Happy Holidays! ‘World of Color – Winter Dreams’ is coming up faster than you can imagine. This new holiday water spectacular is going to be visually breathtaking!
As part of show, we are working closely with our partners at Walt Disney Animation Studios. This outstanding group of artists is going out of their way to bring new and amazing animation to the show. From classics like “Bambi,” to new characters like Olaf from the upcoming animated feature “Frozen,” all are being customized for the “World of Color” fountain/projection stage.
To tell you a little bit more about it and give you a look behind the scenes, here’s a video with Dave Bossert, Producer and Creative Director of Special Projects for Walt Disney Animation Studios. He’s going to chat about about the custom work they are doing for the all-new show.
One segment in the new seasonal show will feature reproductions of seasons’ greetings cards created by guests – like you! Find out how to design and submit a winter-themed card that could be considered and, if selected, included in this special segment of “World of Color – Winter Dreams.” Just visit this page for important information such as eligibility requirements, card size requirements, artwork restrictions and submission guidelines. Listen up, “World of Color” fans! Since it’s “Christmas in July” week here at Disney Parks, it’s the perfect time for some exciting holiday-time news. Check out the video below for a special announcement from Steve Davison, vice president of Parades and Spectaculars, Walt Disney Imagineering Creative Entertainment, who has very exciting news to share about the “so wonderful, so beautiful” nighttime spectacular at Disney California Adventure park. Disney Parks Blog readers got to know Steve back in 2010 as he provided regular updates on the “World of Color” as it was in development. He’ll be joining us again, updating us on this exciting news that he’s about to reveal. What is it? Watch the video and find out!
Mark your calendars because “World of Color – Winter Dreams” will begin November 15, 2013, at Disney California Adventure park.
In celebration of the three-year anniversary of “World of Color” this month, I wanted to try out the slow-motion camera and have the crew tape some highlights from the ever-changing show. Nothing compares to seeing this spectacular in person; however, the video below gives a glimpse of the show from a whole new, multi-colored perspective.

Can you believe that “World of Color” premiered three years ago this month at Disney California Adventure park? Time surely does fly on a carousel of color! One of my personal Disneyland Resort favorites, “World of Color” features more than 1,000 water jets that bring Paradise Pier to life in a dazzling spectacle of color and light. “World of Color” regulars know that the show is a bit different from other nighttime spectaculars at the Disneyland Resort; it features a unique viewing process. So today I’m here to offer you some of the best ways to enjoy this spectacular spectacular – feel free to leave your own tips in the comments.
Disney’s FASTPASS Service – Plan ahead to reserve a spot inside Paradise Park at Disney California Adventure park to watch “World of Color.” Passes are available on a first-come, first-served basis outside Grizzly River Run in the Golden State area of the park. Remember that every member of your party must enter Disney California Adventure park and present their tickets at the kiosk to receive a FASTPASS. Bonus tip: Guests staying at Disneyland Resort Hotels can take advantage of Extra Magic Hour on select days, during which time you may enter Disney California Adventure park one hour before it opens to guests. Take advantage of this extra time by picking up your “World of Color” FASTPASS!
“World of Color” Dining – Not a morning person? Love great food? This is the option for you. In addition to enjoying a delicious meal, you also get access to a reserved viewing area in Paradise Park to enjoy “World of Color”! Make your reservation ahead of time by calling 714-781-DINE to enjoy lunch or dinner at Wine Country Trattoria or Carthay Circle Restaurant, or dinner at Ariel’s Grotto on select nights throughout the summer, followed by reserved viewing for “World of Color.”
“Glow With the Show” Ears – Looking for a way to become part of “World of Color” yourself? Pick up a pair of “Glow With the Show” Ears at merchandise locations throughout the Disneyland Resort. These special ears interact with the show itself, flashing and changing colors in response to the various scenes. And be sure to keep your “Glow With the Show” Ears after the show, because they also interact with many other shows and areas in Disneyland and Disney California Adventure parks.
Paradise Pier – Keep in mind that several attractions at Paradise Pier close during the show. Be sure to check operating times for specific attractions when you arrive. But here’s a special tip for viewing “World of Color” in a new way. Remember in my previous “Viewing Tips” post, we talked about catching “Magical” fireworks spectacular from an attraction? Try the same thing with “World of Color” from Goofy’s Sky School. It’s quite an experience learning how to fly with Goofy as the night sky is filled with every color of the rainbow.
Okay, now it’s your turn. What are your “World of Color” viewing tips? Leave them in the comments!
After the sun sets at Disney California Adventure park, the night is filled with “World of Color” – the spectacular show of light, fire, color and water … lots of water. I have photographed “World of Color” numerous times and always enjoy it as much as the first time. I selected this first photo because of the reflection of Mickey’s Fun Wheel; I thought it was a little different than most of the other photos I’ve taken of the show.
I chose the two photos below because I love abstract photography, and I feel they fit into the category pretty well.
If you have not seen “World of Color,” you really should. If you haven’t photographed it, do so and let your imagination run wild. You may be surprised at the results.
