Hello! My name is Dara Trujillo and I’m the manager for Merchandise Communications here at the Walt Disney World Resort. It’s my job to make sure you’re informed of the latest and greatest merchandise happenings here at our Resort.
Today, I’m excited to show you something really unique. Recently, we unveiled our official Princess Tiana window in the Magic Kingdom Park at our Emporium retail location on Main Street, U.S.A. It’s already a guest favorite. So, to get the “inside scoop,” I sat down with the designer and creator of the window, Ron James.
“I am constantly looking for new innovative ways to showcase our merchandise to our guests,” Ron said. “A few years ago, in celebration of Disneyland’s Golden 50th Anniversary, we creatively took our Belle doll, dressed in her traditional gold gown, and created a show stopping window fit for any Disney Princess. Since then we have replicated Cinderella and Aurora. The newest Princess to don the Main Street window is Princess Tiana.”
Look for this window to support our newest Princess throughout 2010.
Fun Facts: The dress took over 60 man hours to reproduce and 4 hours to install all 3 windows; more than 80 dolls were used to create the dress, and the dress itself is covered in more than 400 rhinestones.
We love surprises at Disney Parks and our latest involves Emmy Award-winning talk show host and supermodel Tyra Banks.
Earlier this week, Tyra surprised three young girls by announcing on “The Tyra Show” that she was sending them and their moms to Walt Disney World. Then, Tyra made a surprise appearance during their park visit on Friday night and joined the group for a Royal Tea Party with Disney’s newest princess, Tiana.
Tyra’s visit to Walt Disney World will be featured Wednesday, Nov. 25 on “The Tyra Show.” It’ll air nationwide at 4 p.m. on the CW Network and then be repeated on Dec. 11.
Today the new “Tiana’s Showboat Jubilee!” debuted to guests in New Orleans Square at the Disneyland Resort, and you can catch the show now through January 3. If you’re someone who likes to be the life of the party, then you will love this show. It begins with a colorful, jazz-filled procession through New Orleans Square with the characters from the new Disney film “Princess and the Frog,” and continues on the Mark Twain riverboat. Check out video of the show at the Disneyland Resort below and see photos of the show at Walt Disney World from our previous story on the Disney Parks Blog.
The party features characters from Walt Disney Pictures’ “The Princess and the Frog” movie, including Princess Tiana and Prince Naveen. It starts in the Liberty Square area before moving to the water’s edge. Princess Tiana and Prince Naveen then board a showboat with a live jazz band and join other characters, including Louis, Dr. Facilier and his friends.
Tiana’s Showboat Jubilee! not only celebrates our newest princess, it also marks her Disney Parks debut. You can meet Tiana and her Prince at a special location in Liberty Square during the 10-week jubilee.
This first-of-it’s-kind celebration debuts in Florida at Magic Kingdom Park on October 26 and in California at Disneyland Park on November 6. It’s scheduled to run through January 3, 2010.
