Awaken the Force in 2016 with Unique Star Wars Products from Disney Parks

posted on January 14th, 2016 by Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager

Being a long time Star Wars fan, I loved watching “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” with my son in an IMAX 3D theatre. While I had already seen the film twice, I will always remember seeing the pure joy in his eyes as the action unfolded on screen. Now, he wants everything Star Wars (which seems vaguely similar to my childhood). Luckily, I work at Disney Parks which has some incredibly cool products for Star Wars fans of all ages. Here are a few of my favorites.

Force Push Role Play Action Set from Disney Parks BB-8 Spinning Top from Disney Parks

Force Push Role Play Action SetThis is my favorite item created especially for Disney Parks. This set gives you the power to move a First Order Stormtrooper or TIE Fighter with a wave of your Force Glove.

BB-8 Spinning Top – This BB-8 top spins, lights up and makes sounds when activated.

Star Wars Apparel from Disney Parks Star Wars Apparel from Preen by Thornton Bregazzi Available at Disney Parks

Be the Best Dressed in the Galaxy – Disney Parks has apparel items for women, men and children. The women’s shirts with Rey are gorgeous, and the BB-8-inspired dress from Her Universe is fun. I also liked the ringer t-shirt with Han Solo and Chewbacca.

Apparel From Preen by Thornton Bregazzi – We are now offering two luxurious items from Preen by Thornton Bregazzi. Look for them at Keystone Clothiers in Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resort or The Star Trader in Disneyland park at the Disneyland Resort.

Star Wars Accessories at Disney Parks Star Wars Accessories at Disney Parks

These Are the Accessories You’re Looking For – From Dooney & Bourke handbags to shoes that resemble Darth Vader, there are many accessories available to complete any out-of-this-world outfit. I particularly like the scarf with vintage Star Wars artwork as it reminds me of bed sheets I had as a child.

Star Wars Name Tags – Guests can create personalized name tags with their names written in Aurebesh, one of the alphabets used in the Star Wars galaxy. There is also a name tag designed especially for Annual Passholders. Look for these name tags at Watto’s Grotto in Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida or Tomorrowlanding in Disneyland park in California.

Disney Pins and Vinylmation Figures
– Guests will find new Disney pins to collect or trade including a mystery pin set. We also released a limited release Vinylmation mystery set with eight figures. You won’t know which one you’ve got until you open the box.

Star Wars Items Available at Launch Bay Cargo CAPTION

Launch Bay Cargo – One of the coolest destinations for collectible merchandise is Launch Bay Cargo. This location is found at both Disneyland park in California and Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida. Guests can find replica costumes, light up Lightsaber umbrellas, toys, collectibles and more. Fans can also create D-Tech on Demand phone cases with Star Wars artwork. In Florida, we also offer an option to create and personalize retail MagicBands.

Shop Disney Parks Mobile App – This free mobile app gives you access to select Star Wars products from Disney Parks which you can have shipped directly to your home. We also introduced some fun hidden search terms that reveal some video clips. To download the free app, please visit

Look Ahead at New Pins Coming to Disney Parks in 2016

posted on December 30th, 2015 by Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager

New pins to collect or trade are on their way to Disney Parks in 2016. I recently stopped by the Disney pin development office at Disney Theme Park Merchandise to get a first look at several new open edition and limited edition pins. Here are a handful of my favorites coming soon to Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts.

One of my favorite new pin-of-the-month collections is called “Disney Love Letters.” Each limited edition pin features characters expressing warm sentiments of love. You might recall seeing two of these pins in a recent Disney Parks Blog Unboxed video. The collection will be shared between Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts, and each pin will have an edition size of 3,000.

The “Magical Montage 2016” collection will be released at Walt Disney World Resort. Each limited edition pin will have characters next to an icon that opens to reveal another character. A new pin will be released each month, and each pin will have an edition size of 3,000.

We’ll continue saluting the Disneyland Diamond Celebration with more Disneyland “D” character pins. Each pin will have an edition size of 3,000 and will be released at Disneyland Resort.

I love the “Disney Duets” pin-of-the-month collection as each pin is like a work of art. The monthly series will be released in a metal box with lid.

The popular Piece of Disney History will return to both Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts in 2016. Each pin in this collection contains a piece of a Disney Park attraction, show or icon.

There will also be two mystery pin sets inspired by artwork from March Magic 2015. You may recall we offered t-shirts online with these designs last spring. Now, guests will be able to trade for their favorite teams with these mystery sets containing 16-pins each. Pictured above are some of the teams from the Disneyland Resort collection.

Finally, we’ll have several new open edition pins released throughout the year. I was delighted to see Humphrey the Bear and a pin inspired by Walt Disney’s “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.” These pins and others make great gifts which can be presented in two unique pin gift boxes currently available at Disney Parks.

