Christmas Parades at Disneyland Park: A Look Back

The first parade at Disneyland debuted in 1958 and it was called “Christmas in Many Lands Parade.” The name changed in 1961 to “Parade of Toys and Parade of all Nations,” but then switched back to “Christmas in Many Lands Parade” until 1964. The following year it became “Fantasy on Parade” and that was a name that finally stuck for several years. In the 1980’s the park debuted a new paraded called “A Very Merry Christmas Parade” and finally in the mid 1990’s “A Christmas Fantasy Parade” made its way down Main Street U.S.A. Take look at this historical video and enjoy a look back.

  • Nice trip down memory lane 🙂

  • I was a cast member for “Fantasy On Parade” in 1966 and 1967. Thanks for the great memories! I love how guests were pulled into the action by the characters in the early days. Interactive fun is always best!

  • OMG, I love, love, LOVE “looking back” at photos and video of Disneyland!!! Thank you for this site and give us MORE looks back!

  • I love Christmas Parade! I saw it last year after Christmas!, is just Wonderful!!

  • We visited Disneyland a week ago and experienced our first holiday parade at the park – loved it! Thanks for posting this; it’s neat to see how things have changed/stayed the same over the years.

  • Its interesting to see how the parade has changed over the years, and how much they have in common. No matter what the parade, or the year, its always the merriest place on earth. From the park decorations, to the cast members, who are always filled with the holiday spirit, to the beauty of the lights and the music. Thanks to everyone who makes everyday at the park such a special place!

  • Merry-Sherry from San Jose, this video is so amazing I felt like I was sitting on Main Street enjoying the music and fun. It was so fun to see the marching soldiers,I love to watch them pass by. Tomorrow morning my family and I will be heading down to visit Disneyland for our 5th visit in 2009, we love our Annual passes and we can’t wait to see everything decked out for the Holidays. Thank you Disneyland, for allowing everyone to feel like a kid when we visit the Happiest Place on Earth, even through a Christmast Parade video!

  • Loved looking back at that video at the Christmas Parade over the decades. Amazing how they kept things so similar all this time. Something comforting about maintaining tradition and yet Disney also knows the balance of inserting some fresh elements to keep it new, too. We were just there in November for my daughter’s 4th b-day and loved the holiday parade this year, as always. Thanks, Disney, for keeping the magic going year after year.

  • You never really notice how much you miss something until you are unable to do so. Due to an injury at work this year I was unable to work the extra shifts it took to be able to take our family to Disneyland this Christmas season. But we do recall all the ones we have been able to attend over the years. Always a sensational time. The parades, the sounds and sights, the cast members and rides.
Thank you so much for the years of joy and wonder you have given to my family and myself!

  • The most wonderful place on earth. My 7 year old daughter and I were just there 12/21/09 celebrating her birthday and we had a great time. Looking forward to taking her back in the summer. She was excited to see the Parade.
