New Hidden Mickey Pins Coming to Disney Parks in April 2015

posted on April 1st, 2015 by Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager

One of the most popular questions I’ve received since the start of this year involves the availability of new Hidden Mickey pins. These 1.25-inch pins are a fun thing to collect or trade with Disney cast members when visiting Disneyland Resort in California or Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. I’m happy to report that a new series of pins will be released at Disney Parks in April 2015.

HMP707391

Similar to previous collections, there will be unique pins released for trading at each Disney destination. One collection – Disney Villain neckties – will be found in both California and Florida. I was happy to see Hades, my favorite villain, made the cut.

Slide 1

For Disneyland Resort, there will be a few different collections featuring Disney characters and iconic things from Disney Parks. I’m in love with the Mickey Mouse food icons, and the Disney ducks collection is perfect (there is a Darkwing Duck pin!).

Slide 1

Guests visiting Walt Disney World Resort will find pins inspired by Disney character apples from our consumable locations like Main Street Confectionary. Other pins will resemble cast member costumes from popular Disney attractions. My favorite pins, however, are the EPCOT Center logos, which include logos for Horizons, The Living Seas, The Land, Journey Into Imagination and CommuniCore.

There are a few different ways to identify a Hidden Mickey pin. Guests can look for a small Mickey Mouse icon in the artwork. The back of the pin also contains the words “Hidden Mickey Pin” along with the number of pins in a particular collection (such as 1 of 5, etc.).

These pins are distributed at random to cast members to use for trading. As a reminder, guests may trade a maximum of two pins, per cast member, per day.

Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration Pins Will Dazzle You

posted on March 27th, 2015 by Michelle Harker, Manager, Merchandise Marketing & Communications, Disneyland Resort

You just had an incredible first look at the Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration merchandise coming this May, and here are a hundred more reasons – as there are more than 100 pins (yes, you read that correctly) being released during the celebration.

DCP7908801

Looking to start your very own Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration pin collection? Pin enthusiasts, collectors and traders will find dazzling new starter sets, trading accessories (lanyards, lanyard medals, a lanyard pouch, trading bag), mystery packs, collector’s packs as well as open and limited edition pins, boxed sets, framed sets and more. My own personal tip for you, make sure you get at least one of the Mickey Mouse ‘60’ logo pins.

DCP7908802

Disneyland Resort Annual Passholders, be sure to keep an eye out for a special series of pins created just for you. These dazzling diamond shaped pins will release bi-monthly, beginning in May and feature stained glass and a hinge that opens to reveal beloved characters and attractions. Also available will be a Disneyland Resort Diamond Collection Mickey Mouse pin and lanyard medal. Tip: Remember you must present your valid Disneyland Resort Annual Passport or Premier Pass and photo I.D. at time of purchase.

DCP7908803

Looking for a fun night at home? Invite your friends over for game night and surprise them by playing the Pin Trading Board Game, which takes you along the Pixie Dust Path as you celebrate attractions, films and the magic of the Disneyland Resort. The limited edition pin trading board game comes complete with game token pins/markers (Mickey Mouse, Aurora and the Genie) and a spinner. But you can always add more sparkle to your collection with an additional token set and completer pins. Game on!

That’s all I can share, for now, but there is definitely more headed your way.

Are you ready for some pin trading fun?

Preview of New Merchandise Coming to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort at Walt Disney World Resort

posted on March 20th, 2015 by Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager

polpol769921

I’m beyond excited to give you a first look at some new merchandise coming this year to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort at Walt Disney World Resort. I’ve been looking forward to this story for months as my entire apartment is decorated like a Polynesian paradise. You may remember the sneak preview I shared this past January of the Tiki figurine shown above. I recently visited the resort to capture an image of that same figurine in a lush, tropical setting. I also found a few other things that I’m sure you’ll enjoy!

polpol970922

Disney Design Group artists created a comprehensive style guide for this resort logo program. This guide contained Disney character sketches, patterns, backgrounds and more that were applied to a variety of items. The adult and kids shirts pictured above utilize some of those style guide elements.