Stay tuned for additional looks at new and upcoming pins this year on the Disney Parks Blog.

Happy Trading!

This Week in Disney Parks Photos: Gift Ideas from Two Disney Coasts

posted on November 28th, 2015 by Victoria Lim, Managing Editor, Walt Disney World Public Relations

Now that the tryptophan is wearing off, you’ll need some energy if holiday shopping is part of your seasonal tradition.

This Week in Disney Parks Photos, we’re sharing a few fun ideas for holiday gifts – from Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort.

Michelle Harker shared this year’s commemorative Disney ¡Viva Navidad! items – a zip fleece hoodie, T-shirt, dimensional ornament, and limited release pins featuring the The Three Caballeros and Donald Duck atop an ornament.

You can find them at Seaside Souvenirs in Disney California Adventure park.

At both Disneyland Resort D Street, Downtown Disney District and Walt Disney World Resort Pin Traders, Disney Springs Marketplace, four new Funko Pop! figures themed to the Haunted Mansion just went on sale yesterday. Check out Ezra, Gus, Phineas and the popular Hatbox Ghost. Each figure retails for $19.95 plus tax.

Try not to eat your viewing device for these next items: debuting December 15, hand-crafted chocolates from the Ganachery at Disney Springs – “the most beautiful product in the world” according to Disney Pastry Chef Stefan Riemer.

A great keepsake for the true all-things-Disney fan: the custom-made bars that celebrate Disney’s iconic destinations (including Aulani, Disneyland Paris and Disneyland Resort) and the “Fab Five”.

As a dark-and-semi-sweet chocoholic, these may not make it out of the Disney Springs parking lot.

What Disney gift are you hoping to receive?

Digging Up Merchandise at Disney Parks for Disney•Pixar’s ‘The Good Dinosaur’

posted on November 20th, 2015 by Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager

This week, we are celebrating “Dino Week” in honor of the upcoming release of Disney-Pixar’sThe Good Dinosaur” which arrives in theaters on November 25. I recently visited the appropriately themed Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures in Dinoland, U.S.A. at Disney’s Animal Kingdom to survey merchandise being offered at Disney Parks for this film.

For the release of this film, we have a small assortment of toys and apparel for kids. Guests may also find adorable plush resembling Arlo the Apatosaurus and his unlikely human friend Spot. Look for them on an open edition two-pin set as well.

My favorite item is a kids’ zipper jacket that looks like the Tyrannosaurus Rex named Butch. I love the little arms that stick out from the front of the jacket.

In the mix, we included some toys created by our partners from the Disney Store.

Guests should also look for a limited release logo pin that opens to reveal an image of characters from the film.

Finally, we are hosting special signing events at Disney Parks this weekend.

For guests visiting Once Upon a Toy in Disney Springs Marketplace at Walt Disney World Resort, filmmakers, Pete Docter and Jerome Ranft will be appearing from 4:00-5:00 p.m. on November 21. Jay Ward will be appearing at the location from 4:00-5:00 p.m. on November 22. They will be meeting with fans and signing select Pixar-themed merchandise during their appearances.

At Disneyland Resort, Disney artists Joey Chou and Jerrod Maruyama will be on hand for a signing event on November 21 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at WonderGround Gallery in Downtown Disney District. You can see some of their artwork in the top image. This artwork will also be released in Florida this weekend.

You can find select items from “The Good Dinosaur” online at Select items may also be found using the free Shop Disney Parks mobile app.

Next Wave of Hidden Mickey Pins Releasing at Disney Parks in November 2015

posted on November 4th, 2015 by Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager

The next wave of Hidden Mickey pins for 2015 will soon be arriving at Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts. You might recall reading about the first part of this collection released earlier this year. Here’s a closer look at what you may find when trading pins with Disney cast members in the coming months.

Slide 1

For Disneyland Resort, guests will find two collections celebrating the Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration. These diamond shaped pins feature classic attractions and Disney characters.

I love the Mad Tea Party Tea Cups as they remind me of the coffee mugs coming to Disney Parks next year.

One of the most unique collections contains the daughters of King Triton from Disney’s “The Little Mermaid.” They are characters rarely included on merchandise at Disney Parks.

Slide 1

At Walt Disney World Resort, the Mickey Mouse-inspired macaroon pins are fantastic! I was also happy to see Figment and Elliot included in the Disney Dragon collection. The best pins, however, feature the Genie from Disney’s “Aladdin.”

If you are looking for Hidden Mickey pins, remember they typically measure approximately 1.25-inches and contain small Mickey Mouse icons in the artwork. The back stamps contain the words “Hidden Mickey pin,” and the pins are usually silver in color.

Finally, the Disney pin team is adjusting the release schedule for new Hidden Mickey pins in 2016. The first part of the collection will be released in spring and the second part will be released in fall. This is similar to how these pins were released in 2015.

Which pins will you add to your collection?
