posted on June 19th, 2015 by Jennifer Fickley-Baker, Social Media Manager

The Great Movie Ride, which transports Disney’s Hollywood Studios guests through film history, has been updated with some new interior and exterior enhancements thanks to a new relationship with Turner Classic Movies.

Guests visiting Disney’s Hollywood Studios can now enjoy an all-new photo opportunity that allows them to walk the red carpet and “cement” their handprints outside our Chinese Theatre. (Other enhancements inside include new digital movie posters in the queue (watch carefully to see the classic poster images move). A few new clips will be added into the attraction’s finale montage later this summer.

Guests will also hear new audio components during the tour from Robert Osbourne, actor and Turner Classic Movies film historian. The enhanced narration will assist attraction tour guides in leading guests from famous scene to famous scene, layering in more fun movie facts.

By the way, if you’re a huge fan of Disney films, you’ll want to check out “Treasures from the Disney Vault,” which airs on Turner Classic Movies July 2.

Star Wars Weekends Host James Arnold Taylor Checks Out Augmented Reality App Aurasma

posted on June 12th, 2015 by Jennifer Fickley-Baker, Social Media Manager

For the second year, Star Wars Weekends at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is using augmented reality to give guests a “virtual” experience on top of their real-world fun. Aurasma is a mobile application, free at the Apple App Store or Android Market for a smartphone or tablet.

Thanks to Aurasma and official technology provider HP, park guests can interact with the Star Wars Weekends logo and other locations around the Darth’s Mall shops. You open Aurasma and point your camera at special images, bringing them to life in surprising ways. Star Wars Weekends host (and voice of Obi-Wan Kenobi on “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” and the animated series “Star Wars Rebels) shows how to have fun with Aurasma in this video.

Tip: When you first open Aurasma, it will prompt you to register. If you choose, you can click “skip” on the final welcome screen.

Behind the Scenes: This Year’s Star Wars Weekends Creative Campaign

posted on June 11th, 2015 by Will Gay, Creative Director, Disney's Yellow Shoes Creative Group

ycuycu866881

Ready are you? We sure were. All of a sudden I look around and I am in the middle of the TV commercial shoot for the upcoming launch of this year’s Star Wars Weekends. This is one of those moments that I just think, “Are you kidding me? How did I get here in the middle of all this awesomeness and where did all these troopers come from?” It is a little surreal to say the least. Maybe it really did all start “A long time ago in a galaxy” … well you know. You see, my Jedi Master creative teammates and myself are huge Star Wars fans ourselves. We grew up watching the original trilogy and playing with everything Star Wars. So working on the creative for the latest campaign here at Yellow Shoes really was a dream come true for us.

After editing this great footage we shot right here at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, then adding in all the cool special effects, it was finally complete. And we are very excited to share with you today the finished spot we call, “Lit”.

strstr477992

Oh, and did you notice some very familiar footage in the beginning of the spot? How cool is that? Not to mention that iconic soundtrack that comes up at the end that can make a grown man get a little misty-eyed.

ycuycu887992

The idea behind this year’s campaign is simple: it’s as close to the Force as you can get. Everything plays out around the notion of going to Star Wars Weekends at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and you are literally surrounded by the Force and all things Star Wars.

‘Frozen Fever’ Added to the Lineup of Frozen Summer Fun at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

posted on June 5th, 2015 by Shawn Slater, Communications Manager, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Creative Entertainment

There’s little more than a week left until the start of Frozen Summer Fun, starting June 17 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This event already promises a day filled with all things “Frozen,” from the “Frozen Royal Welcome” in the morning to “Frozen” Fireworks at night. Now, “Frozen” fans, we’re really making the day a perfect day for you with the addition of special screenings of the new animated short, “Frozen Fever.”

ifpfip747911

Created by the same filmmaking team who brought us the original animated hit, “Frozen Fever” takes us back to Arendelle where Elsa has been planning the best birthday ever for her sister Anna. On the big day, though, Elsa comes down with a cold, producing some surprising and hilarious consequences.

“Frozen Fever” debuted in theaters with Disney’s live-action “Cinderella” and will be available for the first time to own as part of the Walt Disney Animation Studios Short Films Collection, coming to Digital HD and Disney Movies Anywhere on August 11 and to Blu-ray August 18.

During Frozen Summer Fun at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, you’ll be able to enjoy the new animated short “Frozen Fever,” along with a peek behind the scenes at the making of the film. “Frozen Fever” will be showing at the ABC Sound Studio, twice each hour beginning at 10 a.m. daily from June 17 – September 7.