polpol868993

The Minnie Mouse image from the T-shirt was also used on a long-sleeved hoodie (I love the resort logo name on the sleeve). I was delighted to see new Aloha shirts for adults and kids (now my son and I can match while enjoying Dole Whips from the Pineapple Lanai). Those shirts combine character sketches from the T-shirts along with the Tiki figurine. The tote bag also contains an image of that Tiki figurine and it’s perfect!

polpol988994

Other souvenir items will include a key chain, a decorative frame, and window decals. The resort will have an open edition logo pin. Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto will have an open edition logo pin and a limited edition pin for the grand opening.

polpol778825

Some of my favorite items, however, are the amazing Tiki mugs that are coming to the resort. There will be two different mugs, each with the resort’s logo found on the back side. The first two colors for these mugs are shown in the image above. Look for three additional color variations for each mug to be released throughout this year at the resort’s merchandise shops.

polpol009006

Besides the Tiki mugs, I can’t wait to get my hands on the Aloha shirt inspired by Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto. The shirt’s colors were inspired by colorful tile once used inside Great Ceremonial House. As you can tell from this image, I’m already waiting to enjoy this happy hideaway that is soon to become my second home away from home.

These items will be released at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort this year; we will not be carrying them on our Disney Parks online store.

‘Decades’ Art Debuts for the Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration

posted on March 4th, 2015 by Michelle Harker, Manager, Merchandise Marketing & Communications, Disneyland Resort

Take a journey back in time to the years 1955–1964. The opening of Disneyland is underway, new never-before-seen attractions have come to life for all to enjoy, magnificent mountains magically appear, a skyway leads to journeys in Tomorrowland, mermaids and sea-serpents grace the seas amidst submarines and monorails take flight high above the world below.

1956_r0623

Beginning this May, and over the course of the entire Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration, we will take a look back at milestones like these during each of the last six decades that have made the Disneyland Resort what it is today, with this special ‘Decades’ collection. Designed by artist Jeff Granito, the first piece of art in the series will debut in May. I wanted to find out more about what inspired Jeff to create this very special collection, and here’s what he had to share.

“What made this collection so special for me was the opportunity to create specific pieces of art that represented key moments over the past sixty years in Disneyland Resort history,” said Jeff, “especially from a stylistic approach. In the initial piece, I wanted to capture the excitement and optimism of Disneyland during its first ten years. For many, it’s the first moment of discovery into new worlds and magical lands; where else can you have the atomic age of Tomorrowland, meet the whimsical touches of Fantasyland. For me, it was a dream come true.”

Here’s how it works! New art themed to each decade will debut almost every 60 days on items including apparel, home décor, pins and more. There might even be a few surprises in store. What, you ask? I guess you’ll have to keep watching the Disney Parks Blog to find out more.

Tip: Keep in mind with each release that purchasing limits will apply and merchandise is available while supplies last.

Here’s one final fun fact! There is a diamond-shaped icon in each piece. Can you find this one?

Luck is on Your Disney Side this March at Disney Parks

posted on February 24th, 2015 by Michelle Harker, Manager, Merchandise Marketing & Communications, Disneyland Resort

This March, think green and luck is sure to be on your Disney Side! Here are a few ways you can celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at Disney Parks.

Look for a specialty gourmet apple inspired by St. Patrick’s Day: dipped in caramel, enrobed in sweet milk chocolate, decorated with green sanding sugar and yellow jelly beans topped with a marshmallow hat.

SPDT7057913

Your luck continues with the re-introduction of March’s Triple Chocolate gourmet apple. This chocolatey confection has been dipped in creamy caramel, enrobed in sweet milk chocolate, rolled in a mixture of semi-sweet chocolate chips and white chocolate chips and drizzled with milk chocolate, dark chocolate and white chocolate. Fun Fact: This apple has been the #1 favorite among you, our Disney Parks fans for the past two years. Will its luck continue or will you choose another? Only time will tell. Mark your calendar for March 1, as these divinely delectable treats will go fast. Find them at Candy Palace on Main Street, U.S.A., in Disneyland park; Trolley Treats on Buena Vista Street in Disney California Adventure park; and Marceline’s Confectionery in the Downtown Disney District.

Perhaps our ‘lucky’ Mickey Mouse plush will help you find that pot of gold you’ve been looking for and the luck of the Irish will be on your side. This year’s brand-new St. Patrick’s Day pin features none other than Jessica Rabbit — a good luck charm.

