Today in Disney History: Fantasy Faire Opens at Disneyland Park, 2013

posted on March 12th, 2014 by Erin Glover, Social Media Director, Disneyland Resort

One year ago today, we celebrated the expansion of Fantasyland at Disneyland park with the addition of Fantasy Faire, featuring the Royal Hall (where Disney princesses meet guests each day), the Royal Theatre (featuring the tales of “Tangled” and “Beauty and the Beast”) and Maurice’s Treats (serving delicious pastry twists and the wonderful Boysen Apple Freeze). I recently stopped by the Royal Theatre to chat with Mr. Smythe and Mr. Jones, who join Rapunzel and Belle onstage each day, about the one-year anniversary of this new Disneyland park guest favorite.

What is your favorite part of Fantasy Faire? Tell us in the comments!

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon Renew Vows with Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings at Disneyland Park

posted on May 2nd, 2013 by Korri McFann, Worldwide Marketing & Business Development Director, Weddings & Honeymoons

We had the pleasure of working with Mariah Carey on the vision for her vow renewal for almost a year, and like most brides, she wanted to feel like a princess on her big day. We couldn’t think of a better place to commemorate five years of wedded bliss – and Roc and Roe’s second birthday – than at Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland park. It doesn’t get much more royal than that!

The evening started with a birthday party at Fantasy Faire fit for a mini prince and princess where guests were served everything from ‘mocktails’ to cotton candy. And of course no birthday is complete without cupcakes and a happy birthday serenade.
“Mariah

After the celebration, guests moved over to Sleeping Beauty Castle where the forecourt was dripping in 10,000 crystals and over 15,000 blooms imported from Holland, South America and France. Mariah arrived in regal style accompanied by her daughter Monroe in the Crystal Coach where they were met by Nick and Roc clad in matching Prince Charming outfits.

The reception was filled with toasts, a few rides on attractions and Nick spinning as the DJ. It’s safe to say this after-hours private event was straight out of a fairy tale and filled with love.

From all of us here at Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings & Honeymoons, congratulations Mariah, Nick, Roc and Roe!

Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze, Jr., Preview Fantasy Faire at Disneyland Park

posted on March 8th, 2013 by George Savvas, Public Relations Director, Disneyland Resort

With only a few days until Fantasy Faire debuts on March 12, actress Sarah Michelle Gellar and her husband, actor Freddie Prinze, Jr., got an opportunity to experience this enchanting new area in Fantasyland at Disneyland park with their 3-year-old daughter, Charlotte.

While making our way through Fantasyland, Sarah mentioned to me that they knew all about our new Fantasy Faire and that she and Freddie were really excited to be able to preview it with their daughter. Then, this happy family got even happier when we arrived and Rapunzel stopped by for a special visit following her appearance in the new show at the Royal Theatre.

Sound the Trumpets! Fairy Tale Treasures Opens March 12 at Fantasy Faire in Disneyland Park

posted on March 4th, 2013 by Michelle Harker, Manager, Merchandise Marketing & Communications, Disneyland Resort

It’s official! Fairy Tale Treasures, one of the enchanting locations at Fantasy Faire in Disneyland park, will open its doors March 12. You’ll find this quaint little store filled with costumes, accessories and endless storytelling, themed to our beloved Disney Princesses. This location, with its royal Old-World European charm and medieval ambiance can be found nestled between the Royal Theatre and the Royal Hall.

Now here’s what I consider one of the fun and kind of hidden secrets about the shop, and I expect all of you to look for it. You’ll find an acorn hidden in the sign shaped as a treasure chest and filled with baubles and beads that hangs above the doorway. Why, you ask? Well I just happen to have that answer from Michel Den Dulk, Creative Director, Walt Disney Imagineering.

“I was inspired by several of our classic fairy tale films like ‘Cinderella’ and ‘Sleeping Beauty,’ where woodland creatures, critters and birds interact with humans to help make clothes or help dress someone”, says Michel. “For those critters and creatures, our human valuables, such as gold, diamonds, crowns, etc., probably don’t mean much, but a beautiful shiny acorn on the other hand, does. So we tied in the theme of a squirrel adoring the acorn as a treasure, which is something that was fun to create and also ended up being an underlying motif in the shop.”

What are you most excited to see when Fantasy Faire opens on March 12?

Cinderella and Rapunzel Visit Their New Homes at Fantasy Faire in Disneyland Park

posted on February 28th, 2013 by Erin Glover, Social Media Director, Disneyland Resort

As Paul told you yesterday, he recently had the opportunity to photograph the new Fantasy Faire, opening March 12 at Disneyland park. While he was there, he met up with a few familiar faces.

I’m sure you will agree that the setting is almost as lovely as the princesses who will appear there. Above, Cinderella is seen inside the new Royal Hall, where she and her princess friends will meet Disneyland park guests each day. And you can also see Rapunzel getting comfortable next to a replica of her famous tower, which sits at the center of Fantasy Faire. You can see Rapunzel when she joins Messieurs Smythe and Jones in the telling of her own tale inside the Royal Theatre.

Keep an eye here on the Disney Parks Blog for more information and peeks into Fantasy Faire as we keep getting closer to the March 12 opening!

Clopin, Figaro and Tangled Tower Take Their Places in Fantasy Faire at Disneyland Park

posted on February 27th, 2013 by Erin Glover, Social Media Director, Disneyland Resort

Yesterday, I gave you a sneak peek at Clopin’s Music Box, an interactive element coming to Fantasy Faire when it opens March 12 at Disneyland park. Today, I’m excited to share a video of the installation of this piece, along with two other charming details: Tangled Tower, which is located in the center of Fantasy Faire, and – my favorite element of this new area – Figaro the cat from “Pinocchio.” Watch as Michel Den Dulk, Creative Director, Walt Disney Imagineering, tells us more about these magical features.

Clopin’s Music Box Adds to Old-World Charm of Fantasy Faire at Disneyland Park

posted on February 26th, 2013 by Erin Glover, Social Media Director, Disneyland Resort

As we’ve learned already from Michel Den Dulk, Creative Director, Walt Disney Imagineering, the new Fantasy Faire at Disneyland park is designed to reflect the Gothic, Old-World feeling that guests experience in Fantasyland. In addition to the influence seen in the area’s architecture, Imagineers have imbued the entire area with the same Old-World charm through details like Clopin’s Music Box – an interactive element guests will discover at Fantasy Faire.

Clopin’s Music Box Adds to Old-World Charm of Fantasy Faire at Disneyland Park

“It’s really like a very big music box,” says Michel. “When guests peek inside the window, they will see a scene that has our main character, Clopin from Disney’s ‘The Hunchback of Notre Dame’ inside.” By turning a crank on the front of the music box, guests will set the scene in motion to the tune of “Topsy Turvy.”

“The whole scene comes to life,” says Michel. “Clopin starts to dance, and Quasimodo will peak out of the bell tower on Notre Dame Cathedral … the sun will go down, and the moon will go up.”

Keep an eye on the Disney Parks Blog for more details on Fantasy Faire – and come see it for yourself when the new area opens at Disneyland park on March 12.
