Pop Warner Athletes Win Big at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World

posted on December 19th, 2013 by Robert Hitchcock, PR Manager/Content Producer, runDisney

Last week the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort played host to the 2013 Pop Warner Super Bowl and National Cheer & Dance Championships. Sixty-four football teams and more than 400 cheer and dance teams from across the country, including Hawaii, battled their way through regional competitions to experience their “I’m going to Disney World” moment and play for national titles.

In addition to the competition on the field and on the floor, more than 8,700 athletes and 2,000 coaches enjoyed the Pop Warner Celebration Party at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, a Disney character breakfast, the opportunity to keep up with their studies at the OfficeMax Study Hall, and Disney sports recognized team moms at a Team Parent Information Session.

For 17 years, Pop Warner has called Disney home for Super Bowl week. It is the nation’s largest and oldest youth football, cheer and dance organization, and the only league that requires academic proficiency in order to participate. The NFL Players Association estimates roughly 70 percent of current NFL players, including Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow, Maurice Jones-Drew, Adrian Peterson and Ray Lewis, got their starts playing Pop Warner.

Whether you were a player, cheerleader, dancer, coach or parent, it was a great week of competition, sportsmanship and celebration. Congratulations to all the Pop Warner youth athletes for making it to the big time.

Playing and Dining with Doc McStuffins and Sofia the First at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

posted on December 17th, 2013 by Shawn Slater, Communications Manager, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Creative Entertainment

It’s hard to believe that Disney Junior Play ‘n Dine at Hollywood & Vine, the super fun character dining experience at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, is already in its eighth year! I have a lot of great memories of taking my boys there when they were younger, for a delicious breakfast or lunch and the chance for them to interact with some of their favorite Disney Junior characters.

Best of all, the experience at Play ‘n Dine has been updated over the years to include the newest characters, stories and music from Disney Junior shows on Disney Channel and the Disney Junior 24-hour channel.

Kids will get the chance to meet Doc and Sofia and dance along with them during a fun, new musical number right there in the restaurant!

Sofia the First and Doc McStuffins will be joining current favorites, Handy Manny and Jake from “Jake and the Never Land Pirates.”

With great character interactions and a tasty buffet, Disney Junior Play ‘n Dine at Hollywood & Vine offers something for every member of the family.

‘Glow With The Show’ Ear Hats Brighten Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights

posted on December 11th, 2013 by Jennifer Fickley-Baker, Social Media Manager

Have you visited Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights at Disney’s Hollywood Studios this year?

This year’s collection of dancing lights has been enhanced with Glow Ears, which allow park guests to become a part of the show as their ear hats light up. Earlier this year, ear hat technology was added to several existing entertainment options throughout Walt Disney World, including at “Fantasmic!” at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and “Celebrate the Magic” and “Wishes” fireworks at Magic Kingdom Park. Ear hats can also currently be used during performances of “Holiday Wishes: Celebrate the Spirit of the Season” fireworks during Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Parties.

Check out the video below for a look at a recent “surprise and delight” moment that took place during Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights for a group of Annual Passholders.
