The ‘Characters’ of Main Street, U.S.A. – ‘Have Regard for Hildegard!’

Miss Hildegard Olivia Harding
Miss Hildegard Olivia Harding is a socialite and suffragette, President of the Main Street Social Society, Women’s Auxiliary and Decorating Committee, and works diligently with the women, educating them on Women’s Rights (as her friend Taby says “Those who don’t believe in Women’s Rights should watch out for Women’s Lefts.”).

Hildegard’s finger is in every pie, especially chocolate. “One can never have enough chocolate!” Miss Harding owns the Emporium and has an apartment upstairs where she throws lavish functions, often serving her specialty- calamari scones…hmmmmm…
Miss Hildegard Olivia Harding
Hildegard romps right down the middle of Main Street, U.S.A., proclaiming “Have regard for Hildegard! Hear my voice or else I’ll keep talking.” History could never have been this much fun…

  • I wish Disneyland’s Main Street USA had “streetmosphere characters” like this, but alas, all we have is the piano player and the Main Street Band.

  • Thanks, Gene. I have absolutely LOVED this series on the blog! From the time the park opens with it’s welcome show at the train station, Main Street, USA becomes alive. The “streetmo,” the performers on the trolley, the Main Street Philharmonic, and the Barbershop Quartet all make this one of my favorite areas of the Magic Kingdom. It makes me feel like I’ve stepped into a classic portion of Disney like I would have seen had I been to Disneyland in the 50s. I’m not quite sure that it actually WAS what Disneyland was like, but it’s how I imagine it to have been!

    • Thanks Alison- It has been a pleasure working with all of them.

  • Miss Hildegard is AMAZING! From the time my wife and I met her on our honeymoon in 2005, she remembers us each time we visit the Magic Kingdom – by name! We usually visit during September, and in 2009 when we decided to visit in December, her first words to us were, “When you didn’t show up in September, I was afraid something had happened to you!” One of the finest examples of Disney Magic. Now can we have a story on Miss Victoria?

    • Sergio- Miss Victoria was the very first “character” featured in this series. Click on my name at the top and scroll back to see all of them. And yes, they are ALL amazing…..

  • Thanks, Gene!

I don’t know HOW I missed it! Miss Victoria is my favorite! Keep up the good work – I really enjoy your posts.
