'Sofia the First' and More New Stories Coming to Disney Junior – Live on Stage! in 2013 at Disney's Hollywood Studios and Disney California Adventure Park

As a father of twin boys, the Disney Junior – Live on Stage! show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney California Adventure park is a favorite stop whenever we visit those parks. One of the best things about the show is that it’s regularly updated to feature new characters and stories from the Disney Junior line-up on TV. Well, I’m excited to tell you (and them), that Disney Junior – Live on Stage! is primed to get another update in early 2013, when new hits “Doc McStuffins” and “Sofia the First” join “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” and “Jake and the Never Land Pirates.”

The new version of Disney Junior – Live on Stage! debuts at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in mid-February and comes to Disney California Adventure about a month later, in March 2013. And be sure to catch the premiere of the “Sofia the First” TV series Friday, Jan. 11 on Disney Channel and Disney Junior.

Finish That Disney Parks Sign: A Nod to a Favorite Holiday Film at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

posted on December 17th, 2012 by Jennifer Fickley-Baker, Social Media Manager

On my recent trip to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, I noticed this pile of crates positioned outside Min & Bill’s Dockside Diner.

Min & Bill's Dockside Diner at Disney's Hollywood Studios

Upon closer inspection, I noticed that one crate was addressed to one of my all-time favorite movie characters – George Bailey from “It’s a Wonderful Life.” (For fans of the film, note that the crate was addressed from Wainwright Enterprises in New York – love it!).

Do you remember the missing piece of George’s address that’s blurred out above? You may recall the name of his charming hometown of Bedford Falls, but what about the street address? If so, leave it in the “comments” section below. We’ll update the post later in the day with the answer.

Moms Panel Monday: Disney Parks After Dark

posted on December 3rd, 2012 by Laura Spencer, Social Media Manager, Walt Disney World Resort

The last few weeks when I leave the office I have felt a bit like Madam Leota. Cue spooky music here. It takes my internal clock at least three months to get acclimated to daylight savings time. In the fall and winter The Sunshine State seems more like a Doom Buggy, but that also means cooler, longer nights. Nighttime at a Disney Park is a horse of a different and magical color.
“Walt

Evenings at Walt Disney World Resort offer nocturnal fun for the whole family. What better way to celebrate the holidays than with fireworks, lights and parades? Moms Panelist Krista Curtis loves visiting the theme parks at night. In fact, several of her family traditions are held while Disney is dark.
“Wishes

At Magic Kingdom Park, Krista and her family set aside time to watch their favorite nighttime shows including Main Street Electrical Parade. With its twenty-three illuminated floats, over eighty performers and lively Disney theme songs, this parade is a perfect companion to Wishes Nighttime Spectacular. “Whether we watch from Main Street, U.S.A., one of the great spots inside Magic Kingdom Park or from a resort beach, ‘Wishes’ is a must-see for my family,” Krista says.

Another long-time family favorite is the Electric Water Pageant. This quaint, nostalgic floating parade takes place on the Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake. “Watching the ‘Electric Water Pageant’ from the shores of Disney’s Polynesian Resort is a lovely ritual for us along with dining at Hoop-Dee-Do Musical Revue.”
“Fantasmic!

On starry nights she suggests viewing IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth. At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, you definitely need to stay for Fantasmic! said Krista. For cooling off and spending quality time, the Curtis crew takes in a game of golf. That is, mini golf at Fantasia Gardens. “After the sun goes down the courses are cooler and my family loves a good game with friendly competition.”

My favorite “Disney After Dark” attraction is the holiday version of Cinderella Castle. Princess Mini-Me and I had a girls-only night a few weeks ago and attended Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. Arm in arm, we walked down Main Street, U.S.A. Actually it was less like walking and more rushing, as her long, coltish legs speed toward SpaceMountain with me dangling behind her like a Mickey balloon. That child hates gym but can move like greased lightening toward a thrill ride.

The castle glowed like a pixie-dusted sugarplum. It was truly larger than life. I know that I looked ridiculous holding her hand and intermittently placing kisses on her cheek. She was in full-scale “tween mode” and viewing me with embarrassment and horror. I don’t care. That castle, those kisses and the memory of the wafting scent of hot chocolate and cookies is a moment I will treasure forever.

What are your after-dusk customs?

Comedy Warehouse Cast Brings the Gift of Laughter to Disney’s Hollywood Studios

posted on November 29th, 2012 by Shawn Slater, Communications Manager, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Creative Entertainment

Last year, alumni of the former Comedy Warehouse on Pleasure Island were reunited at Disney’s Hollywood Studios for a limited run in “The Comedy Warehouse Holiday Special.” For seven short days, the show played to capacity crowds at the park’s ABC Sound Studio.

Well, today I have good news and better news! The good news is, “The Comedy Warehouse Holiday Special” is returning by popular demand. Better still, the show is moving to a larger venue, the Premiere Theater, and its run is being extended to 14 days. Now, even more Comedy Warehouse fans and park guests will have a chance to participate in this uniquely hilarious live show.

For the uninitiated, “The Comedy Warehouse Holiday Special” presents the best of family-friendly improvisational comedy, as performers take suggestions from the audience and add their own brand of humor right on the spot, inventing holiday songs, stories, poems and scenarios.

“’The Comedy Warehouse Holiday Special’ is like a family reunion of the Cast of the Comedy Warehouse,” said Show Director Chris Oyen. “We’re so happy to be able to bring everyone together again for the holiday season and to put on this show. It’s a gift from our family to yours.”

“The Comedy Warehouse Holiday Special” runs from December 23 through January 5 and is included in regular Disney’s Hollywood Studios park admission.

Imagineers Talk Working with Johnny Depp on The Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

posted on November 27th, 2012 by Jennifer Fickley-Baker, Social Media Manager

I absolutely love the “Pirates of Caribbean” film franchise, which is why I’m super excited to experience The Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow attraction, which will grand open at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on December 6.

The Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow is a walk-through attraction that will allow guests to follow in the footsteps of Jack Sparrow to see if they have what it takes to join his rowdy and daring pirate crew.

Walt Disney Imagineering just shared this amazing video with us, in which Imagineers Jason Surrell, Laura Mitchell, Charita Carter and Jason Roberts take us behind the scenes of the making of this new experience. According to them, creating an entirely new attraction based on the “Pirates of the Caribbean” film franchise was a dream come true, as was working with the film’s lead actor, Johnny Depp, who reprised his role as Captain Jack Sparrow for the attraction’s film elements.

See what else they had to say:
