Night of Joy Artist Spotlight: Kutless at Magic Kingdom Park

posted on September 9th, 2011 by Charles Stovall, Public Relations Manager

Today’s Night of Joy Artist Profile shines the spotlight on Kutless.

Night of Joy Artist Spotlight: Kutless

On the surface, the guys from Kutless look like your basic, average rockers; but they have been the impetus for some of the most soulful praise and worship music in recent years, selling more than two million records across the last decade or so.

Hailing from the Portland, Ore., area, Kutless has had a unique trajectory in the Christian Music industry. From hard-edged college band to mainstream worship artist has been a huge transition for them. For most of the band’s history, pounding guitars and power ballads were the norm, with traditional Christian radio stations picking up a song here and there – like title tracks from their second and third albums, Sea of Faces and Strong Tower and “Promise of a Lifetime” from 2006’s Hearts of the Innocent.

In 2009, they changed direction a bit, creating their first praise and worship record, It is Well. One can’t argue with the success. Fans of Christian radio have embraced It is Well wholeheartedly, with singles like “That’s What Faith Can Do” and “Everything I Need” even making the Adult Contemporary Christian and Inspirational charts. But that doesn’t mean the guys have lost any of their edge. When asked whether the project they are currently working on will be a “rock record” or a “worship record,” the answer is simply “Yes.”

2011 will bring the guys fourth appearance at Night of Joy. Guitarists James Mead and Nick DePartee stopped by the Magic Kingdom Park during a promo tour to chat about some of their past Night of Joy experiences and a just happen upon on special guest.

Kutless will be performing at Disney’s Night of Joy on Saturday, Sept. 10. Here’s the rest of the line-up:

  • Friday, Sept. 9, 2011: Skillet, newsboys, Jeremy Camp, Matthew West, Francesca Battistelli, Group 1 Crew, Sidewalk Prophets and Disciple.
  • Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011: mercyme, Tobymac, Jars of Clay, Sanctus Real, Chris August, Marvin Sapp and Vashawn Mitchell.

Night of Joy is an after-hours event, held Sept. 9 and 10, 2011, at Magic Kingdom Park that requires a special ticket. Event hours are 7:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. each evening. While artists are performing at several stages, many popular Magic Kingdom Park attractions also are available for Night of Joy guests. Tickets are on sale now. One-night tickets are $51.95 plus tax in advance, $59.95 plus tax day of. Two-night tickets are $92.95. Night of Joy Artist Spotlight: TobyMac

posted on September 5th, 2011 by Charles Stovall, Public Relations Manager

Today’s Night of Joy artist profile focuses on a virtual veteran of the Christian Music industry, Grammy-and-Dove-Award winner TobyMac. From his early days with the group dcTalk to his phenomenal success as a solo artist to the creation of his record label, Gotee Records, Toby has been a major force on the Christian Music scene for more than two decades.

TobyMac

Countless performers cite Toby as an influence on their music and their lives; and with each new record, including his newest smash “Tonight,” he continues a seemingly-endless quest to bring hip-hop, funk and soul to mainstream Christian Music. Together with the DiverseCity band, Toby transitions easily from high-energy hits like “Funky Jesus Music” to soulful ballads like the GMA-Dove-Award-Nominated “City On Our Knees.”

In his non-music life, Toby is an avid golfer and runner. He participates in various charity golf tournaments and has hosted a charity tournament with fellow Christian Music performer Michael W. Smith. Toby and wife Amanda have combined their love of running and their heart for others into an annual charity event where they host fans to pre-event race activities before the Country Music Half Marathon in Nashville, with proceeds benefiting the New Hope Academy, a community school in Franklin, TN. This year, “Team TobyMac” raised more than $100,000 for the Academy.

On a break from touring earlier in the year, Toby stopped by the Magic Kingdom and talked with us about what the past year has been like for him and the DiverseCity crew and what fans can expect from their Night of Joy performance.

Toby will be performing at Disney’s Night of Joy on Saturday, Sept. 10. Here’s the rest of the line-up:

  • Friday, Sept. 9, 2011: Skillet, newsboys, Jeremy Camp, Matthew West, Francesca Battistelli, Group 1 Crew, Sidewalk Prophets and Disciple.
  • Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011: mercyme, Jars of Clay, Sanctus Real, Kutless, Marvin Sapp, Chris August and Vashawn Mitchell.

Night of Joy Artist Profile: Disciple

posted on June 30th, 2011 by Charles Stovall, Public Relations Manager

One of the hallmarks of Disney’s Night of Joy is that there are artists representing every sliver of the Christian-music spectrum.

Night of Joy Artists Disciple at Magic Kindgom Park

Leading the charge for this year’s lovers of harder-edged Christian music is the GMA-Dove-Award-winning quintet, Disciple.

Originating from Knoxville, TN, in 1992, the band has gone through a number of transitions throughout the years, with them blasting out hits for INO/Columbia Records since 2005. In their own words, their fourth hit album for INO/Columbia, Horseshoes and Handgrenades, “honed in on their heavy rock n’ roll roots for several of their most explosive offerings to date, while also exploring the more melodic side of the dial.” Their music is loaded with spiritual sentiments, spanning subjects as diverse as hope, redemption, perseverance and self-esteem. Horseshoes and Handgrenades won the 2011 GMA Dove Award for Rock Album of the Year.

Lead singer Kevin Young, guitarists Micah Sannan and Andrew Welch, bassist Israel Beechy and drummer Trent Reiff took a break from touring a little while back to stop by Magic Kingdom Park. Always up for some He-ARR-ty fun, the guys took a turn at the Pirates League – getting official pirate names and makeovers and taking the “Pirate Oath.”

Disciple will be performing at Disney’s Night of Joy on Friday, Sept. 9. Night of Joy is an after-hours event, held Sept. 9 and 10, 2011, at the Magic Kingdom that requires a special ticket. Event hours are 7:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. each evening. While artists are performing at several stages, many popular Magic Kingdom attractions also are available for Night of Joy guests. Disney’s Night of Joy Band Profile – BarlowGirl, Tenth Avenue North

posted on September 10th, 2010 by Charles Stovall, Public Relations Manager

Today’s artist profile has something for the guys and the girls – you decide which is which.

The three sisters that make up BarlowGirl – Alyssa, Becca and Lauren – are no strangers to the Night of Joy stage. 2010 will be the girls’ fourth year at Night of Joy. Probably best known for the haunting single “Never Alone,” BarlowGirl have five studio albums; countless hours of touring and tons of accolades under their belts. The girls took a break from their busy schedule to tell us about their first experience at Night of Joy.

In contrast to the sisters of BarlowGirl, the four guys from Tenth Avenue North have never played Night of Joy before; but we are SUPER excited to have them this year. As first timers, the “Tenth” guys – as we call them in The Biz – have exploded onto the Christian music scene over the past year with huge singles like “By Your Side” and “Hold My Heart” and were named GMA Dove Awards New Artist of the Year at the 40th Annual GMA Dove Awards.

Tenth Avenue North’s highly anticipated sophomore album, The Light Meets The Dark, debuted in May 2010 at No. 1 on the Nielsen Christian SoundScan chart and No. 15 on the Billboard Top 200. The new album also secured the No.1 Christian Album chart position at both iTunes and AmazonMP3, and reached Top 5 on the iTunes overall chart.

We caught up with the guys at rehearsals for the Dove Awards in April and they told us “What fans can expect” from the Tenth Avenue North show at Disney’s Night of Joy.

In addition to BarlowGirl and Tenth Avenue North, Casting Crowns, Third Day, mercyme and Chris Tomlin head a star-powered 16-act lineup set for Disney’s Night of Joy 2010 Sept. 10-11 when the long-running Christian music event makes its return to Magic Kingdom.

Also part of the two-night event (when specific acts play one evening each): David Crowder*Band, Family Force 5, Red, Day of Fire, Smokie Norful, Lecrae, Sidewalk Prophets, Thousand Foot Krutch and Britt Nicole.

ONE QUICK NOTE: We’ve a had a time change from our original schedule post on the Blog. Friday night’s performances by Chris Tomlin and Casting Crowns have switched times, with Chris performing on the Cinderella Castle stage at 9:45 p.m. and Casting Crowns performing there at 11:45 p.m. As we always say, times and artists are subject to change.

Night of Joy tickets and additional information about the event are available at www.nightofjoy.com. You can also get live updates from the event via our Twitter account – @WDWNightofJoy.

Tonight’s event is sold out, but there are still tickets available for tomorrow night.

Disney’s Night of Joy Band Profile – MercyMe

posted on September 1st, 2010 by Charles Stovall, Public Relations Manager

MercyMe for Night of Joy
Today’s Night of Joy Blog Post spotlights a band who is no stranger to Night of Joy, MercyMe. 2010’s event will be the fifth time MercyMe has graced the Night of Joy stages with their talent and testimony.

The group is probably best known for one of the most iconic songs in Christian Music, “I Can Only Imagine,” the first Christian song to ever have been digitally downloaded one million times. MercyMe’s latest project, The Generous Mr. Lovewell, gave the band the highest chart debut of their career, bowing in at No. 3 in the nation on Billboard’s Top 200 SoundScan Chart, and No. 1 on the overall Contemporary Christian SoundScan chart. The album’s message is simple – “love well” – extend kindness every day.

After a CD release party at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in April, the guys stopped by the Magic Kingdom for a bit. Minnie put on her best “heart-filled” dress in honor of The Generous Mr. Lovewell, and its “heart” theme.

In keeping to the “Lovewell” theme, MercyMe continue to be big supporters of Compassion International , a Christian child advocacy ministry that releases children from spiritual, economic, social and physical poverty and enables them to become responsible, fulfilled Christian adults. Compassion International has just signed on to be a sponsor of the Cinderella Castle stage at Night of Joy, where MercyMe will be performing.

Lead singer Bart Millard and the guys discuss the event’s return to the Magic Kingdom.

In addition to MercyMe, 2010 Christian music Artist of the Year Casting Crowns and past Christian music “Artists of the Year” Third Day and Chris Tomlin head a star-powered 16-act lineup set for Disney’s Night of Joy 2010 Sept. 10-11 when the long-running Christian music event makes its return to Magic Kingdom.

Also part of the two-night event (when specific acts play one evening each): David Crowder*Band, Family Force 5, Red, BarlowGirl, Day of Fire, Smokie Norful, Lecrae, Tenth Avenue North, Sidewalk Prophets, Thousand Foot Krutch and Britt Nicole.

Disney’s Night of Joy Band Profile – Casting Crowns

posted on August 26th, 2010 by Charles Stovall, Public Relations Manager

Casting Crowns with Stitch
Today’s Night of Joy update features one of the biggest selling bands in Christian Music history, Provident Music Group artist Casting Crowns.

The Crowns, who formed in the Daytona Beach area, have amassed nearly 5.1 million career album sales, a GRAMMY Award, an American Music Award and 23 Dove Awards in just six years of public life as a band. Their fourth album, Until The Whole World Hears, sold 167,000 copies first-week setting a sales record as the highest debuting Christian Music artist in SoundScan history; and Aug. 31 will see the release of a live CD/DVD of their “Until The Whole World Hears” tour.

In addition to their huge success as a band, the members of Casting Crowns are also active in their churches, some even – like lead vocalist Mark Hall – are full-time ministers in the suburbs of Southern Atlanta. Most weeks see Hall and team spend Sunday through Wednesday working in their churches – then, get on a bus Wednesday night and drive through the night to their first concert. With concerts usually Thursday through Saturday nights, they then drive back home, sleeping on the bus to be ready in time for Sunday morning service – and start the process all over again.

The band spent some of their almost non-existent free time at Walt Disney World this spring, meeting Stitch and riding the World Famous Jungle Cruise.

In addition to 2010 Christian music Artist of the Year Casting Crowns, past Christian music “Artists of the Year” Third Day, mercyme and Chris Tomlin head a star-powered 16-act lineup set for Disney’s Night of Joy 2010 Sept.
