‘Rock the Dots’ with Disney Parks Merchandise on January 22 for National Polka Dot Day

posted on January 21st, 2016 by Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager

minni4011

Did you know National Polka Dot Day will be observed on January 22? Since 1928, Disney First lady and fashionista Minnie Mouse has rocked polka dots through her fun-loving, timeless and positive spirit that inspires Disney fans and polka dot fashionistas around the globe. At Disney Parks, guests can “rock their dots” every day with polka dot fashions from bows and blouses to designer purses and jewelry. I recently visited Disney Springs Marketplace to find some of the best Minnie Mouse products we carry.

minni342

There are numerous items featuring Minnie Mouse for guests of all ages. For kids, we offer apparel, shoes, hats, dresses and more. As a side note for parents, I learned there will be three new “Minnie’s Bow-Toons” shorts premiering on Disney Channel during the morning of January 22.

Adults will find Minnie Mouse-themed charms by PANDORA Jewelry, stylish apparel and accessories from the Disney Boutique collection, coffee mugs, and other souvenirs such as hand sanitizers or pins.

I also discovered that retail MagicBand on Demand is now available at the D-Tech on Demand boutique in the Marketplace Co-Op. This creation station has a few Minnie Mouse designs which can be added to a phone case or a retail MagicBand.

In celebration of our favorite style muse Minnie Mouse, I invite you to show us how you “Rock the Dots” by sporting your favorite polka dot look. Just tag your photos on social media channels with #RockTheDots.

Here are images of other items that you may find at Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney World Resort or on the free Shop Disney Parks mobile app.

Purple Retail MagicBand and More Coming Soon to Walt Disney World Resort

posted on December 17th, 2015 by Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager

Some of the most popular Disney Parks Blog stories in 2015 have been about retail MagicBands. With only a few weeks left in this year, here is an update about new and upcoming retail MagicBands at Walt Disney World Resort.

NMBC480681

One of the most requested MagicBand colors this year was purple. In fall, we introduced a purple option for guests who create retail MagicBands at the Tomorrowland Light & Power Co. in Magic Kingdom Park. I have even more exciting news! Soon, guests will be able to find an individual purple retail MagicBand in select Walt Disney World Resort merchandise locations. This solid color retail MagicBand will join the other solid color MagicBands we currently offer. Look for the purple retail MagicBand in late December.

Another popular MagicBand request this year was for the Orange Bird which I discussed in a previous Disney Parks Blog article. This retail MagicBand was recently released along with a Princess Tiana MagicBand and a red holiday sweater pattern MagicBand featuring Mickey Mouse.

NMBC480683

In addition to retail MagicBands, we have new MagicBand-its inspired by classic Disney characters and attractions at Disney Parks. These small accessories can be easily attached to the side of any MagicBand.

NMBC480684

We’ve added new artwork to the previously mentioned Tomorrowland Light & Power Co. location. They include Orange Bird (which you can now have printed on eight different colors including orange or green as pictured). We also have A-E Tickets that are reminiscent of ticket books once used at Disney Parks until the early 1980s.

NMBC480685

Finally, we will have two new MagicBands celebrating 2016 that will be released on January 1, 2016.

You may find select retail MagicBands using the free Shop Disney Parks mobile app. Some retail MagicBands I mentioned may be available first on the app before being released in merchandise locations at Walt Disney World Resort. To download, please visit DisneyWorld.com/Shop.

New Orange Bird Home Décor and More Landing This Fall at Disney Parks

posted on October 26th, 2015 by Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager

orlorl376901

Long time readers of the Disney Parks Blog know I have a special place in my heart for the happy little Orange Bird. He returned to Adventureland at Magic Kingdom Park in 2012, and can now be found in the Sunshine Tree Terrace location. Last year, we introduced several Orange Bird-themed products at Disney Parks (yes, I have them all). I’m happy to report additional items will be arriving soon.

These new home décor items will include two small kitchen towels decorated with Orange Bird graphics. An Orange Bird coffee mug, small dish, and salt and pepper shakers are also planned. These items were designed to complement the previously released bowl, orange juice pitcher and small juice glasses. I can’t wait to “Think Orange Thoughts” while enjoying my morning cup of coffee!

One of my favorite items (besides the coffee mug) will be the new, open edition retail MagicBand coming this December to select Walt Disney World Resort merchandise locations.

