In November we held the judging for the 2011 class of Disney’s Dreamers Academy, with Steve Harvey and Essence Magazine. Each year, comedian, actor and bestselling author, Steve Harvey and his wife Marjorie host the judging at their home in Atlanta. We received over 4,000 applications this year and the team had to narrow it down to 100 lucky students. Those students, now called Disney’s Dreamers, are whisked to Walt Disney World Resort for an immersive 4-day program that we hope inspires and fuels their dreams and helps them to dream even bigger! The students participate in career workshops, mentoring, inspirational sessions, networking, special entertainment and of course they have some fun and pixie dust in our theme parks.
Noted celebrities again helped the Harvey’s with the nomination process. New to the judging panel were gospel superstar Yolanda Adams, Dr. Steve Perry, principal and founder of Capitol Preparatory Magnet School, Angela Burt-Murray, former editor-in-chief of Essence Magazine, and author and blogger Lorraine Sanabria Robertson.
Walt Disney World Resort representatives included Tracey Walters-Powell, executive champion for Disney’s Dreamers Academy and Carole Munroe, director of the Walt Disney World Resort News Bureau.
