Warm Up To New Merchandise for Disney’s ‘Frozen’ at Disney Parks

posted on November 21st, 2013 by Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager

FMM982651SMALL

I recently shared with you details about special makeover experiences at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutiques for Disney’s “Frozen.” These special looks feature the two princesses – Anna and Elsa – from the upcoming animated feature that arrives in theatres on November 27. Like previous animated features, such as Disney’s “Wreck It Ralph,” Disney Parks are carrying a selection of merchandise inspired by this new film. I visited a few Walt Disney World Resort locations to survey what we are offering.

FMM982652SMALL

For Disney’s “Frozen,” Disney Theme Park Merchandise again partnered with the Disney Stores to carry a selection of dolls, plush, toys and other items. The dolls include two new Disney Animator’s dolls featuring Anna and Elsa. There are other action figure playsets with a variety of characters from the film.

FMM982653THUMB FMM982654THUMB

For plush, we are carrying Olaf (seen in the first image above) as well as the reindeer, Sven. One of my favorite items is the signing Olaf plush. When you press his foot, he will speak and sing his hilarious song “In Summer” from the motion picture.

FMM982655SMALL

The softlines team created two apparel items – a T-shirt and long sleeve jacket for girls – along with costumes and accessories featuring Anna and Elsa.

FMM982656SMALL

There will also be a limited edition opening day pin being released in select locations at Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts on November 21. The pin features Olaf and will have an edition size of 2,500.

Vinylmation collectors should look for two new items being released on November 22 at the D Street locations in Florida and California and on the Disney Parks online store. Disney artist Maria Clapsis designed a two-figure limited edition set (edition size 1,500) featuring Anna and Elsa.

Maria also designed a 3-inch figure of Olaf that will be sold as a new Vinylmation “Eachz” concept. This item will be sold as a mystery box with an edition size of 2,500. The more common figure to find is Olaf in winter, while Olaf in summer with his sunglasses and hat is rarer.

Vinylmation Celebrates Five Years with Special Events in November 2013 at Disney Parks

posted on November 7th, 2013 by Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager

vyl992822

I find it difficult to believe that Vinylmation is celebrating five years. I’ve been writing about these collectible figures since October 2009 (it was my second article for the then brand new Disney Parks Blog! On November 7, 2008, Vinylmation was introduced at the Festival of the Masters event in Walt Disney World Resort. You can read about the humbling beginnings of Vinylmation in this article. Today, Vinylmation is found at numerous places around the world including Disney Parks, Disney Stores, online and even on Facebook. To commemorate this year’s milestone anniversary, we are holding two special release parties at Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts. Here is a look at the figures created for these events.

Disney Design Group Artist Thomas Scott designed the fifth anniversary figure shown above. The item has an edition size of 1,000, and will be sold in a mystery box that the Vinylmation team is calling, “Eachez.” The black figure is the more common figure in the box (900 of those), while the green figure is more rare (only 100 made). You may recall this concept from the 2013 Epcot International Food & Wine Festival. Thomas said the figure was inspired by both the question mark figure and the black and green colors that have been associated with Vinylmation for years.

miv293827

Thomas also designed a new limited edition Meet & Greet Mickey figure for the 2013 Festival of the Masters event.

hgh292222

Artist Maria Clapsis designed two limited edition sets inspired by long-time popular artwork found on shirts and other items at Disney Parks. Each set has an edition size of 2,000.

mhn220000

Finally, Ron Cohee designed this year’s Festival of the Masters limited edition figure. Presented as the “Eachez” concept described above, the figure has an edition size of 1,200. Mickey Mouse covered in paint is the more common figure this time.

Fans can meet Thomas, Maria and Ron on Friday, November 8 at D Street in Downtown Disney West Side from 10 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. All of their figures, plus one more mysterious set from Thomas, will be released on that day at D Street in Florida.

For guests in California, the fifth anniversary “Eachez” figure and a mysterious set that my fellow author Michelle Harker previously mentioned will be released on Saturday, November 9. Thomas will also be at D Street in Downtown Disney District from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. that day.

A Look at Recent and Future Haunted Mansion Merchandise at Disney Parks

posted on October 31st, 2013 by Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager

01_ParksBlog_HMTakeOver_VMSet

This past year has been an exciting time for Haunted Mansion collectors. In February, we released nine amazing decorative items inspired by the attraction. These items and more are currently found on the Disney Parks online store. In August, we had an online release of a Hatbox Ghost shirt (it’s nice seeing fellow Haunted Mansion fans in the Parks wearing that shirt.) Finally, in September, we released an incredible Dooney & Bourke wallpaper bag. Good news – additional orders of this bag are arriving in November at Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts. As your humble servant of Disney Parks merchandise information, I wanted to share with you a look at some other recent and future Haunted Mansion items.

