PHOTOS – Hollywood Tower Hotel Authentic Merchandise Checks Into Disney Parks

posted on February 18th, 2015 by Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager

One morning not so long ago, I checked out the new Hollywood Tower Hotel Authentic merchandise that arrived at Tower Hotel Gifts in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. You may recall a previous story a few weeks ago discussing this new program that was inspired by the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror attraction at Disney Parks. Here’s a quick look at what I discovered beyond the fifth dimension.

NHM7457312

Upon entering Tower Hotel Gifts, I immediately noticed the new products displayed throughout the shop. The merchandise presentation team reworked many of the wall fixtures and added some new elements to the location. The shop now features a Tower Hotel Gallery with collectible artwork such as the art deco-inspired bellhop sign created by Disney Design Group artist Richard Terpstra. It was great seeing some of my other favorite items in the shop like the bellhop hat and the bell.

NHM7457313

The team also added a few nods to the original television series above the merchandise displays (look above the register area to find Talky Tina). I enjoyed seeing a luggage cart being used as a fixture for apparel, and the display for the Disney Theme Park Edition of Jenga is quite creative!

NHM7457314

Additional items will be arriving throughout this spring at both Disneyland California Adventure park in Disneyland Resort and at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World Resort. There will more apparel items for men and women (the women’s T-shirts will arrive toward May). There will also be a new black-colored bathrobe that is due to arrive around April. Finally, new drinkware and stationary will be added to the shops in the coming weeks.

Here is a gallery of other items I found. I hope you “drop in” sometime soon to check them out.

Can You Feel the Force? Star Wars Weekends is Getting Closer!

posted on February 17th, 2015 by Shawn Slater, Communications Manager, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Creative Entertainment

The Force is growing stronger here at Walt Disney World Resort as the galaxy prepares for this year’s Star Wars Weekends. If you’re as big a fan of the annual Disney’s Hollywood Studios event as I am, you’ll be excited to learn that several crowd-favorites are back in 2015, including James Arnold Taylor! Known for voicing characters such as Obi-Wan Kenobi on “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” Taylor will host the Stars of the Saga talk show with everyone’s favorite stormtrooper preshow at a new, larger location in Theater of the Stars on Sunset Boulevard.

Photo 1

Darth’s Mall is also moving to a new and expanded complex near Streets of America, where you can find Star Wars-themed and exclusive event merchandise just for Star Wars Weekends 2015.

One of my favorite out-of-this-world experiences to catch this year is the Jedi Mickey’s Star Wars Dine at Hollywood and Vine. My day just wouldn’t be complete without dinner surrounded by my favorite Disney pals dressed in their Star Wars best!

The galaxy won’t be so far, far away when beloved and iconic Star Wars characters assemble and “Summon the Force” each night for a grand celebration, including a look back at your greatest moments throughout the day on social media. For the finale, the night sky will erupt in an interstellar frenzy of fireworks as “Symphony in the Stars” salutes the saga’s most dramatic stories and brings you as close to the Force as you can get.

We’re still gathering all your favorite droids and scoundrels, so stay tuned to the Disney Parks Blog and StarWars.com for the latest updates. As we announced in December, the fun comes to our galaxy Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from May 15 – June 14, 2015. Check out StarWarsWeekends.com for all the must-know event details.

Are you planning on joining the Force? If so, which characters are you looking forward to seeing the most? For my boys, it’s the Jawas – they love to trade with those little guys! Let us know your favorites in the comments!

posted on February 6th, 2015 by Thomas Smith, Social Media Director, Disney Parks

As an update on our previously announced plans to bring Starbucks locations to our theme parks at Walt Disney World Resort, we officially opened the newest location this week – The Trolley Car Café at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

tcdhss123456

As we shared earlier, the Trolley Car Café is themed to a classic trolley car station and gives guests a sense of atmosphere from early 20th century Hollywood. We have some of the first photos to share from this week’s opening.

dtcwdw123456

The Trolley Car Café is located on the corner of Hollywood Boulevard and Sunset Boulevard at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and is now serving Disney baked goods and Starbucks La Boulange™ pastry items along with Starbucks coffee and espresso beverages.

The store is the third in-park location serving Starbucks products at Walt Disney World Resort, along with other locations at Magic Kingdom Park and Epcot, as well as at Downtown Disney. In addition to these locations at Walt Disney World Resort, there’s also another along the way.

