Cast Members Enjoy Exclusive Surprises During Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration

posted on July 31st, 2015 by Kevin Rafferty, Jr., Communications Specialist, Disneyland Resort

We’ve been dazzling guests with surprises since the launch of the Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration – and as part of “60 Days of Dazzle,” our cast members are being surprised, too! Exclusive opportunities for us are one of my favorite parts of working at the Disneyland Resort. Here’s a look at how we are being dazzled during the Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration:

  • Through August 15, the Diamond Mine Cart, a specially wrapped van covered in magnets, is traveling around backstage areas for cast members to pull a magnet and discover giveaways including games and movie tickets.
  • Cast members are experiencing “Random Acts of Magic” by having their lunch and coffee tabs picked up at cast dining locations periodically. Often, this is done for 60 cast members at a time.
  • Fun photo opportunities, daily treats and commemorative items rounded out “cast appreciation week” for the 60th anniversary.
  • Nearly 3,000 cast members were picked up from their parking location in a Cast Cab, presented by Alamo, and driven to work while being treated to snacks along the way. Their drivers were Disneyland Resort leaders dressed in chauffeur attire!

“Our cast members create happiness every day for our guests,” said John Van Winkle, cast activities programs and operations manager. “This is our way of creating some magic for them during the Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration and letting them know how much they are truly appreciated for all they do.”

As the Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration continues, adults and children visiting the Downtown Disney District will be entertained nightly, beginning this Saturday, by a special lineup of guest music groups, including some Downtown Disney District favorites, on the Westside Stage near ESPN Zone and Earl of Sandwich.

From 6-10 p.m. throughout August, and into the first week of September, each night of the week will be devoted to a different musical style:

  • Caribbean on Mondays
  • Latin on Tuesdays
  • Country on Wednesdays

Island Reggae Band appears each Monday night through Labor Day, September 7, for the Caribbean performances.

Tuesday Latin nights, August 4, 11, 18, 25 and September 1, feature Adelaide, the hot new cumbia and rock en Español band that was one of the hits of Disney ¡Viva Navidad! at Disney California Adventure park, and will be featured again for this year’s holidays.

Country fans will want to come out on Wednesdays for the Doo-Wah Riders, August 5, 12 and 26 and September 2. Ry and the Hillbillies will take the stage on August 19

A varied lineup of bands take the stage Thursdays for Rockabilly nights: Rumble Kings on August 6, Crown City Bombers on August 20, Ry Bradley on August 27 and Rayford Brothers on September 3.

On Thursday, Aug. 13, while some guests enjoy the ticketed “Taste of Downtown Disney” event to benefit CHOC – Children’s Hospital of Orange County, the Westside Stage will feature music by Phat Cat Swinger.

posted on July 29th, 2015 by Michelle Harker, Manager, Merchandise Marketing & Communications, Disneyland Resort

Do you know what time it is? It’s time for the next release in the Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration “Decades” collection! Not too long ago, I shared the art that would appear during the celebration, but here’s your first look at some of the merchandise featuring the 1965–1974 artwork. Be sure to check out the new collection starting July 30 at select locations throughout the Disneyland Resort. Tip: If you haven’t had a chance to collect the first set of items in the “Decades” program, there’s still time. But don’t wait – items are in limited supply.

Before I go, I have a few other reminders for you. If you have been collecting the Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration pressed coins, be sure to pick up the newest ones featuring the “Decades” art at World of Disney Store in the Downtown Disney District!

I know that many of you were hoping to participate in the Looking for Mickey Quest. So, I wanted to make sure to tell you that the Looking for Mickey Quest has been extended. Be sure to join in the fun today!

And because I’m on a roll, how about a sneak peek? Here’s a look at one of the final pieces of art in the “Decades” series. Is it the last one? You’re going to have to watch and see. Tip: If you are attending D23 EXPO 2015, look for a tee featuring similar art before it debuts in summer 2016.

First Disneyland Resort Million Dollar Dazzle Gift Benefits Girl Scouts of Orange County’s Comadres Outreach Program

posted on July 24th, 2015 by Kevin Rafferty, Jr., Communications Specialist, Disneyland Resort

GSOOC4774685

As Erin shared last week, Girl Scouts of Orange County was named the first recipient of our Million Dollar Dazzle program. Each month of the Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration, we will select one or more local nonprofits that enrich the lives of children and families and surprise them with a $60,000 gift, amounting to more than $1 million.

We surprised dozens of Girl Scouts at a special breakfast at The Golden Horseshoe with a check presented by Disneyland Resort President Michael Colglazier, Disney Ambassador Jessica Bernard and, of course, Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse! The funds will support the organization’s Comadres outreach program which helps the Girl Scout experience transcend language and cultural barriers for girls in low-income neighborhoods.

“Girl Scouts of Orange County is thrilled to receive the first $60,000 gift,” said Nancy Nygren, CEO of Girl Scouts of Orange County. “The funds will be used to recruit and train volunteers who can facilitate the Girl Scout experience for girls in low-income areas while strengthening families.”

Stay tuned in the coming months for updates about other nonprofit organizations that will be surprised as part of Million Dollar Dazzle!
