Walt Disney at the Enchanted Tiki Room

Before jumping into the weekend, we wanted to share a few important updates with Disney Parks Blog readers. First, Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room in Adventureland at Magic Kingdom Park is scheduled to open on Monday and to celebrate the big day, we’re launching a few blog-exclusive stories, including a behind-the-scenes look at the attraction. Our coverage begins on Sunday.

Also, we’re thrilled to announce that Walt Disney World Resort will bring an additional Monorail train into service. It’ll be identified by a new peach-colored stripe when it joins the fleet this fall. Over the next few weeks you may spot us testing the train on the Monorail beams before we bring it in to be painted.

Experimental Entry Configuration at Epcot

We heard the buzz at the Epcot main entrance where our teams began testing an experimental entry configuration to see if it simplifies park entry. Periodically throughout the day, some guests were invited to scan their tickets at the new system which may ease entry, especially for families with strollers or wheelchairs. Our teams are always trying out new ideas – stay tuned to see if this makes it into the parks.

New Images at the Top of Disney Parks Blog

Have you noticed our new photos at the top of the blog? We’ve added a fresh batch of header images from around Disney Parks to the site and we’ll be adding more in the future. Let us know what else you’d like to see up there in the comments.

We’ve also made a few changes to the blog this month. There are new Facebook “like” and Twitter buttons at the bottom of all of our posts to make it easier for you to share your favorite Disney Parks Blog stories, videos and images. Disney Parks ‘Quick Hits’ – November 23, 2010

Usually, “Quick Hits” launches at the end of the week but we have a few updates to share before the Thanksgiving holiday, starting with Adventures by Disney. For the second year in a row, Adventures by Disney has been named the World’s Leading Luxury Tour Operator and North America’s Leading Tour Operator by the World Travel Awards.

You may not know this but the awards are dubbed the “Oscars” of the travel industry. Adventures by Disney also earned two Travel Weekly Magellan Awards. It was selected as a Gold Travel Weekly Magellan Award Winner for its 2010 brochure and recognized for its website, AdventuresbyDisney.com, with a Silver Magellan Award.

And we haven’t published this yet, but members of of the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) recently honored Greg Hale of Walt Disney World with their Outstanding Service Award. It’s one of the highest honors that IAAPA gives to any individual or organization. Greg is the chief safety officer and vice president for worldwide safety and accessibility at Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.

We’re celebrating veterans at Disney Parks today and a little later Heather will be sharing a special post from Disneyland Resort. But to begin things, here’s a video we shared last year showing how we honor veterans at our flag retreat ceremony at Magic Kingdom park.

Also, we haven’t shared this yet but during the week of November 15, Disney Vacation Club is offering a webinar with a holiday twist. The “Memories Unwrapped “ webcast will feature videos, music and holiday cheer, as well as updates on Aulani and the latest DVC offers. If you log in, you get a free Disney lithograph. Disney Parks ‘Quick Hits’ – November 4, 2010

Maybe you’ve heard: our new interactive show called “Disney Channel Rocks!” recently debuted at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. And while we’ve talked about the live, rock-concert style show, we’ve yet to share video here. So today, we’re taking you there:

The live show features songs from the “High School Musical” series, “Camp Rock,” “StarStruck” and more. Do you have a favorite? Let us know in the comments.

Also, take note that Mickey’s Jammin’ Jungle Parade will be down Nov. 7-13. During this time, Animal Programs will introduce a pair of Cotton-top Tamarins to a habitat in front of the Tree of Life. The parade returns Nov. 14 as Mickey’s Jingle Jungle Parade and will run through Jan. 3.

United States Air Force Thunderbird Jets Flying Over Magic Kingdom Park

Next week, we’re celebrating “Hometown Heroes” at Magic Kingdom Park in honor of Air Force Week in Central Florida. And the day will include quite a sight – the United States Air Force Thunderbird jets flying over Magic Kingdom Park. The flyover will be Tuesday, October 26 at about 3:15 p.m. Also, United States Air Force dignitaries will be honored during the day at the park’s “Celebrate a Dream Come True” parade.

And you may not have seen this yet, but we’ve launched a new Facebook game inspired by this year’s Epcot International Food & Wine Festival. The game puts you in the middle of the Festival serving up dishes from around the world. It’ll only be available for a limited time so go and check it out and then let us know what you think.

Disney Parks ‘Quick Hits’ – October 8, 2010

Before jumping into the weekend, we wanted to give you a quick heads up about booking Walt Disney World reservations. You’ll be unable to book Walt Disney World Resort hotel, dining, recreational and children activities, tours and Cirque du Soliel – La Nouba performances Oct. 12, 4 p.m. – Oct. 14, mid-morning as we upgrade our system. All reservations made prior to the outage will not be affected.