02_ParksBlog_HMTakeOver_Shirts

I recently visited the Yankee Trader shop located near the Haunted Mansion attraction in Liberty Square at Magic Kingdom Park. The shop had a nice small display of items including those aforementioned decorative goods and four recently released T-shirts.

10134672P2 MasterGraceyCase

The D-Tech team also recently released two new phone cases. The limited release wallpaper case was made for the iPhone 4/4S (item number – 400007864818) and iPhone 5/5S (item number – 400007863538), and it can be found in multiple locations at Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts. The limited edition, iPhone 5/5S portrait case (item number – 400007703476) has an edition size of 999, and can only be found at Walt Disney World Resort. The case has a lenticular feature that is similar to the portrait from the attraction.

On December 20, we are releasing a Vinylmation set with figures inspired by the stretch room portraits (as seen in the first image of this article). This limited edition set will have an edition size of 2,000 and was designed by Disney Design Group artist Ron Cohee. The set will be released at the D Street locations on each coast and on the Disney Parks online store.

04_ParksBlog_HMTakeOver_HM45thInvite

Finally, the Haunted Mansion will celebrate 45 years at Disneyland park in August 2014. The Disney pin team is currently planning an awesome pin collection for this milestone anniversary at the Disneyland Resort next summer. Look for more details in the coming months about the new collection.

05_ParksBlog_HMTakeOver_VMMickeySet

The Vinylmation team will also be releasing some new three-inch figures for the 45th Anniversary. These figures, also designed by Ron Cohee, will feature Mickey Mouse and friends playing roles from the Haunted Mansion. Look for this new “Reveal/Conceal” concept late next summer.

Commemorate Twenty Twisted Years of Tim Burton’s ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’ with New Merchandise at Disney Parks

posted on October 29th, 2013 by Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager

This October marks the 20th Anniversary of Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas.” This amazing stop-motion feature is a classic in the Miller house, especially around Halloween (my children love the film!). To commemorate this milestone anniversary, here are a few of the newest themed merchandise I found created especially for Disney Parks.

01_ParksBlog_NBC20th_FlashSaleArt

From October 29 to November 4, 2013, the Disney Parks online store will release an exclusive T-shirt and a D-Tech on Demand case for the iPhone 5/5S featuring the artwork shown above. Guests can order these items by visiting http://www.Disneystore.com/ParkEvents starting October 29. Once orders are complete, please allow six-to-eight weeks for delivery.

02_ParksBlog_NBC20th_Watches

The Timepiece team recently introduced two 20th Anniversary watches as part of their Artist Watch program. The watches are available with either black or white leather straps. Presented in gift boxes, each watch has a retail of $75.00 (plus tax). Look for them in the following locations at Disneyland Resort: Fortuosity Shop and Port Royal in Disneyland park; Off the Page at Disney California Adventure park; and World of Disney in Downtown Disney District. For guests at Walt Disney World Resort, look for these items at Uptown Jewelers in Magic Kingdom Park or Art of Disney at Downtown Disney Marketplace.

03_ParksBlog_NBC20th_Vinylmation

On October 31, the Vinylmation team is releasing a limited release mystery series celebrating several characters from the film. Disney Design Group artist Casey Jones, whom you may recall from Hatbox Ghost shirt fame, designed this second series that builds off the first (and now retired) Vinylmation series from a few years ago. Look for this set at the D Street locations in California and Florida, and the Disney Parks online store once released.

04_ParksBlog_NBC20th_2014EventTeaser

Finally, the last item is more like a preview of things coming in 2014. I invite you to mark your calendar for June 14, 2014, as we will be hosting a trading event at the Disneyland Hotel that was inspired by Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas.” Look for more details in the coming months. I’ve seen the artwork for several items and they are outstanding!

Here are a few other items that I found including new winter weather attire coming to Disney Parks in November.

Assemble for This New Vinylmation Collection at Disney Parks October 11

posted on September 25th, 2013 by Michelle Harker, Manager, Merchandise Marketing & Communications, Disneyland Resort

It’s time to assemble, Disney fans!

There seem to be great forces directing the debut of this Vinylmation collection that has been shrouded in mystery over the past few months and is set to hit shelves October 11 at the Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort. What is it? I can’t tell you! No seriously, I can’t. So I suggest you use your secret superhero powers and give your best guess as to what is coming your way. Some would say it takes a village, others would say that their protection often shields us from what may actually be.
Mystery New Vinylmation Collection

Here are a few questions to see how ready you are, to become part of this elaborate team:

  • Will you get suited up?
  • Will you bring the hammer down?
  • Will you find that you are the captain of your own ship?
  • Will you be green with envy?

If you answered yes to any of the questions above, then you are ready to join forces with us.

