West Carteret Marching Patriots Make Marching Magic During Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade

posted on December 20th, 2012 by Tim Hill, Director of Disney Youth Programs

The Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade airs on December 25, but the holiday magic actually began back in September. That’s when Mickey Mouse and his friends from the Disney Performing Arts team travelled to Morehead City, N.C., to surprise 180 students at West Carteret High School.

What was the big news? The West Carteret Marching Patriots had been chosen to perform in the parade as the Disney Performing Arts guest marching band.

Out of the hundreds of bands who apply each year to participate in Disney Performing Arts workshops, festivals, and performance opportunities, West Carteret was selected to march down Main Street, U.S.A., in the biggest Disney parade of the year. Adding to the excitement, the Marching Patriots would march alongside Olympic gold medalist Gabrielle Douglas and perform The Olympic Fanfare.

The September announcement moment was a “wow” for the Marching Patriots, but then the hard work began. The band had less than three months to prepare for its moment in the spotlight. Students put in countless hours of practice, rain or shine, to perfect their music and marching routine. When the big day finally came, they turned the corner in front of Cinderella Castle and the crowd erupted in cheers from family, friends and other park guests thrilled to share in the moment.

Congratulations, West Carteret Marching Patriots, on all your hard work and achievements this year.

Check out the video to see the band’s parade journey from start to finish. The Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade airs December 25 on ABC. Check your local listings for air times.

Let Broadway’s ‘Newsies’ Take You Behind the Scenes at the ‘Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade’ Taping

posted on December 18th, 2012 by Jennifer Fickley-Baker, Social Media Manager

I was lucky enough to see the musical “Newsies” on Broadway in New York last year, and I have to say that I’m thrilled the cast will perform a number that’s never been seen before on TV in this year’s Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade, which will air Christmas morning on ABC on December 25.

While they were here, some of the cast participated in this behind-the-scenes video of their experience. Follow Newsies’ Corey Cott (Jack Kelly), Ryan Steele (Specs) and Jess LeProtto (Buttons) as they travel from their homebase at the Nederlander Theatre in New York, NY, here to Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World Resort to prepare for the taping. Once here, the “Newsies” cast learned an adapted routine to the show’s signature song, “Carrying the Banner,” which they performed on Main Street, U.S.A., inside the park. From the sneak peeks offered up in this video, it looks like their performance Christmas morning will be an absolute blast!

The “Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade” will air December 25 on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.

Brad Paisley Performs in Cars Land for Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade

Country superstar Brad Paisley recently taped a special performance at Disney California Adventure park for the Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade which airs on ABC December 25.

Brad is no stranger to Radiator Springs. You may remember he joined us for the grand opening of Cars Land in June, and of course, he sang two songs for the original soundtrack of the Disney•Pixar film “Cars.” One of those songs, “Behind the Clouds,” is the song you’ll see Brad perform Christmas Day on ABC. In the Eastern time zone, tune in from 10 a.m.-noon; in the Central, Mountain and Pacific time zones, tune in from 9-11 a.m. to catch all the fun from Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts!

Stars Shine at Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade Taping at Walt Disney World Resort

posted on December 3rd, 2012 by Gary Buchanan, Social Media Managing Editor

After the stars came out last month at the Disneyland Resort during the west coast taping of the Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade, the spotlight shifted to Walt Disney World Resort for its annual TV taping at the Magic Kingdom Park.

It’s all in preparation for December 25, when the award-winning parade telecast airs nationwide on the ABC Television Network from 10 a.m.-noon in the Eastern time zone, and 9-11 a.m. in the Central, Mountain, Pacific time zones. The show also will air in Canada on CBC Network, and around the globe on the American Forces Network.

Lady Antebellum Performs at the Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade Taping at Walt Disney World Resort

At Walt Disney World Resort, musical trio Lady Antebellum, who headlines this year’s parade, performed a seasonal song from their new holiday album “On A Winter’s Night.” Acoustic queen Colbie Caillat also performed a song from her new holiday release and Gospel legend Yolanda Adams took Cinderella Castle stage for an inspirational rendition of “Joy to the World.” Cast members from Disney’s Newsies: The Musical, “carried the banner” down Main Street, U.S.A., with a high-energy performance from the Tony Award-winning show, and “American Idol” champion Phillip Phillips sang “I’ll Be Home For Christmas” on Main Street, U.S.A. Also shining in the Magic Kingdom Park spotlight this weekend were Nick Cannon, who hosts this year’s TV special (tag-teaming with Mario Lopez, who hosts from Disneyland Resort) and parade co-host Maria Menounos.

And of course, no parade would be complete without fanciful floats and colorful cavalcades down Main Street, U.S.A. Dozens of Disney and Disney-Pixar characters don their holiday best to wish everyone a Merry Christmas during this 29th annual holiday TV special.

Be sure to tune in December 25 for all the fun. You can join the social media conversation before and during the telecast using the hashtag, #DisneyParade.
