery Island Ice Cream. A scoop of your favorite flavor gets topped with crushed chocolate cookies, gummy worms, whipped cream and spooky sprinkles. You’ll also find the frightful Bat Cupcake—chocolate cake topped with white icing, sprinkles and a chocolate bat.

If cupcakes are your favorite, you’re not going to want to miss the bewitching offerings at Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Sunshine Seasons at Epcot is brewing up a chocolate Witch Cupcake with a peanut butter filling. If you’re craving carrot cake, head to Disney’s Hollywood Studios for their tasty take on this cupcake. Which witch will you choose?

‘Muppets Most Wanted’ Star Constantine Visits Walt Disney World Resort

posted on September 24th, 2014 by Jennifer Fickley-Baker, Social Media Manager

Have you seen “Muppets Most Wanted” yet?

The latest film in the Muppets franchise takes the entire gang on a global tour through Berlin, Madrid, Dublin and London. But of course mayhem follows the Muppets overseas, as they find themselves tangled up in an international crime caper headed by Constantine, the World’s Number One Criminal and Kermit lookalike.

It just so happens that Constantine himself recently stopped by Disney’s Hollywood Studios – and talked with our very own John Graham to share what he loved about his visiting Disney Parks.

“Muppets Most Wanted” is now available on Blu-ray Combo Pack, Digital HD and Disney Movies Anywhere.

‘Frozen’ Attraction Coming to Epcot

posted on September 12th, 2014 by Tom Staggs, Chairman, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts

When Walt Disney promised that Disneyland would never be completed, so long as there is imagination left in the world, he made a promise to our guests that we take seriously at all our locations around the world. This year, one particular product of imagination — Disney Animation’s blockbuster hit “Frozen” — captured the hearts and minds of people around the world and gave us a new opportunity to make good on Walt’s pledge.

We’ve made “Frozen” a part of the guest experience in a number of ways already and our guests have both loved them and asked for more. So I’m pleased to say that we’re starting construction at Walt Disney World Resort on a brand new “Frozen” attraction at the Norway Pavilion in Epcot. The new attraction, which replaces Maelstrom, will take our guests to Arendelle and immerse them in many of their favorite moments and music from the film. The pavilion will also include a royal greeting location where Anna and Elsa can meet our guests. We think these “Frozen” elements are great complements to the Norway Pavilion, which showcases the country and region that inspired the film.

“Frozen’s” popular characters will also have a bigger presence at Magic Kingdom Park this holiday season. In addition to the ongoing character appearances, Queen Elsa will use her powers to transform Cinderella Castle into an ice palace every night starting in early November. And Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party-goers can see Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, and Olaf in “Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade.”

FCS796642

We’re extending some favorite elements of Frozen Summer Fun LIVE!, too, so that guests at Disney’s Hollywood Studios can continue singing along to “Frozen” songs with Queen Elsa and Princess Anna. Wandering Oaken’s will set up shop closer to the show through the holiday season and will feature a larger play area with real snow (in Florida!).

From the moment we screened the film several months before its release, we were inspired by the possibility of bringing this great story to life for our guests. Frozen Summer Fun LIVE! has been extremely popular, and now we’re looking forward to doing even more to allow our guests to experience the “Frozen” phenomenon.

Family Creates Giant Olaf at the Beach to Celebrate Disney Side

posted on September 8th, 2014 by Thomas Smith, Social Media Director, Disney Parks

If you’re a regular Disney Parks Blog reader, you know it’s been a summer of Frozen Fun for us. So, before the season officially comes to an end, we wanted to share a spectacular Frozen-inspired sand creation a family made to show their Disney Side at New Smyrna Beach, Florida.

snbnns735699

Each summer vacation, the Dorf family chooses a Disney character to design and build in the sand and everyone pitches in to make it happen. This year, Olaf from the film “Frozen” was the obvious choice since he wanted to experience summer, according to the family.

The Dorf family used a grid to trace the Olaf character in the sand and then filled it in with collected seaweed and a some food coloring. The final product is a fantastic beach Olaf in the sun we just had to share.
