First Look at New Merchandise Collections at Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa

posted on October 27th, 2015 by Michelle Harker, Manager, Merchandise Marketing & Communications, Disneyland Resort

There are so many great things to experience and enjoy while vacationing at Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa, among them walking through the serene beauty of the Maka’ala Lobby, conquering the Menehune Adventure Trail, relaxing in the sun, splashing in the surf or taking time to enjoy a delicious shave ice. It’s no surprise that the last one would be my favorite. That’s why our designers and merchandisers creatively captured some of your favorite Disney characters enjoying experiences just like you! Take a look!

You’ll find this new art and individual characters like Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and Goofy on a variety of merchandise including adult and kids apparel, headwear, souvenirs, home décor items, drinkware and more. There’s something for everyone, no matter what you enjoy.

Also debuting this month is the Travel Collection. While it is a little bit more subtle in style, this retro-inspired program, comprised of three images, is a nod to vintage Hawai’i, with days spent relaxing on the shore, admiring the view or spending time in the ocean.

You simply can’t go wrong with this look. You’ll find the different art styles on a variety of items, including men’s and ladies’ outerwear, T-shirts, souvenirs, accessories and more.

Look for these new collections on your next visit at Kalepa’s Store.

Which collection are you most excited about?

New Snacks With Character Offer Better For You Snack Options at Disney Parks

posted on October 19th, 2015 by Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager

I’m delighted to share that guests now have new snack options at Disney Parks called Snacks with Character. This Disney-branded line of better-for-you snacks is great for guests looking for dietary alternatives related to food allergies or lifestyle choices. I recently spoke with Patrice Guy, merchandiser with Disney Theme Park Merchandise, about how these items were created.

“We listened to guests who said they wanted options when it comes to snacks at Disney Parks,” explained Patrice. “The Snacks with Character line was developed in collaboration with Merchandise Product Development, Food and Beverage Health and Wellness, Disney Design Group, and various suppliers in this field. We hope guests will enjoy these new tasty treats that are fun to share.”

To create these treats, Disney Theme Park Merchandise teamed up with well-known specialty suppliers such as Ocean Spray, Enjoy Life Foods, Way Better Snacks and WOW Baking Company. Several of the dietary needs addressed in the new assortment products include gluten-free, nut-free, and other allergy-friendly products.

The Snacks with Character line will launch with 11 new items. Look for the snack option from Ocean Spray later this year at Disney Parks.

Guests should look for these select items in merchandise locations at Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts, on Disney Cruise Line ships, and at Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa.

Select food and beverage locations at Walt Disney World Resort will also carry Snacks with Characters.

Duffy the Disney Bear’s Best Friend ShellieMay Coming to Disney Parks This Fall

posted on October 12th, 2015 by Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager

I’m excited to announce that ShellieMay, Duffy the Disney Bear’s best friend, will be coming to Disney Parks this fall. You may recall we introduced plush and accessories for Duffy the Disney Bear in fall 2010. ShellieMay debuted at Tokyo Disney Resort a few years ago, and was later added to Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa, in August 2014. She has been one of the most requested items from Duffy the Disney Bear fans at Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts in recent years.

As the story goes, ShellieMay was made by Minnie Mouse and filled her with joy so that Duffy would have a best friend by his side. We will introduce a 17-inch plush bear along with several costumes for dressing ShellieMay. Guests may also find a “My First ShellieMay” 12-inch plush bear.

Costumes will include fun things like a two-pack of costumes for dressing Duffy and ShellieMay as Cinderella and Prince Charming (please note this item will be arriving in late fall at Disney Parks). Other costumes will feature a deluxe Minnie Mouse costume or a deluxe pajama outfit.

Guests should look for several 12-inch pre-dressed plush including ShellieMay as a cheerleader and another with her enjoying a day at Disney Parks.

Finally, we are releasing a hardcover book that tells the story of ShellieMay along with a plush pillow. Both items will be perfect for bedtime stories. Look for ShellieMay items next to where Duffy the Disney Bear items are offered at Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resort. Guests may also find select items on our Disney Parks online store or from the new Shop Disney Parks app that is available as a free download from your favorite app store.

Discover With Me: Pineapple Soft Serve at Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa

posted on September 30th, 2015 by Tyler Slater, Public Relations Manager, Disney Destinations

By now, I’m sure it’s no surprise to our Disney Parks Blog readers that I love treats – especially at Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa. Not too long ago, we added a little more tropical magic to The Lava Shack in the Waikolohe Valley: the Pineapple Soft Serve! If you have been to the Disneyland Resort or Walt Disney World Resort, you have probably tasted this popular frozen treat. And at Aulani, it’s self-serve. Enjoy the video below as I try my hand at “swirling” up some pineapple perfection.

Unforgettable Details of Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa: Mural Panels

posted on September 22nd, 2015 by Tyler Slater, Public Relations Manager, Disney Destinations

Walt Disney Imagineering creative executive Joe Rohde played a pivotal role in the development of Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa. He and his team worked with the local community to ensure every unforgettable detail showcased the legacy of the Hawaiian people. Traditional stories are shared at every corner of the resort, including the exterior facades. Joe said, “precious things would often be enfolded by kapa bark cloth in the time of the old Hawaiians … and Aulani is sort of wrapped like a precious object, because it is important.” Today, the “Unforgettable Details of Aulani” series continues with a look at the towering mural panels that embrace guests with the spirit of aloha.

Native Hawaiian artist, Carl Pao, created a pair of boldly geometric bas-reliefs that pay tribute to the genealogy of this particular area of O’ahu – of Ko Olina and the district of ‘Ewa. The two exterior facades reference the rising and setting of the sun and the moon and have been appropriately placed facing east and west. Like the rest of Aulani, these panels evoke the balance between masculine and feminine, day and night, sun and moon.

Another local artist, Harinani Orme, created a bas-relief mural panel that pays homage to the Hawaiian seafarers through the image of a single outrigger canoe plying open ocean waters. Celestial bodies are present in the sky above, because the positions of the sun, moon and stars are critical navigational tools for the Hawaiians.

Be sure to ask cast members questions about details you discover during your vacation to Aulani; you never know what unforgettable story you may take back home!

A vacation to Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa, has something for everyone – including those looking to stay in shape. The Hawaiian resort offers energizing classes daily that cater to all types of workouts. Some of my favorites include: Paddle Fitness, Beach Body Blast and Ocean Yoga (yoga on a surfboard in the Ko Olina lagoon). We previously shared more about fitness classes on the Disney Parks Blog, but today we’re focusing our fitness fun on the Mikimiki Fitness Center!

This health club is a state-of-the-art 2,000-square-foot facility that features Life Fitness cardiovascular and strength training equipment, free weights and a stretching area. The Mikimiki Fitness center is open 24 hours and is included with all Aulani stays! Most recently, we welcomed the Kinesis machine to our fitness family.
