‘I Do!’ Memorable Proposals at the Disneyland Resort

posted on February 13th, 2015 by Erin Glover, Editorial Content Director, Disneyland Resort

Everyone has their own special memories of the Disneyland Resort – for some, it’s a first visit or a favorite show, and for many, it’s celebrating the beginning of an exciting journey with a loved one. In honor of Valentine’s Day, I’m excited to share stories of three memorable proposals stories recalled by cast members from some of our most romantic restaurants – who were able to make these special moments even more magical.

Carthay Circle Restaurant and Lounge, Disney California Adventure Park

When this guest took his girlfriend to the Disneyland Resort for the first time, he decided to propose to her in front of the wishing well at Snow White Grotto. He even presented the engagement ring in a glass slipper! Later that night, the couple celebrated their engagement in a private dining room at Carthay Circle Restaurant, where the cast members had “his & hers” ear hats waiting for them. The bride-to-be was in tears, and so were the cast members at Carthay Circle Restaurant!

Blue Bayou Restaurant, Disneyland Park

Cast members at Blue Bayou Restaurant were able to make a sweet moment even sweeter for one newly engaged couple. After the groom-to-be proposed (to applause from the entire restaurant), Blue Bayou Restaurant cast members presented the couple with special treats and sparkling cider flutes to celebrate.

Napa Rose, Disney’s Grand Californian Resort & Spa

The Napa Rose team was very excited to help with this unique proposal! One prince charming created a View-Master-like disc for his girlfriend, with slides showing moments throughout their relationship, ending with a very important question on the last slide: “Will you marry me?” Cast member, Wendy, delivered chocolate truffles to celebrate the moment. Other guests even joined in the celebration … the couple sitting next to the newly engaged guests was so touched by the surprising event, they paid for the couple’s dinner.

Where would you pop the question at the Disneyland Resort? Do you have a Disneyland Resort proposal story of your own? Share with us below! And happy Valentine’s Day!

Can You Name the Disney Villains?

posted on February 13th, 2015 by Jennifer Fickley-Baker, Editorial Content Manager

It’s Friday the 13th: Happy Villaintine’s Day!

posted on February 13th, 2015 by Jennifer Fickley-Baker, Editorial Content Manager

We like to have a little fun the day before Valentine’s Day and celebrate our love of the Disney villains on our own holiday on February 13 that we like to call Villaintine’s Day! You’ll see that our logo has temporarily changed (thanks to the help of Maleficent). You’ll also see that our day’s header images now showcase the mischief of Gaston, Ursula and other baddies you can spot at Disney Parks.

Why celebrate villains? Well, without them, we’d have no Disney heros, right? Think about it. Would Simba have realized his inner strength without battling Scar? Would Ariel have met Prince Eric again without the help of Ursula’s magic? And let’s be honest, it’s just fun to see Peter Pan and Captain Hook battle back and forth. Disney villains add so much to Disney films and they’re equally fun to meet in person at our parks.

Is seeing a Disney villain a must-do for you when visiting our parks? Which one? Tell us in the comments section below!

Love at First Sight: A Disney Cast Member Love Story

posted on February 13th, 2015 by Wilma Colón, Media Relations Manager, Walt Disney World Resort

Is it possible for two people to meet and instantly fall in love? Is there such thing as love at first sight? Love stories like the one shared by Disney cast member Patrick Zusack and his wife Denise may turn many of the not-so-hopeless-romantics out there into believers.

Love At First Sight: A Disney Cast Member Love Story Love At First Sight: A Disney Cast Member Love Story

Next month, it will be 25 years since Patrick and Denise first laid eyes on each other outside the former Mannequins nightclub at Downtown Disney. When you are a 5’11” woman who towers above everybody else, seeing a 6’4” man in line is a life saver. So she turned, locked eyes with him and said, “I’m going to need a dance partner once we get inside.”

And danced they did…all night. A simple hug sealed their goodbye at closing time. After all, she lived in Sarasota, Florida but was soon moving to Atlanta. What was the point in taking it any further? Yet the goodbye wouldn’t be for long. A month later they ran into each other once again – at Mannequins. This time she gave him her business card and asked him to “look her up” if he ever visited Sarasota.

But fate would intervene once again: the small piece of paper that held Denise’s contact information was completely ruined, gone with the week’s laundry.

Knowing in his heart that this beautiful, tall, striking woman “was the one,” Patrick got in his car and drove to Siesta Key Beach where Denise had mentioned she played volleyball on weekends. He walked up and down the beach until his feet hurt, but never found her. Heading back to Orlando, in the evening traffic of I-75 near Tampa, he saw a red Volkswagen Cabriolet-the same kind she drove. Could it be? Yes, it was Denise.

“What are you doing here?, she yelled out the window. “I’m coming back from Siesta Key, I was looking for you!”

Less than two years later, surrounded by family and friends, they became dance partners for life.

This last November, for their 22nd wedding anniversary, Patrick gave Denise one of the most romantic gifts anybody could think of: a paving stone from that exact same spot they met 25 years ago. A fellow cast member was able to secure the memento as he worked in the area under construction at Downtown Disney. “Soul mates met here,” says the plaque that holds the paver.

I am a believer. Happy Valentine’s Day!

February 13 – It’s Villaintine’s Day!

posted on February 13th, 2015 by Jean Volante, Manager of Dream Making, Disney Floral & Gifts/DEG

It’s Friday the 13th, the day before Valentine’s Day, and take a look at our banner below! What happened?! It looks like today has been taken over as “Villaintines Day?!.” I get a dreadful feeling that if I don’t share ideas about expressing your “Villain side,” there could be trouble! So for all our Villain’s at heart, it looks like this post is for you. And if you took the “Discover Your Disney Side” quiz and your loved one wants to be “the fairest of them all”, or would rather bring out the “beast” in those around them then this is for you too!

Oh, how villains just loathe the thought of love during this time of year! In fact, just this morning I overheard “someone” talking under their breath about how they despise all those “goodie-goodies” giving lovey-dovey tokens of affection. “It’s all about indulging in the pleasures of life,” they said. “After all, who has time for relationships when one can take time for themselves, enjoying life to its fullest!”

So, for those looking to create a Disney villain “sanctuary” after a full day in the park, take heed.

At Walt Disney World Resort, start with a dramatic gift for the queen in your life with Roses to Die For. This arrangement is the perfect haunting mix of dark roses, twisted willow and spooky spider webs. Add to the malevolent ambiance with a surprise that lets you toast to a happily “evil” after with A Disney Villains Indulgence. Now you can indulge in your villainous side by sipping sparkling berry juice in exclusive black goblets while enjoying delectable chocolate truffles in exquisite flavors representing the essence of our wicked women. The magic continues with a one-of-a-kind keepsake: an exclusive matted illustration by Disney artist Charles Wissig, featuring our evil ladies and their esteemed signatures.

So, here’s your chance to channel your inner Disney villain. When visiting Walt Disney World Resort, amaze your loved one by preparing a villain “sanctuary” featuring “heart stopping” surprises. Simply visit our Heroes & Villains page or call a Dream Maker at 407-WDW-GIFT (939-4438). When visiting Disneyland Resort check out the Disneyland Roses to Die For or call a Dream Maker at 714-781-GIFT(4438).

And be sure to tune in tomorrow, where I’ll be wrapping up these 14 Days of Love with a surprise that’ll be sure to “melt” your heart.

By the way, it seems as if these villainous influences are starting to rub off on me. There’s a mirror on my wall … and for some reason I feel the need to ask it a question …
