Fantasyland Expansion
A quick update…Walt Disney Parks and Resorts has officially broken ground for what will be the largest expansion in the history of Magic Kingdom Theme Park – Fantasyland.

Just look at the images from the 1/4 inch dimensional model… it’ll be remarkable when completed. There will be four Disney classic-inspired areas or neighborhoods to explore. And one of the most unique offerings in those neighborhoods will be new interactive Storybook adventures with your favorite Disney princesses.

And parents take note…Dumbo the Flying Elephant, a beloved MK Attraction, will take center stage on its own new mini land with the addition of a second attraction. You’ll be invited to take part in a series of interactive experiences inside an air-conditioned three-ring circus tent. Of course, there’s much more to the expansion, but we wanted to share news of the groundbreaking with you first. Check the blog for future updates.

The expansion project is scheduled to be completed in 2013.

  • I echo the same feelings of all those families with boys. I have two teenage sons who sadly already told me they don’t want to go back to Disney (after going two years in a row). I love Disney and can go every year but Disney shouldn’t forget about our boys! Next year will be Hawaii for us, but I’m definitely going back to Disney in 2012 for my 50th (hopefully with my sons). Is the expansion expected to be completed in 2012 or 2013?

  • We are planning a trip in Nov. or Dec. this year. Can you tell me if the whole Fantasyland section will be closed OR just one or two rides? Our main purpose for going is for our 7 year old special needs son to ride those particular rides.

  • I hope Mickey’s & Minnie’s houses will be included somewhere. They do not appear to be on the areas shown from what I can tell. My daughter is 7. She loves the princesses, but the first thing we have to do when we come is go see Mickey and Minnie. She would be very upset, and I would assume many others would be too judging from the long lines going in and out of both houses. Feel free to expand the charm, but please don’t destroy any that has already been created.
    Thanks

  • So how do we find out about park closures? We will be in Disney World this December and I have 2 little ones ages 3 and 6 that LOVE Magic Kingdom. And the Dumbo ride is there Favorite. It’s the first ride my daughter wants to go on when we return. Please any info about closures would be helpful!!!! Thanks!

  • I have this great idea for a ride that would be perfect in the new fantasyland and would in turn give Snow white a cottage. If I wanted to mail in my idea, do you know exactly who I would mail it to? I really want my idea to be heard or at least send it out so I know that I didn’t just let it go. I have told many people and even created drawings, which both have been enthusiastically applauded. I just don’t know who to send it to.

  • Very cool! Can’t wait to see the finished product in 2012 when we go again!!!