Look for the 12 blind-boxed figures to debut October 11 at D Street at Downtown Disney West Side at the Walt Disney World Resort as well as D Street in the Downtown Disney District at the Disneyland Resort. Not able to make it? Look for the set to be available online later this fall via DisneyStore.com.

Curious if any signings by Disney Design Group Artist, Thomas Scott, will take place? Plan to re-assemble at D Street in Downtown Disney West Side on October 18 from 5 – 7 p.m. and again on November 8 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Never fear Disneyland Resort fans, Thomas will be on hand for a special appearance and signing on November 9 from 1 – 3 p.m. at D Street in the Downtown Disney District, as well.

Are you ready? Will you be dressed for the occasion?

Say Hello to Newest Vinylmation Collectible Figure Coming to Disney Parks

posted on September 11th, 2013 by Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager

‘Meet & Greet Mickey’ Vinylmation Coming to Disney Parks

This past spring, I shared a story on the Disney Parks Blog about how Vinylmation, Disney’s line of collectible vinyl figures, continues to evolve. I’ve enjoyed seeing the Vinylmation team introduce new and exciting figures for fans to collect. I recently caught up with Disney Design Group artist Thomas Scott to discuss a new collectible Vinylmation figure debuting at the 13 Reflections of Evil event being held September 13-15, 2013, at Epcot.

“We call this new figure ‘Meet & Greet Mickey,’” explained Thomas. “Many fans may recall that the blank Mickey Mouse shape, or ‘platform,’ as I call them, was the foundation of Vinylmation. We’ll continue using that shape to create 3-inch figures. We’ve actually introduced a few different platforms in recent years, such as Vinylmation 95, Park Starz and even Popcorns. With the fifth anniversary of Vinylmation in November this year, it seemed like a great time to try something new using Mickey.”
‘Meet & Greet Mickey’ Vinylmation Coming to Disney Parks

This time, instead of a blank canvas, Meet & Greet Mickey is a fully detailed figure which Thomas feels “will appeal to guests who love the Disney Parks.” I love the fact he looks like Mickey Mouse from the 1970s! The limited edition figure will stand about six inches tall, and will have an edition size of 500. Each figure will retail for $49.95 plus tax, and will be packaged with an individually numbered header card.

He shared a few more details about this new collectible figure.

“The first ‘Meet & Greet Mickey’ will be released during our annual trading event at Epcot,” continued Thomas. “The figure is colored to compliment this year’s event theme, 13 Reflections of Evil. As this platform was designed with collectors in mind, there are only a handful of additional figures planned in the coming year. Fans may see future ‘Meet & Greet Mickey’ figures released at events like Disney Trading Nights or the upcoming Festival of the Masters 2013 on November 8-13 in the Downtown Disney area at Walt Disney World Resort.
‘Meet & Greet Mickey’ Vinylmation Coming to Disney Parks

Thomas said the Mickey Mouse-shaped form will stay the same, yet the colors will change with each new release. No colors will be repeated. The figures are limited edition, which means that once a particular figure is sold out, it won’t be reintroduced.

Popular Halloween Merchandise Returns to Locations at Disney Parks

posted on August 26th, 2013 by Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager

Pumpkin Antenna Topper

The frightfully friendly ghosts from The Haunted Mansion have returned to merchandise at Disney Parks. You may recall that last year we introduced a new art program featuring Disney characters outside The Haunted Mansion (you can read my interview with Disney artist Cody Reynolds in this article). The artwork proved so popular for merchandise that it was reintroduced for Halloween this year. I recently visited the World of Disney at Downtown Disney Marketplace in Florida to get a first look at returning favorites along with some new items.

Popular Halloween Merchandise Returns to Locations at Disney Parks

In recent years, the Halloween assortment has grown to include a variety of items including home and decorative goods, plush, Vinylmation, pins, souvenirs, softlines and much more. One thing I immediately noticed was a new pumpkin antenna topper, which was placed near toppers that featured a scarecrow and a ghost Mickey Mouse. The souvenirs team said to look for a Hitchhiking Ghost topping coming in October.

Singing Busts Ornament Sets

Another new item that caught my eye was the singing busts ornament set. This set was design by Costa Alavezos from Disney Design Group, and features five stylized busts inspired by the graveyard scene in The Haunted Mansion. This set seems like a nice complement to the other Haunted Mansion home items that were introduced last February.

Halloween Vinylmation

While many of the Halloween items are now available at Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts, there are a few items coming soon. In particular, the Vinylmation team is releasing two new 3-inch figures designed by Disney Design Group artist Caley Hicks on September 20. If you are headed to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Parties at Magic Kingdom Park starting September 10, be sure to look for new pins created especially for this annual event.

Here are a few more images from my visit. You can find many of these items and more on our Disney Parks online store.

Trick or treat!
