Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa

You might know that the design for Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa was inspired by the late 1800s and early 1900s Arts and Crafts Movement, but you might not have known that the movement has been incorporated into the tiniest details at the hotel.

You can get an insider’s look at Disney’s integration of the Arts & Crafts Movement in the hotel décor by taking the Art of the Craft Tour at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. To sign up for this complimentary tour, visit the Guest Services desk at the hotel. The tour is available Sundays, Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays at 1 p.m. Reservations are recommended for the 15 available spots. If space is available, walk-ups are accepted.

Some highlights of the tour are included in today’s video. Take a look and let us know what you find most interesting.

  • We enjoyed our stay in 2009….fantastic place…and the character breakfast was out of this world…we are now passholders and go thru the hotel every now and then…it is so beautiful…thank you for the video clip Heather …very interesting

  • beautiful hotel and we’re very much looking forward to a stay in December – if the tours were given earlier or later in the day, it would be easier to participate – at 1pm, we’re likely to be in 1 of the parks!

  • Very nice video. I never knew of the hidden mickey in that painting, however my favroite is the one in the clock of the lobby. I love the Grand Californian and would love to go on this tour. Is it open to the public or would I have to be a guest of the hotel? Thank you for sharing.

    • Yes, the tour is open to the public. You do not need to be a guest of the hotel.

  • Stayed here last year, and loved every minute of it!!!

  • It’s a shame that video doesn’t show off the lobby–the most impressive feature of the entire hotel.

  • Heather,
From the photo, it appears that the carpet that got burned up in the fire has been replaced with another that is similar to the original. I am glad to see that has been done as it made the grand lobby a truly magical room. The last time I was there it was over a year after the fire and the plain replacement carpet was still in place. Doubt I will ever be able to take another trip to one of my favorite places again, but happy that others will get to see the room as it should be…