Starbucks Rendering

Keep an eye on the Disney Parks Blog this summer for an update on the location at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Creature Comforts is being re-imagined and will also be serving Starbucks coffee and espresso beverages, as well as Frappuccino blended beverages and signature breakfast sandwiches and pastries.

Golden Carriage from ‘Cinderella’ Arrives at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

posted on February 4th, 2015 by Shawn Slater, Communications Manager, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Creative Entertainment

The exquisite golden carriage used in the production of Disney’s all-new, live-action “Cinderella” is on display at Disney’s Hollywood Studios! If you’re visiting the park between now and April 11, head down to the movie theater façade on Streets of America, where you’ll find the blue carpet rolled out for this special photo opportunity. It’s your chance to get a picture or snap a selfie with this stunning set piece from the upcoming film. When you do, be sure to share it with #Cinderella.

cinwdw333444

The carriage, created under the direction of Academy Award-winning Production Designer Dante Ferretti, was custom built for “Cinderella.” Decked out in gold leaf and measuring 10 feet tall and 17 feet in length, the carriage weighs nearly two tons – although it looks light as a pumpkin!

cinwdw203948

Inspired by the classic fairy tale, “Cinderella” brings to life the timeless images from Disney’s 1950 animated masterpiece in a visually dazzling spectacle for a whole new generation. Directed by Academy Award-nominee Kenneth Branagh from a screenplay by Chris Weitz, the film stars Lily James in the title role, Richard Madden as the Prince, Oscar-winner Cate Blanchett as the infamous wicked stepmother, and Academy Award-nominee Helena Bonham Carter as the Fairy Godmother.

While at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, you can also catch an extended sneak peek of “Cinderella” in the ABC Sound Studio. You can catch the entire film in theaters, beginning March 13.

Trend Spotting: Our Favorite Walt Disney World Resort Restaurants for Charcuterie

posted on January 30th, 2015 by Pam Brandon, Disney Parks Food Writer

PFD759041

Charcuterie, the fancy French term for preserved meats, is an age-old food preparation that’s popping up on lots of Walt Disney World Resort menus. The newest at Trattoria al Forno at Disney’s BoardWalk made us want to try them all.

PFD759042

We love that Trattoria al Forno features cured Italian meats on the breakfast menu with tomatoes, hard-boiled eggs and cheese with fonduta (an Italian melted cheese made with Fontina cheese). What a way to start the day with a press pot of good coffee. For dinner, the restaurant pairs the charcuterie with house-pickled peppers, rich olives, caponata (eggplant) and grilled bread.

On the dinner menu at Be Our Guest Restaurant in Magic Kingdom Park, the charcuterie for two includes assorted cured meats and sausages with tart cornichons, pickled onions and a toasted baguette. Pair this one with a crisp white wine to enhance the flavors.

Over at Epcot, we head to two spots: Chefs de France in the France pavilion, and Le Cellier Steakhouse in the Canada pavilion. The dinner menu at Chefs de France include assiette campagnarde, a rustic assortment of French patés and charcuteries that is trés authentique. At Le Cellier, the generous platter of meats comes with grilled sourdough and buttery Italian Robiola cheese.

PFD759043

At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, stop by the al fresco Hollywood Brown Derby Lounge for the artisanal cheese & charcuterie board for two that features salami Calabrese, salami Toscano, duck rillette (similar to paté), imported prosciutto and paté de campagne. Relax with a Champagne or martini flight, or one of the craft cocktails or wines by the glass.

Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa features charcuterie at both Cítricos and adjacent Mizner’s Lounge, a beautiful wooden board piled with prosciutto di Parma, sopressata, dry pork coppa, beef bresaola, Palacios chorizo, domestic artisanal salame, Pecorino Romano, Medjool dates, bread-and-butter pickles and Marcona almonds. That’s dinner!

At Disney’s Contemporary Resort, California Grill starts with handcrafted charcuterie with seasonal accompaniments. Downstairs at The Wave … of American Flavors, American-crafted cheeses, country-style paté and artisan cured meats are the stars of the charcuterie board.

Others on our list: Kona Café at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort mixes it up a bit with cured meats, olives, aged goat cheese, house-made bread and fruit compote on both the lunch and dinner menus. Yachtsman Steakhouse at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort kicks it up with suckling pig, country sausage, lardo and boar terrine on the charcuterie platter.

We’ll end over at cozy Territory Lounge at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, the “Northwest Charcuterie” include cured meats such as venison and bison sausage, liverwurst; artisan cheeses like creamy Rogue River Blue, cranberry-mustard, sweet pickles and walnut bread. This calls for a Moosehead!
