This week, Tom Staggs, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, shared a look at the work being done to to take the Disney guest experience to the next level.

Over the next several months, we’re rolling out a collection of tools at the Walt Disney World Resort called MyMagic+ that’ll give you more opportunities to customize and personalize your visit. And a major component of MyMagic+ is the new My Disney Experience website and mobile app. You can learn more about it in Tom’s original post.

‘Limited Time Magic’ Continues with a Winter Wonderland at Epcot’s Canada Pavilion at Walt Disney World Resort

And, of course, we’re continuing “Limited Time Magic” at Disney Parks on Monday. At Walt Disney World Resort, our extra sprinkle of Pixie Dust can be found at the Canada Pavilion in Epcot. For one week only, January 14-20, there will be a magical Winter Wonderland location, with falling snow, where you and your family can meet and take photos with some of your favorite Disney characters. We’ve included times in this week’s story.

And the good times will roll at Disneyland park with the return of New Orleans Bayou Bash! As part of “Limited Time Magic,” New Orleans Bayou Bash! will come alive in New Orleans Square from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Check Erin’s original post for dates and to learn more about the celebration.

Princess Fairytale Hall, Coming to New Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom Park in 2013

We kicked off the first week of the New Year with a look at what’s to come in 2013. Jennifer shared 13 wonderful reasons to visit the Walt Disney World Resort during the year that included a visit to Princess Fairytale Hall when it opens in New Fantasyland. The week after Christmas Day is historically a slow one on the Disney Parks Blog. But this year, we shared a big announcement – a first look at what’s to come with “Limited Time Magic.”

A year of unexpected surprises with an extra sprinkle of Pixie Dust at Disney Parks begins the first week in January at the Disneyland Resort with a special Three King’s Day celebration followed by a salute to the Golden Horseshoe Revue. Erin has more details in her story.

And at the Walt Disney World Resort, our celebration of the New Year continues with Tomorrowland’s first ever “Bling in the New Year” dance party. We also announced that 2013 will be the “Year of the Ear” at Disney Parks with new limited-edition ear hat designs coming monthly. Check our earlier post for more information.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Disneyland Park

This week, we shared an important update from the Disneyland Resort. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will close January 7 for refurbishment, reopening in fall 2013. Erin shared a list of updates that’ll be made to the attraction.

  • New ride vehicles (but don’t worry – they’ll still look like the trains that you know and love!)
  • Track replacement (but the attraction will still follow its current course)
  • Repainting portions of the mountain itself (Walt Disney Imagineering has once again carefully studied Bryce Canyon for inspiration)

New Fantasyland Grand Opening Celebration at Walt Disney World Resort

This week was the week we’ve been anticipating all year – New Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom Park officially opened to the world. It was a royal celebration at the Walt Disney World Resort as “Once Upon a Time” actress Ginnifer Goodwin, pop star Jordin Sparks and Walt Disney Parks & Resorts Chairman Tom Staggs led a grand-opening ceremony that featured Disney characters, fireworks and more.

If you weren’t able to join us for the event, take a look at some of the highlights of the day and of the park brought to life by our Walt Disney Imagineers.

Also, after weeks of reports of strange sightings, a fire-breathing Disney Dragon finally appeared and Gary ended his search. If you missed it, see how the creature made his grand entrance in the night skies over Magic Kingdom Park.

Sources told Gary that the Dragon made the special appearance because he was drawn to the New Fantasyland Grand Opening Celebration. You can learn more about what led up to the big night by visiting Gary’s Disney Dragon Tumblr site.