SPDT7057914

Don’t miss out — The plush and pin are available now at select locations at the Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts!

Which Disney Parks merchandise will be lucky enough to go home with you?

Top ‘Cinderella’-Inspired Items from Disney Parks

posted on February 15th, 2015 by Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager

CTM4538461

With the 65th Anniversary of Walt Disney’s “Cinderella,” I’m reminded of my younger sister who loved Cinderella. I remember her listening to a 33 ½ long playing record that had scenes from the animated film printed on both sides of the album. Today, her childhood bedroom in Ohio still has reminders of Cinderella with small figurines and framed prints. She found many of those items during visits to Walt Disney World Resort in the 1980s and 1990s. I thought today was a good day to share some of my favorite Cinderella-themed items currently found Disney Parks.

CTM4538462

To celebrate this anniversary, the Disney pin team released a limited edition pin that has an edition size of 2,000. Look for it in select pin locations at Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts.

CTM4538463

Costume dresses and accessories are some of the most popular Cinderella items at Disney Parks. Little ones ages 3-12 can also be magically transformed into Cinderella at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique locations at Disneyland park, Magic Kingdom Park, and Downtown Disney Marketplace. I bet my sister wishes she had these options when she was a child!

CTM4538464

Speaking of Downtown Disney Marketplace, I stopped by Arribas Brothers to view an amazing Cinderella Castle Sculpture. The limited sculpture is detailed in hand-enameled metal and is set with 28,255 Swarovski crystals. The retail for this item is $37,500 and it can be found online.

CTM4538465

Finally, I have a sneak preview of a graphic MagicBand that is coming this spring. This Cinderella-themed retail MagicBand is similar to the Belle and Ariel MagicBands we released in January. While I don’t have a confirmed release date for this open edition item, the MagicBand development team thought it was the perfect thing for this Cinderella story.

Here is a gallery of other things I found including custom phone cases at D-Tech on Demand in the Marketplace Co-Op at Downtown Disney Marketplace, dolls, mugs and the Cinderella Castle playset.

First Look at New Items for Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend 2015 at Walt Disney World Resort

posted on February 10th, 2015 by Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager

PHM750271

I’m looking forward to the Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend 2015 at Walt Disney World Resort that will be held February 19-22. My fiancée will be participating in the Glass Slipper Challenge, so I’m excited to cheer for her and other runners throughout the weekend. She recently asked me about the merchandise that will be offered during the event, so I visited the merchandise events team to get a sneak preview.

A Variety of Apparel Items with the Princess Half Marathon Logo Will Debut During the Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend 2015 A Variety of Apparel Items with the Princess Half Marathon Logo Will Debut During the Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend 2015

Like previous year’s events, we will offer a variety of apparel items with the Princess Half Marathon logo including T-shirts, jackets, tank tops and headwear. There will also be drinkware, pins and a necklace. I like the colorful new ear hat with an attached veil. There will also be an ear hat with Olaf for the Kids’ Races.

You may recall that we released a blue, runDisney-themed retail MagicBand during the Walt Disney World Marathon weekend in January. I’m happy to share that item will return along with a new pink MagicBand. Both of these items are limited release and will have a retail of $24.95 each. They can be “linked later” which makes them perfect gifts for someone training for a future runDisney race at Walt Disney World Resort.

PHM750274

For those participating in the Glass Slipper Challenge, you will also find apparel and home goods. I think the taglines on the backs of both running jackets are great!

PHM750275

We will also release a variety of Sweaty Bands and Bondi Bands containing event logos.

The D-Tech on Demand boutique in the Marketplace Co-Op at Downtown Disney Marketplace will also offer unique artwork for guests. You can create and customize a case for the following mobile phones: iPhone 4/4S, iPhone 5/5S/5C, iPhone 6/6+, Samsung Galaxy SIII, Samsung Galaxy S4 and Samsung Galaxy S5.

PHM750276

Finally, we’ll have a few new Disney Princess-themed Dooney & Bourke handbags designed by Disney Design Group. Select bags will contain a specially designed Princess Half Marathon 2015 hangtag.

These items and more will be released at the runDisney Health & Fitness Expo at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. The Expo will be open during the following times:

  • Thursday, February 19 – 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
  • Friday, February 20 – 9:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, February 21 – 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
