A Look Back: November 24, 1955, Mickey Mouse Club Circus Debuts

Our media library houses some rare historical footage. It is priceless documentation. I love it! And from your previous comments, I know many of you love it, too, so I try to blog about historical moments at Disneyland park whenever I can. November 24 marks the 55th anniversary of the premiere of “Mickey Mouse Club Circus” in Fantasyland. This show starred some of the original Mousketeers and Jimmie Dodd. Do you remember it? As much as the Mousketeers were loved, this show had only a six-week run and closed on January 8, 1956. Fortunately, someone back then actually captured the show on film, and we dug it up for you to watch. Enjoy!

  • wow. that would have been awesome to see! I’m from the re-run generation and watched the MMC in the 70’s. I did catch the 2nd MMC Mousekateers at Disneyland though!

  • We visited Disneyland at least twice a year after it opened. Myself and my children have had a wonderful childhood because of this special park. I don’t remember the circus act, but it was a long time ago. I am a Disney-kid, through and through !!! Thanks for the memories !

  • so, is this a movie or a collection of stills? when I try to view it is looks like a series of still pictures. Is anyone else having issues seeing it as a movie?

  • My mother’s childhood friend and her family were circus performers in the Disneyland Circus. My first trip to Disneyland included a back scenes tour of the circus. I was only 4 years old but remember it well. I don’t think many people realize that there was a circus in the beginning of the park. That video brought back many great memories of visiting the park in those very early days.

  • Thank you, Valarie. I love Disney nostalgic videos.

  • Fantastic footage! I knew about the Mickey Mouse Club Circus but had never seen footage or even photos of it. Thank you!

  • @ mark from NY: All I see is a series of stills as well. 🙁

  • I think we need a new Walt Disney Treasures Blu-Ray/Dvd combo pack with tons of this rare footage! Please Disney, us baby boomers have stuck by your side for over 50 years now, so reward us with something so cool! Sure, it may not sell millions of copies like a title like “cars” would, but it would sure send a message of “Thank You” to us all.

BRING BACK THE “Walt Disney Treasures” SERIES!!

  • I agree with Wayne!

  • Very cool! Thanks for sharing!
