Disneyland Park to Honor Writers of ‘it’s a small world’

We’ve all heard it and we’ve all sung it and that’s what makes “it’s a small world” one of the most translated and performed songs on Earth. Richard and Robert Sherman are the talented brothers who wrote the famous tune that you can’t get out of your head. You’ve probably also heard their other wonderful pieces of work throughout Disneyland park – past and present: Enchanted Tiki Room, Carousel of Progress, Adventures Thru Innter Space, as well as a long list of Disney motion-picture musical scores and songs that includes “Mary Poppins,” “The Jungle Book,” “Bedknobs and Broomsticks,” “The Aristocats” and “Winnie the Pooh.” Next week the Sherman Brothers will be given one of the most prestigious honors that a Disney cast member can receive, a window on Main Street U.S.A. at Disneyland park. In the attached video, enjoy a look back at these talented brothers singing with Walt Disney himself.

  • I’ve heard the window will be @ the music store on Main Street; very appropriate, and the ceremony will take place before park opening on March 11.

  • I was able to meet Richard Sherman at The Newport Beach Film Festival.I also bought the Sherman Brothers CD of all of their songs at D23 Expo. When will the DVD of their movie come out? When will the window ceremony take place at Disneyland? Will it feature their songs or just speeches?

  • It’s about time! Thank you for a lifetime of unforgettable music 😀

  • They’re so wonderful! It’s high time! Congratulations, Sherman Brothers! 🙂

  • When and where is the ceremony?!?!??!?!

  • Wonderful news.

What a great way to honor them. 🙂

  • I saw the Sherman Brothers’ documentary, and it nearly broke my heart. I wish these two could come together as brothers once more. I would love to attend the ceremony – please post details.

  • I absolutely LOVE the Sherman Brothers. I love their songs, and I never tire of them. I have their book Walt’s Time, and the CD of their best-loved Disney tunes. I have the old 45 rpm record of this song “There’s A Great Big, Beautiful Tomorrow”, and I will forever miss the Carousel Of Progress at Disneyland! I enjoyed seeing this clip VERY much. Thank you.

  • I had the pleasure of meeting Richard Sherman at Disneyland for the 50th Anniversary Kick-off party. He was very nice and even posed for a photo with me. He and His Brother are so talented and have touched so many people with their music! I even love how they have “apologized” for It’s a Small World! 🙂

  • Is there any chance that Richard and/or Robert Sherman will be making an appearance in the park this coming week for the event? If so, what day and time?

  • There is an error in this post. The attraction was named “Adventure Thru Inner Space”, not Adventures Through Space.

  • Holy cow! Had no idea. We grew up with those movies/songs/attractions. Our 5 year old daughter now enjoys them as well.

  • Congratulations to the Sherman brothers for receiving an honor well deserved.

  • I can’t thank the Sherman brothers and Walt Disney enough!! We now have our 4 year old granddaughter singing all these wonderful Disney songs, following in the footsteps of her mother!! Quite a joy! And we’re bringing her to Disneyland for her first time in May, soon after her 5th birthday! We’ll definitely look for the special window then!!

  • They’ve certainly earned it. This is wonderful news!

  • How WoNdErFuL!!! Congratulations to the Sherman brothers!!! Your gift of music brings MaNy a HaPpY memory to our home!!!

ps…We went through “Small World” 5 times (1 for each decade of my birthday in November :]) and LoVed EVERY beautiful moment and the additions!!! Next time we travel down from WA. we will look for your window :-]

  • This is awesome! I saw Richard Sherman this past Saturday at El Capitan theater. It was great. They definitely deserve it!

  • Congrats to them both! I wish I could attend. (If it’s on Monday, I could!)

  • How I wish we had more visionaries like Walt Disney who were optimistic about the future and what it would bring. We seem to be ringed round by people who are convinced that our future is bound to be filled with death and dystopia. Stop it! Disney’s world of the future is our world of today, and it is indeed filled with marvels and wonders–some of which he envisioned, much of which ran beyond even his ability to imagine.

Tomorrow can always be better, and it will be better, but only if we choose to make it so.

  • When is the ceremony??? 🙂
    I’d love to go watch!
