As part of our Thanksgiving celebration this week, we shared a special behind-the-scenes look two unforgettable holiday stories from the Walt Disney World Resort that you may have seen on ABC’s Good Morning America. They’re two heartwarming stories involving members of our military from the United States Air Force and United States Navy – and both have surprising twists.

Also this week, Disney Parks Blog readers got a quick peek at how we decked the walls of “it’s a small world” Holiday at Disneyland Resort. Check out hours of work in just 40 seconds.

The attraction’s façade has 50,000 C7 size lights in seven different colors: red, blue, green, amber, fuchsia, purple, and white. It adds up to almost five miles of light strings on the façade. Visit Shannon’s original story for more interesting facts about “it’s a small world” Holiday.

This week, we had some exciting updates to share on what’s coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom in 2016, including a first look at some of the amazing sights you’ll experience during our new nighttime experience “Rivers of Light” and a first look the new Tiffins restaurant.

Rivers of Light” will take place on Discovery River between Discovery Island and Expedition Everest and be one of the most memorable and emotionally stirring shows in the park’s history. To create “Rivers of Light,” Imagineers and Creative Entertainment partnered with the talents of master puppet designer Michael Curry, composer Mark Mancina and the filmmakers at Disneynature. And Tiffins restaurant will celebrate the art of traveling, featuring a diverse menu drawing from places that inspired the creation of Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Open for both lunch and dinner, Tiffins will also include waterfront views from comfortable indoor and outdoor seating areas.

This week, we shared an update out of D23 Expo Japan, where Bob Chapek, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, shared more on the expansion of Pandora – The World of AVATAR at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

Pandora – The World of AVATAR will bring a variety of new experiences to the Park, including a family-friendly attraction called Na’vi River Journey. The adventure begins as guests set out in canoes and venture down a mysterious, sacred river hidden within the bioluminescent rainforest. You can read more about the expansion in our original story.

Na’vi River Journey will open with Pandora – The World of AVATAR in 2017.

And we also announced that we’re celebrating the return of the holiday season at the Walt Disney World Resort with a special live stream of a performance of one of our most popular holiday offerings, the “A Frozen Holiday Wish” stage show and castle lighting, right here on the Disney Parks Blog.

This week, we shared some attention-grabbing announcements with Disney Parks Blog readers, including an update that Minnie and pals will continue to host dinner at Hollywood & Vine at Disney’s Hollywood Studios year-round.

With each new season, look for the experiences to feature unique music, décor, all-new costumes, menu items and interactive musical moments. Reservations open October 27 for the next seasonal dine. From January 4 to March 20, Minnie will be hosting a dinner party celebrating the magic of the movies and the glamour of Hollywood.

A Unique Point of View: Pool Slides at the Hotels of the Disneyland Resort – We seem to be experiencing an “endless summer” in Southern California — with temperatures in Anaheim in the ‘80s this week. So I thought it would be appropriate for one last water slide video.

Interview with the Hatbox Ghost in the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland Park – Ever wonder what’s going on inside the head of the Hatbox Ghost? In a story that originally ran in the Disneyland Resort Line, a magazine published exclusively for Disneyland Resort cast members, the spirit – who’s caused a sensation since he reappeared at the Haunted Mansion earlier this year – shared his thoughts on fame, rumors and attic haunting.

Sixty years ago this week, the landmark Disneyland Hotel opened its doors to families visiting the Disneyland Resort. And to mark the anniversary of this Disney Parks Blog reader favorite, we dug out some amazing photos from the archives.

During its first year of operation, Disneyland Hotel had only 104 guest rooms. Now, it has 975 beautifully appointed guest rooms, including a unique collection of themed suites—from the Big Thunder Suite to the Pirates of the Caribbean Suite. We also shared a bit more of what’s coming to Disney Springs at the Walt Disney World Resort in the future, including a new Disney chocolate shop and new restaurant for Celebrity Chef Art Smith.

The Ganachery, a new chocolate shop set to open in The Landing in late 2015 at Disney Springs, will feature a custom blend chocolate with the finest beans for the all-new concept that will feature freshly made ganache (gəˈnaSH). Pam has more details in her original story.

And Chef Art Smith’s new restaurant concept opens in Summer 2016 at Disney Springs at Walt Disney World Resort. The restaurant’s menu will feature Southern favorites like homemade pimento cheese, Church Lady deviled eggs, low country shrimp and grits, kale salad with Sweet Grass Dairy cheese and spiced pecans and a grilled Blackstrap pork chop with sawmill gravy. When Season of the Force begins at Disneyland park, it’ll feature opportunities to meet some of your favorite Star Wars characters, experience an exciting twist on a favorite attraction and more. This week, we debuted our new show, “Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular,” during the first Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party of the season at the Walt Disney World Resort.

The wicked Sanderson Sisters, who last appeared in Disney’s 1993 film “Hocus Pocus,” visit the mortal world for an all-new adventure, with a plan to use their magic to throw the best, evil Halloween party this side of the graveyard.

Blog author Shawn Slater talked with Show Director Denise Case, who gave us a first look at the Sanderson Sisters’ return.

This week, we shared some updates for enjoying the holidays at Disney Parks, including two new options at the Walt Disney World Resort: the Merry & Bright Dessert Party (Nov. 6-Dec. 30) and the Merry & Bright Dinner Reception (Jan. 1- 3), both overlooking The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Also, we shared that this holiday season will mark the finale for The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights. The display of lights has enjoyed a successful run at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, going all the way back to when it first appeared on Residential Street.

In order to prepare for some incredible experiences coming to the park, including the recently announced Toy Story Land and a Star Wars-themed land, we will not be able to present The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights in the future. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the family of Jennings Osborne for letting us share their family tradition year after year.

Also this week, it was clear that Fall officially arrived at Magic Kingdom Park at the Walt Disney World Resort. Jennifer gave readers another behind-the-scenes look at how cast members worked through the night to ready the park for the season.

Of course, the area really comes alive during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, which returns to the park in a few days. Will you be joining us?

This week, we announced a once-in-a-lifetime experience coming to Disneyland park beginning this month. The Jungle Cruise Sunrise Safari Breakfast will take place on select dates from September 21 to December 2, 2015.

Your Sunrise Safari will begin with a welcome from the Jungle Navigation Company, Ltd., before you dive into breakfast on the African veldt of the world-famous Jungle Cruise attraction in Adventureland.

We also shared an update that The Happiest Place on Earth will get merrier when Holidays at the Disneyland Resort returns November 13 through January 6, 2016.