Once these items are released at Disney Parks, you may find select products using the free Shop Disney Parks app. This video shows you how easy it is to use the app to find favorite Disney Parks merchandise and have those items shipped directly to your home.

Retail MagicBand on Demand Opens in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom Park

posted on October 23rd, 2015 by Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager

dmbsbp3841

Guests now have a new option to create and personalize retail MagicBands at Walt Disney World Resort. We recently opened a new retail MagicBand on Demand station inside the Tomorrowland Light & Power Co. location near Space Mountain in Magic Kingdom Park. This new option for guests is similar to the D-Tech on Demand boutique first introduced in June 2014 at the Marketplace Co-Op in Disney Springs Marketplace (as seen in this video).

Retail MagicBand on Demand Opens in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom Park CAPTION

At the Tomorrowland location, you may choose to create either a retail MagicBand or a D-Tech phone case. If creating a retail MagicBand, we offer your choice of eight different MagicBand colors including purple.

MBOD48054

There are also approximately 40 graphics to apply to your custom MagicBand. There will be a few MagicBand graphics that will only be found in this location that salute classic Magic Kingdom Park attractions and icons (the first image in this story has a few examples).

In addition to artwork, the retail MagicBand can be personalized with a name printed on the outside.

dmbsbp3845

Once designed, the retail MagicBand is printed in the location. The printers use UV ink which dries immediately and requires no cooling time.

For the final step, the custom retail MagicBand can be either associated to your My Disney Experience account, or you can give it as a gift to friends or family who may be visiting Walt Disney World Resort soon.

Retail for a custom retail MagicBand is $24.99 while a personalized retail MagicBand is $32.99.

Some Favorite Ways to Experience Epcot International Food & Wine Festival Sept. 25-Nov. 16

posted on August 25th, 2015 by Pam Brandon, Disney Parks Food Writer

We’re counting down the days and deciding the best ways to take advantage of all the food, wine, celebrity chefs, live music and more at the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival.

PEPO489637

Looking ahead, here are three ideas to maximize your fun. We love the idea of the new 20th Festival Tasting Sampler that gives you a credential (and a cool collectible pin) to taste your way around the fest. For $59 you get your choice of eight tastes of food or beverages at all of the 30 marketplaces plus priority seating at the nightly Eat to the Beat concert.

Your credential will include ideas for pairing a dish and a drink at the marketplaces – we’re excited to try some of the new dishes such as the pepper bacon mac ‘n’ cheese paired with a hard cider at Farm Fresh Marketplace (both new); lamb meatball with spicy tomato chutney and a pinot noir at New Zealand (both new), and the butter chicken with naan bread with a chenin blanc in Africa. There are 29 new dishes this year, and 72 new cocktails, beers, wines and ciders!

We’ve always had fun at Eat to the Beat, and this year’s dining package includes lunch or dinner at 13 different restaurants from Coral Reef Restaurant and The Garden Grill in Future World to France, Italy, Germany, Mexico, Japan, Morocco and United Kingdom. This is a nice “plan ahead” experience.

Price varies by restaurant, starting at $34.99 for lunch and includes appetizer, entrée, dessert and drink or buffets. And then you get guaranteed seating at the 5:30 p.m. Eat to the Beat concert for lunch reservations, and the 6:45 or 8 p.m. show for lunch or dinner.

Fan favorites are back on the America Gardens Theatre stage, including Wilson Phillips, Smash Mouth, The Pointer Sisters, Jo Dee Messina, Boyz II Men and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. And there are four new acts in the concert series lineup — Tiffany, Everclear, Maxi Priest and Chaka Khan.

For a really special treat, set aside a week for the Food & Wine Premium Package that gives you VIP treatment from noon- 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday at the festival. Eleven shaded “Premium Package” areas are reserved for a spot to eat, drink and relax, and you get to choose an IllumiNations Sparkling Dessert Party to attend, as well as a Festival Center culinary demo or beverage seminar.

Cost is $199, and you also get a gift bag with your own wine glass, a bottle of 20th celebration festival wine, a Food & Wine Fest-themed MagicBand and four food tickets for food or beverage from festival marketplaces.

For reservations, call 407-939-3378. Admission to Epcot is required.
