Olaf, voiced by film, television and stage actor Josh Gad, is the friendliest snowman to walk the mountains above the kingdom of Arendelle. He is innocent, outgoing, likes warm hugs and has the ability to disassemble himself at will.
Come see Olaf for yourself in “World of Color – Winter Dreams,” at Disney California Adventure park, November 15 – January 6, and in Disney “Frozen,” in theaters November 27.
The final holiday touches are being added to the brand-new “World of Color – Winter Dreams” at Disney California Adventure park. Each night as the creative team works, we see just how special this show is going to be. It really is filled with all the wonder, happiness and warmth the holidays bring.
A very special treat in “World of Color – Winter Dreams” is Olaf, the cute little snowman from the new Disney Feature Animated film, “Frozen.” He is our childlike, loveable host of the show. With Olaf, we skate off into a wintery world where we encounter many spectacular surprises.
So join us for “World of Color – Winter Dreams,” opening November 15! It is going to be one amazing sleigh ride of a celebration.
To put together a show like “World of Color – Winter Dreams,” it takes an army, or in our case “Green Army Men”! For this new, full-length original show we have enlisted the help of our friends from PIXAR Animation Studios. We went to them with a wild idea: what if “Toy Story” characters decided to perform Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker”?
In the original ballet, Clara’s Christmas tree grows and the audience shrinks to this size of a toy beneath the tree. This became our inspiration. The “World of Color” technology was perfect for this effect, because we can make the tree grow in front of your eyes. Then, below the tree is where the magic really happens. Beneath the tree we find Woody, the show’s director. Over the summer he has put together the toys’ version of the ballet. Of course, they have their own special spin on it. Each musical piece we used – Miniature Overture, Trepak (Russian Dance), Tea (Chinese Dance) and Waltz of the Flowers – took on a life of its own. We gave them all special arrangements to match the characters; for instance, the Trepak dance became western to fit Woody and Jessie’s duet.
Another great example of putting a new spin on the classic is Tea (Chinese Dance). We took our inspiration from Walt Disney’s “Fantasia” and the Mushroom scene. We replaced the Mushrooms with Little Green Men and the baby Mushroom with Rex in at tutu. The result is pure magic!
It’s wonderful when we can synergize and partner with great artists like PIXAR and let everyone’s creative energy flow together into the idea. It grows and grows like Clara’s Christmas tree, becoming an exciting new work of art with each pass. And in the end, our audiences get to see the magic that great partnerships can make.
Disneyland Resort fans have already submitted their holiday cards to be included in “World of Color – Winter Dreams” at Disney California Adventure park, and now it’s time to lend your voices! We’re teaming up with GRAMMY®-winning composer Eric Whitacre to produce “Glow,” a new song written especially for the new holiday show, opening November 15. The piece will be performed by the “World of Color” Honor Choir, inspired by Eric Whitacre’s virtual choirs, with hundreds of voices joined by technology. All you need is a computer, webcam, Internet connection and your voice!
Here’s how it works: Sign up here, learn your part, record your audition video and submit it. Selected submissions by U.S. residents age 18 or older will be joined together to form the “World of Color” Honor Choir.
We invite new as well as experienced singers, who are U.S. residents age 18 or older, to participate in the creation of beautiful music to be performed as part of this new nighttime spectacular. And if you’re new to online choral performances, don’t worry. Mark your calendars because “World of Color – Winter Dreams” will begin November 15, 2013, at Disney California Adventure park.
In celebration of the three-year anniversary of “World of Color” this month, I wanted to try out the slow-motion camera and have the crew tape some highlights from the ever-changing show. Nothing compares to seeing this spectacular in person; however, the video below gives a glimpse of the show from a whole new, multi-colored perspective.

Can you believe that “World of Color” premiered three years ago this month at Disney California Adventure park? Time surely does fly on a carousel of color! One of my personal Disneyland Resort favorites, “World of Color” features more than 1,000 water jets that bring Paradise Pier to life in a dazzling spectacle of color and light. “World of Color” regulars know that the show is a bit different from other nighttime spectaculars at the Disneyland Resort; it features a unique viewing process. So today I’m here to offer you some of the best ways to enjoy this spectacular spectacular – feel free to leave your own tips in the comments.
Disney’s FASTPASS Service – Plan ahead to reserve a spot inside Paradise Park at Disney California Adventure park to watch “World of Color.” Passes are available on a first-come, first-served basis outside Grizzly River Run in the Golden State area of the park. Remember that every member of your party must enter Disney California Adventure park and present their tickets at the kiosk to receive a FASTPASS. Bonus tip: Guests staying at Disneyland Resort Hotels can take advantage of Extra Magic Hour on select days, during which time you may enter Disney California Adventure park one hour before it opens to guests. Take advantage of this extra time by picking up your “World of Color” FASTPASS!
“World of Color” Dining – Not a morning person? Love great food? This is the option for you. In addition to enjoying a delicious meal, you also get access to a reserved viewing area in Paradise Park to enjoy “World of Color”! Make your reservation ahead of time by calling 714-781-DINE to enjoy lunch or dinner at Wine Country Trattoria or Carthay Circle Restaurant, or dinner at Ariel’s Grotto on select nights throughout the summer, followed by reserved viewing for “World of Color.”
“Glow With the Show” Ears – Looking for a way to become part of “World of Color” yourself? Pick up a pair of “Glow With the Show” Ears at merchandise locations throughout the Disneyland Resort. These special ears interact with the show itself, flashing and changing colors in response to the various scenes. And be sure to keep your “Glow With the Show” Ears after the show, because they also interact with many other shows and areas in Disneyland and Disney California Adventure parks.
Paradise Pier – Keep in mind that several attractions at Paradise Pier close during the show. Be sure to check operating times for specific attractions when you arrive. But here’s a special tip for viewing “World of Color” in a new way. Remember in my previous “Viewing Tips” post, we talked about catching “Magical” fireworks spectacular from an attraction? Try the same thing with “World of Color” from Goofy’s Sky School. It’s quite an experience learning how to fly with Goofy as the night sky is filled with every color of the rainbow.
Okay, now it’s your turn. What are your “World of Color” viewing tips? Leave them in the comments!
After the sun sets at Disney California Adventure park, the night is filled with “World of Color” – the spectacular show of light, fire, color and water … lots of water. I have photographed “World of Color” numerous times and always enjoy it as much as the first time. I selected this first photo because of the reflection of Mickey’s Fun Wheel; I thought it was a little different than most of the other photos I’ve taken of the show.
I chose the two photos below because I love abstract photography, and I feel they fit into the category pretty well.
If you have not seen “World of Color,” you really should. If you haven’t photographed it, do so and let your imagination run wild. You may be surprised at the results.
