New Tastes on Flo’s V8 Café Menu at Disney California Adventure Park

posted on September 15th, 2014 by Pam Brandon, Disney Parks Food Writer

When you head for Cars Land at Disney California Adventure park, make a pit stop at Flo’s V8 Café to fill ‘er up. We’ve always been big fans of the Veggie-Tater Bake and any of Flo’s pies, but now there are new favorites vying for top spot on the menu.

Barbecued Pork Ribs at Flo's V8 Cafe at Disney California Adventure Park Roast Beef and Cheddar Sandwich at Flo's V8 Cafe at Disney California Adventure Park Turkey Dip at Flo's V8 Cafe at Disney California Adventure Park

Fall-off-the-bone barbecued pork ribs, with house-made Coca-Cola barbecue sauce replace the pork loin, served with creamy mashed potatoes and a side of crisp slaw. Also new is a hearty sandwich with shaved roast beef and cheddar on a garlic-chive bun topped with sweet, caramelized onions and kicky horseradish aioli, slaw on the side. The turkey dip also debuts on a potato grinder roll, with provolone cheese and turkey au jus for dipping and a side of pasta salad.

Ah, another pie joins the sweet line-up: coconut cream, making it tough to decide how to end the meal – maybe share that and the chocolate mud pie (or maybe the strawberry-rhubarb) with a friend.

Flo’s also adds Grand Am Beer on tap, joining the Racer 5 Pale Ale IPA.

Staying on the menu are the crowd-pleasing rotisserie chicken with mashed potatoes and veggies, ditto for the Citrus Turkey Salad, but with a twist: it’s now lettuce, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers and Craisins (those delightful dried cranberries) and a kicky citrus-tarragon dressing. And our favorite Veggie-Tater Bake is still there, a riff on shepherd’s pie made with bulgur wheat, roasted veggies, mashed potatoes and Cheddar cheese.

Do you have a favorite dish at Flo’s?

New Products Sailing This Fall on Disney Cruise Line

posted on September 15th, 2014 by Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager

With fall arriving in just a few short weeks, I stopped by the Disney Cruise Line merchandise showroom at Disney Theme Park Merchandise headquarters in Florida. Fall is one of two times during the year when a variety of new merchandise is introduced both at Disney Parks and on Disney Cruise Line. Here is a look at some new collections you will find the next time you are sailing.

The first program is called “Ahoy Minnie” and features a stylized Minnie Mouse in red, white and blue. The artwork was created by Disney Design Group artist Susan Foy. I like the use of the anchor and Minnie Mouse’s iconic polka-dot covered bow on several items that you can mix and match.

Knotted nautical rope is the foundation of design for the second collection called “Mickey Knots.” This program uses Mickey Mouse’s silhouette outlined with rope on apparel and home goods. I love the coffee mug that uses rope for the handle.

Falling into the category of “long overdue,” the team designed some Captain Mickey Mouse T-shirts. They remind me of the classic Mickey Mouse T-shirts that have been at Disney Parks for years. I love simple designs!

The team also designed a chalkboard-inspired art program that reminded me of the artwork created for Disney Centerpiece in the Marketplace Co-Op at Downtown Disney Marketplace.

Happy Sailing!

Return Time Tickets Help Disneyland Park Guests Meet ‘Frozen’ Favorites Anna and Elsa

posted on September 15th, 2014 by Erin Glover, Social Media Director, Disneyland Resort

Anna and Elsa, from Disney’s hit animated feature, “Frozen,” have been appearing in Disneyland park for some time, meeting guests at their special location in Fantasyland. Now, there is a new way to meet these famous sisters with a virtual wait system, which allows you to experience other attractions while you wait!

Guests visiting the “Frozen” character location in Fantasyland can present their valid park ticket or Annual Passport (used for park entry) to obtain a Return Time Ticket. On the ticket, they will be assigned a 20-minute window to return later in the day to meet with Anna and Elsa. There is no longer a standard queue for the location, and once all return times for the day have been distributed no more return times will be issued.

In addition to the location in Fantasyland, guests may also see Anna and Elsa in their special appearance before “Mickey’s Soundsational Parade” each day at Disneyland park.

Haunted Mansion at Disneyland Park: An Idea that Couldn’t be Laid to Rest

posted on September 12th, 2014 by Valarie Sukovaty, Disneyland Public Relations

Today is the first day of Halloween Time here at the Disneyland Resort. Pumpkins are everywhere and guest favorite, Haunted Mansion Holiday, is opening. Did you know that the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland park was one of Walt Disney’s ideas for the park even before it was built? Here we are, 45 years after its August 9, 1969, opening and it is still haunting guests each day. In celebration of the attraction’s anniversary and the opening of Haunted Mansion Holiday today, we thought this was the perfect time to dig up historical footage of the Haunted Mansion from our archives. You’ll see Walt Disney showing off a model of the Haunted Mansion and interviews with the Imagineers who turned his idea into a reality. You’ll also find out why the mansion is so pristine on the outside, while dilapidated and creepy on the inside. It’s a fun video – a scream, really. Enjoy!
