Do you remember our favorite Disney Parks thrill ride question? I do. It showed that there are plenty of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith fans who can’t get enough of it. For you, we thought you should know that on this day in history, July 29, 1999, the attraction opened. If you were there on opening day, please share in the comments.
Also, we haven’t published this on the Blog but you can now get a better idea of what to expect when the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival begins on October 1. An updated Festival Guide is posted on disneyworld.com.

Disney Parks ‘Quick Hits’ – July 22, 2010

When our online conversations turn to favorite attractions, it doesn’t take long before The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Disney’s Hollywood Studios gets mentioned and then repeated – heavily. Well, we thought you’d like to know that on this day in history, in 1994, the attraction officially opened. Is it in your top five “must-do” attractions? (Thanks to Garth for the image).
And we haven’t published this yet but Guests staying at owned and operated Walt Disney World Resort Hotels, Disney’s Vero Beach and Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resorts now have the option to receive their wake-up calls in English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese or Japanese. You’ll be prompted to enter a language choice when you press the wake-up call button or code for wake-up calls in your in-room telephone.

Disney Parks ‘Quick Hits’ – June 4th, 2010

You won’t find it in the in-park event guide but we thought you’d like to know that Ray Park “Darth Maul” will be showing off some of his amazing martial arts skills this weekend (and next) at Star Wars Weekends. Ray will be performing with a double-bladed lightsaber and telling stories in the Premiere Theatre at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at 5:45 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Please stop by the information table at the Sounds Dangerous Theatre for more information.
And a reminder…if you’re looking to save some money on a weekend getaway to the Walt Disney World Resort this summer, we’re offering three ways to save.

We’ve got kumquats this weekend at the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival. The fruit is part of a special Florida Farmer’s Market celebration “Fresh from Florida” at Garden Town that begins today and runs through April 25. Stop by if you’re enjoying the Festival this weekend.

Disney Parks ‘Quick Hits’ – April 15th, 2010

Dara and Steven did a great job of letting us know what to expect at tomorrow’s D-Street Grand Opening. But we have another surprise to share — world-renowned speed painter Rock Demarco will be painting his interpretation of Mickey Mouse at the event. Rock has also been commissioned to design some Vinylmation figures on Friday.
Guests at Disney’s Animal Kingdom will “Party for the Planet” during a park-wide Earth Day celebration on April 22. There will be special entertainment throughout the park on Earth Day:
- Main Entrance: Jiminy Cricket (9 a.m.-1 p.m.)
- Rafiki’s Planet Watch: PIPA the talking recycling bin (11:20 a.m., 12:10 p.m., 1 p.m., 1:50 p.m. and 2:40 p.m.), Jiminy Cricket (2-5 p.m.)
- Gi-Tar Dan at Rafiki’s Planet Watch and Camp Minnie-Mickey (Sets run between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. at Rafiki’s Planet Watch, and between 10:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. at Camp Minnie-Mickey)

Disney Parks ‘Quick Hits’ – April 2nd, 2010

If you bumped into me this week, chances are we talked pizza. The new pizzeria coming to Epcot has been on my mind since we launched our “first look” post on Monday. But there’s more happening at Epcot that didn’t make it to the blog — like a new merchandise kiosk now open in front of the China Pavilion. The posted image shows a few unique items currently available at Good Fortune Gifts. We also tweeted out news that Givenchy will be opening a 300 sq. ft. shop at the France pavilion at Epcot by September. It’ll be the only retail location in the United States to offer the full line of Givenchy make-up and skincare products.
Also this week, we’re hiring Disney Reservation Center Cast Members at the Walt Disney World Resort. If you’re the vacation planner of the family, this may be for you. Visit WaltDisneyWorld.jobs to apply.
And for all you Tinker Bell fans, there’s a special event happening at the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival this weekend. The filmmakers of “Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue” will be greeting guests and signing autographs at Pixie Hollow Fairy Garden on April 3. Details are posted at facebook.com/waltdisneyworld.

Join me for a walk around the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival and you’ll hear it — “I want that in my yard.” I say it when seeing images like the one Gene Duncan captured for today’s “Quick Hits” post. But for others of you, it’s strictly character topiaries. I enjoy reading Debbie’s posts about what it takes to make the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival happen, especially how we create our Walt Disney World character topiaries. Sure, we broke the news that D Street is coming but there’s more happening at Downtown Disney you may have missed if you didn’t catch our @DisneyParks tweets. AMC Entertainment is upgrading auditorium one to be the first Enhanced Theater Experience (ETX) in the United States. The ETX auditorium will include a larger screen and 3D technology when it debuts tomorrow. Later this month (March 25), the RIDEMAKERZ store will open on the Westside of Downtown Disney for a limited engagement. You’ll be able to build and customize a radio-controlled vehicle at the store.
